Modeling Tsunami Wavesand Designinga Warning Systemfor This Phenomenon by UseofIT (Case Study the Sea of Oman)
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abbaspour Tehrani, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Tsunami, like many other natural disasters leaves people a short time for escape. When talking about Tsunami, the escape time is the period it takes for the wave to start moving from the epicenter, change into a giant wave gradually and reach to a cost. In order to minimize damages of this phenomenon, the escaped time has to be estimated without delay. For this purpose the first needed action is modeling the Tsunami waves. Analytical and numerical models and software that are designed based on them do exist. To have an efficient and rapid Tsunami alarming system all of these options are examined in this project. Then having a reliable model quite a few probable scenarios are propounded. The...

Numerical Modeling of Waves Generated by Tropical Cyclone and its Effects on Oman Sea
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Sea and ocean waves develop in various ways especially by blowing wind over them. Modeling of these waves has been in center of interest for half a century. After the pioneering study of Gelchi et al (1995), ocean wave models are generally base on a spectral energy or action balance equation. Ocean storms such as tropical cyclone will develop if the atmospheric and oceanic conditions are available. Their Rotational and transition movement causes different patterns of waves. In 2007, cyclone Gonu, a tropical cyclone that formed in Indian ocean and have steered to Oman Sea and also caused damages and casualties in southern coast of Iran. Since intense tropical cyclones such as Gonu have...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
With regards to rapid growth of world population, coastlines have limited natural resources and capacity for human settlement. To tackle the problem the idea of constructing artificial islands could be a solution. Since the artificial islands are semi-enclosed body of water designed to attract not only tourists but also settlements, the flow current pattern and residence time of water should be studied in detail in order to ensure adequate water quality in the surrounding area. In this study, an artificial island is planned to be constructed around Kish Island in Persia Gulf. In this article the effects of different geometries on circulation and residence time of water are investigated...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Many species in nature exist which human can reach the aims of flying and swimming by inspiring from them. Observations show that fish can use their especial undulating motions of body/fins to crusing, increase performance, suddenly acceleration, and maneuvering. To design a robot fish and benefit the characteristics and abilities of a live fish, using its real geometry and kinematics in the robot is vital. Therefore, simulations are essential to better exploiting the fish behavior, which can obtain useful consequences by using computational fluid dynamics. In this thesis, first the kinematics of sharks is investigated. Then, investigations are accomplished by utilizing an unsteady finite...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Given the great potential of energy resources, the utilization of wave energy for electricity production can make a significant contribution to the renewable energy portfolio of coastal nations. There are, however, many challenges that must be overcome in order for wave energy to be commercially viable. One of the key objectives of the wave energy industry today is to produce commercially viable wave farms by placing multiple wave energy converters (WECs) together in an array. The full problem of calculating the power absorbtion of an array of WECs requires not only the complete knowledge of the hydrodynamics of each individual body, but also the scattering and radiation effects between all...

Design of a hybrid Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion with Solar Thermal Energy (OTEC-STE) system for energy production(case study: Oman sea region)
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
The ocean thermal energy conversion system is one of a variety of renewable marine energy that is made up of a thermodynamic cycle, and it uses the difference between the temperature of hot water at the ocean surface and cold water at the depths of the ocean to generate electricity. The closed cycle is one type in which the system uses a working fluid which its boiling point less than the boiling point of water. Increasing the temperature of the fluid inlet in the cycle increases the system efficiency, which has been applied in this study to increase the efficiency of the OTEC system. The required energy to increase this temperature has been achieved by adding a solar collector to this...
Dynamic Simulation and Hydro-elastic Stability Analysis of Flexible Supercavitating Projectiles
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Dehghani Firouzabadi, Roohallah (Supervisor)
Abstract
At high speeds, cavitation bubbles form at the sharp edges of the submerged body or in situations where the pressure falls below the fluid vapor pressure. By placing a suitable cavitator in the nose of the body, the cavitation bubbles are cobined by increasing the speed and the whole body is placed inside the cavity. The formation of a supercavity leads to a significant reduction in the drag force of the vehicle. The submersible device is in contact with the fluid at two points, the cavitator and the fins, and due to the location of the cavitator in the nose of the body, the forces acting on it play an important role in the stability and control of the device. The main goal of current...

In this project, different methods to overcome the water level variations have been studied and finally, a creative idea which covers the weaknesses of previous ones has been represented. By using programming...
