Abstract
Ground improvement techniques are inevitable for weak soils that cannot endure the design load imposed by superstructures. Deep mixing technique (DMT) as one of these methods is promising and effective when a deep soil layer with low bearing capacity is encountered. Such deposits are quite common in the South-west of Iran where the studied site is located. In order to validate the influence of DMT on the enhancement of strength, both in-situ and laboratory tests were conducted. Afterwards, a parametric study was carried out to investigate the influence of key factors including cement content, water–cement ratio, curing time and plasticity index (PI) on the performance of DMT. In summary, a...

Abstract
In this study, Glucoamylase production by Aspergillus niger was investigated under solid state fermentation using low cost by-products of agricultural processes as substrate. Highest enzyme production was observed when a combination of wheat bran (WB) and corn flour (CF) was used as compared to WB+ rice bran, WB+ rice flour and WB alone. Several compositions of corn flours were experimented. The best combination of WB in addition of 10% corn flour resulted maximum enzyme activities. Study of the fermentations in flasks revealed 373.3 IU/gds and 41.4 g/l for the enzyme activity and protein concentration respectively under conditions of 30± 1°C, pH 4.7 and time 96 h. Optimum conditions...

Abstract
Ground-state pluripotency is a cell state in which pluripotency is established and maintained through efficient repression of endogenous differentiation pathways. Self-renewal and pluripotency of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are influenced by ESC-associated microRNAs (miRNAs). Here, we provide a comprehensive assessment of the “miRNome” of ESCs cultured under conditions favoring ground-state pluripotency. We found that ground-state ESCs express a distinct set of miRNAs compared with ESCs grown in serum. Interestingly, most “ground-state miRNAs” are encoded by an imprinted region on chromosome 12 within the Dlk1-Dio3 locus. Functional analysis revealed that ground-state miRNAs embedded in the...

Abstract
To efficiently enhance the contrast obtaining from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), pharmaceutical grade colloidal dispersions of PEG coated iron-based nanoparticles were prepared and compared to conventional pure iron oxide contrast agent. In this study, we synthesized ∼14 nm iron nanoparticles via NaBH4 reduction of iron(III) chloride in an aqueous medium. The resulting nanoparticles were further oxidized by two different methods via (CH3)3NO oxygen transferring agent and exposure to oxygen flow. XRD and electron microscopy analyses confirmed the formation of a second layer on the surface of α-Fe core. As magnetic measurements and Mössbauer spectra of 4-months post prepared nanoparticles...

Abstract
In the present study, a one step hydrothermal process was employed to synthesize magnetite nanoparticles using oleic acid as surfactant agent at 140 °C. Effects of reaction time and alkalinity were studied on particles size and morphology. By changing these parameters, some monodisperse spherical nanoparticles with mean particle size between 2.71 and 13.88 nm were synthesized and characterized via TEM, XRD, VSM, TGA and FT-IR techniques. Assuming the Avrami behavior of particles formation, a kinetics equation was proposed for the transformation rate at 140 °C. Using some simplifying assumptions, nucleation and growth rates were calculated for the hydrothermal formation of magnetite...

Abstract
Two-dimensional semiconductor materials can be combined with conventional silicon-based technology and sort out part of the future challenges in semiconductor technologies due to their novel electrical and optical properties. Here, we exploit the optoelectronics property of the silicon/SnS2 heterojunction and present a new class of backward diodes using a straightforward fabrication method. The results indicate an efficient device with fast photoresponse time (5-10 μs), high photoresponsivity (3740 AW-1), and high quantum efficiency (490%). We discuss device behavior by considering the band-to-band tunneling model and band bending characteristics of the heterostructure. This device structure...

Abstract
In this article, the buckling behavior of a nanoplate at the bottom of the channel over which the fluid passes with a one-dimensional flow was investigated. Navier–Stokes equations were used to obtain the applied force from the fluid to the nanoplate. Nonlocal elasticity theory was used to consider nanoscale effects, and this problem was solved using Galerkin’s weighted residual method. In previous research, the buckling behavior of nanoplates was done with the assumption of buckling in a vacuum, but in this study, the environment around the nanoplate is assumed to be a flowing viscous fluid. According to the results presented in this study, the critical buckling load of nanoplates coupled...

Abstract
In this study, the effects of the type and content of reactive diluents on the permeation/separation of carbon dioxide/nitrogen (CO2/N2) through acrylate-terminated polyurethane (APU)-acrylate/acrylic diluent (APUA) composite membranes was investigated. A series of APUs based on poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-1000 g mol−1, toluene diisocyanate, and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate was synthesized and then diluted with several reactive diluents. The results obtained from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared analyses showed that the microphase interference of hard and soft segments increased with increasing reactive diluent content. Furthermore, with increasing alkene...

Abstract
Geothermal energy is one of the most important sources of energy that is increasingly becoming more popular all over the world. In this study, the performance of deep geothermal energy as a form of geothermal energy was evaluated using a numerical modeling approach. To do so, first, the thermo-hydraulic behavior of geothermal reservoirs was studied to help achieve the most efficient arrangement for production and injection wells. The results show that to optimize production and injection wells, there are two factors to consider. Firstly, the distance between production and injection wells must be high. Secondly, the production wells must be uniformly distributed throughout the reservoir so...

Abstract
IN738LC is one of the superior nickel base superalloys utilized at high temperatures in aggressive environments. However, experiencing high temperatures and stresses during service causes microstructure deterioration and degradation of mechanical properties in this alloy. To restore the microstructure and mechanical properties of the degraded alloy, rejuvenation heat treatments can be considered. In this study, the evolution of microstructural features in a creep damaged IN738LC superalloy during different stages of rejuvenation heat treatment cycles was investigated. During solution treatment stage, dissolution of coarsened γ′ precipitates, grain boundary films and transition zone around...

Abstract
The present study investigates the evolution of γ′ precipitate microstructure in a creep damaged IN738LC superalloy during different stages of rejuvenation heat treatment cycles. Dissolution of coarsened γ′ precipitates in the creep damaged alloy occurred during different solution treatments. The precipitates that did not dissolve completely during solution treatment and those formed during subsequent cooling were considered to be as remnant and cooling precipitates respectively. It was found that higher solution treatment temperatures result in lower volume fraction of remnant precipitates and further formation of cooling precipitates. Slower cooling rates after solution treatment gave the...

Abstract
We theoretically study the quasi bound state of Dirac electrons in cylindrically symmetric quantum dots with sharp boundary. According to the existing picture, due to Klein tunneling "relativistic electrons" can not be localized by any confinement potential. We show however that despite of Klein tunneling, interference effects can cause the trapping of electron in quantum dots. Considering the quasi bound state as the state with complex energy, to find the energy of this state we solve the wave-equation with outgoing boundary condition at infinity. The imaginary part of complex energy determines the trapping time of electron within the quantum dot. We show that for any finite confining...

Abstract
In this research, a series of numerical simulations were conducted utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software in order to predict the heat transfer performance of queues nanofluids containing clove-treated graphene nanoplatelets (CGNPs) flowing in a horizontal stainless steel heated pipe. The GNPs were covalently functionalized with clove buds using free radical grafting reaction using an eco-friendly process. The advantage of this synthesis method was that it did not use hazardous acids, which are typically used in traditional treatment methods of carbon nanostructures. The thermo-physical properties of the aqueous nanofluids obtained experimentally were used as inputs for the...

Abstract
Superparamganetic iron oxide-based contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have offered new possibility for early detection of lymph nodes and their metastases. According to important role of nanoparticle size in biodistribution, magnetite nanoparticles coated with different polyethylene glycol (PEG) concentrations up to 10/1 PEG/iron oxide weight ratio in an ex situ manner. To predict the PEG-coated nanoparticle behavior in biological media, such as blood stream or tissue, colloidal stability evaluation was performed to estimate the coating endurance in different conditions. Accordingly, optical absorbance measurements were conducted in solutions with different values of pH and...
