    Optimization of Dynamic Performance of Gas Transmission Networks

    Abstract
    In this work, a non-isothermal model of natural gas in pipelines including mass, momentum and energy balance equations are used as model equations for modeling and state estimation in gas pipeline systems. An algorithm is proposed to handle the discontinuities that appear in the dynamic model of a GTN. The states of GTN are estimated using the continuous/discrete form of the extended Kalman filter for two benchmarks and some heuristic rules for sensor placement in a GTN are concluded.     In this paper, a framework for distributed and decentralized state estimation in high-pressure and long-distance gas transmission networks (GTNs) is proposed. The non-isothermal model of the plant including mass, momentum and energy balance equations are used to simulate the dynamic behavior. Due to several disadvantages of implementing a centralized Kalman filter for large-scale systems, the continuous/discrete form of extended Kalman filter for distributed and decentralized estimation (DDE) has been extended for these systems.     In natural gas transmission networks, the efficiency of daily operation is strongly dependent on our knowledge about the customer future demands. Unavailability of accurate demand forecasts makes it more important to be able to characterize the loads and quantify the corresponding uncertainty. A planning strategy for natural gas transmission networks under future demand uncertainty is addressed, which involves coupling of a gas transmission network dynamic simulator with the stochastic optimization framework. This micro-manipulator includes 3 micro-beams as links connected to one another with no conventional or flexural joints.     A problem associated with modeling and control of the power factor correction rectifiers is that the ac variations in duty cycle, as well as in the ac input voltage and current are not small, and hence the traditional small signal analysis is not justified. Nonetheless, the low-frequency components of the converter can be modeled via the circuit averaging technique, but the resulting equivalent circuits are, in general, time varying and highly nonlinear.     Abstract
    Synergistic coupled transport of uranyl ion across a bulk liquid membrane of chloroform has been investigated using a dioxa-diazamacrocycle and oleic acid as carrier and synergistic agents, respectively. Quantitative transport of uranyl ion was achieved within 4 h when the pH of source solution was kept at 5.0–6.0 and mole ratio of carrier to synergistic agent was 1/15. It was found that overall rate and selectivity of the transport is governed by the stripping step.     The current paper presents a two degree of freedom model for the problem of micromirrors under capillary force. The principal of minimum potential energy is employed for finding the equilibrium equations governing the deflection and the rotation of the micromirror. Then, using the implicit function theorem, a coupled bending-torsion model is presented for pull-in characteristics of micromirrors under capillary force and the concept of instability mode is introduced.     The current paper deals with the problem of static instability of Micro/Nano mirrors under the combined effect of capillary force and van der Waals force. First the governing equations of the statical behavior of Micro/Nano mirrors under the combined effect of capillary force and casimir force is obtained using the newtons first law of motion.     Abstract
    In this study, an accurate analytical solution for Duffing equations with cubic and quintic nonlinearities is obtained using the Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM) and Homotopy Pade technique. Novel and accurate analytical solutions for the frequency and displacement are derived. Comparison between the obtained results and numerical solutions shows that only the first order approximation of the Homotopy Pade technique leads to accurate solution with a maximum relative error less than 0.4%. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd.
