Equilibrium isotherms for CO, CO2, CH4 and C2H4 on the 5A molecular sieve by a simple volumetric apparatus

    , Article Separation and Purification Technology ; Volume 28, Issue 1 , 2002 , Pages 53-60 ; 13835866 (ISSN) Pakseresht, S ; Kazemeini, M ; Akbarnejad, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2002
    Abstract
Adsorption equilibrium data for CO, CO2, CH4 and C2H4 on 5A molecular sieve were obtained at (303, 373 and 573) K and at partial pressures up to 1000 kPa. An accurate and simple volumetric apparatus was used to measure gas sorption. The Langmuir and Sips equations were used to correlate the experimental data. In spite of the relative simplicity of both isotherms, the correlation between experimental and theoretical data is good. The Sips equation with three parameters has expected a better fit than the Langmuir isotherm with two parameters. Based upon the Langmuir equation the enthalpy of adsorption and pre-exponential factor in the van't Hoff correlation were derived for all four gases. ©...

An experimentally determined configuration for Simulated Moving Beds as a separative-reactor in gas phase

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 9, Issue 1 , 2002 , Pages 74-85 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Pakseresht, S ; Kazemeini, M ; Akbarnejad, M. M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
One of the most attractive features of Simulated Moving Beds (SMBs) is their ability to perform reaction and separation simultaneously in order to increase reaction yields. In this paper, an appropriate configuration for the operation of such systems in gas phase has been presented and to improve the separation efficiency, Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) is also employed. Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis (FTS) has been chosen to verify this idea. After preparing the catalyst, choosing appropriate adsorbent and constructing the necessary experimental set up, experiments have been performed to achieve maximum yield of desired products (i.e., ethylene and ethane). Effective variables, such as flow...

    Abstract
Multi-label classification with a large set of labels is a challenging task. Label-Space Dimension Reduction (LSDR) is the most popular approach that addresses this problem. LSDR methods project the high-dimensional label vectors onto a low-dimensional space that can be predicted from the feature space. Many LSDR methods assume that the training data provide complete label vector for all training samples while this assumption is usually violated particularly when label vectors are high dimensional. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic model that has an effective mechanism to handle missing and noisy labels. In the proposed Bayesian network model, a set of auxiliary random variables,...

    Abstract
Multi-label classification has received considerable interest in recent years. Multi-label classifiers usually need to address many issues including: handling large-scale datasets with many instances and a large set of labels, compensating missing label assignments in the training set, considering correlations between labels, as well as exploiting unlabeled data to improve prediction performance. To tackle datasets with a large set of labels, embedding-based methods represent the label assignments in a low dimensional space. Many state-of-the-art embedding-based methods use a linear dimensionality reduction to map the label assignments to a low-dimensional space. However, by doing so, these...

    Abstract
The bale packings that are used as catalyst containing packings in reactive distillation columns are made and geometrically characterized. Pressure drop and holdup values are measured in a 10.4 cm i.d. glass column packed with bales using an air/water system. The arrangement of the bales in the bed is similar to that of industrial columns. The obtained data are used for evaluating the Stichlmair and the Eckert pressure drop models. Neither of these two models could fit the data properly. When a slight modification is made in the Eckert model, a specific model which fits the data well is prepared. This model also accounts for the effect of geometrical characteristics of the packed bed on...

    Abstract
In this work successful synthesis of multiwall carbon nanotube (CNT) using solution combustion and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) methods are reported. Ceramic nanocomposite samples of (Al 2-xFe xO 3)-(y)ZrO 2 formula with x = 0.017, 0.034 and 0.17 and y = 0.15 were initially prepared. These were then subjected to CVD process during which the in situ reduction of iron oxide to metallic iron (Fe/Fe 3C) phase/s provided the necessary catalyst for the CNT formation. The formation of long flexible filaments with a smooth and regular surface bridging between alumina-zirconia (AZ) grains could be detected. The diameters of the formed filaments were in the range of ∼70 to ∼320 nm and length of the...

    Abstract
SnO2 is considered as one of the high specific capacity anode materials for Lithium-ion batteries. However, the low electrical conductivity of SnO2 limits its applications. This manuscript reports a simple and efficient approach for the synthesis of Sb-doped SnO2 nanowires (NWs) core and carbon shell structure which effectively enhances the electrical conductivity and electrochemical performance of SnO2 nanostructures. Sb doping was performed during the vapor-liquid-solid synthesis of SnO2 NWs in a horizontal furnace. Subsequently, carbon nanolayer was coated on the NWs using the DC Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition approach. The carbon-coated shell improves the Solid-Electrolyte...

    Probabilistic Approach for Multi-label Classification

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini Akbarnejad, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Soleymani, Mahdie (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In machine learning, classification is of great importance. Unlike the traditional single-label classification in which one instance can have only one label, in multi-label classification tasks, an instance can be associated with a set of labels. Multi-label classifiers have to address many problems including: considering correlations between labels, handling large-scale datasets with many instances and a large set of labels, and having only a fraction of valid label assignments in the training set. To tackle datasets with a large set of labels, recently embedding-based methods have been proposed which seek to represent the label assignments in an intermediate space. Subsequently, given the...

Structural, magnetic, and optical properties of zinc-and copper-substituted nickel ferrite nanocrystals

    Abstract
Ferrite nanocrystals are an interesting material due to their rich physical properties. Here we add nonmagnetic dopants Zn and Cu to nickel ferrite nanocrystals, Ni1-xMxFe2O4 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1, M = Cu, Zn), and study how relevant properties of the samples are modified accordingly. Basically, these dopings cause a rearrangement of Fe +3 ions into the two preexisting octahedral and tetrahedral sites. In fact, this, we show, induces pertinent magnetic properties of the doped samples. In the case of the Cu-doping, the Jahn-Teller effect also emerges, which we identify through the Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy of the samples. Moreover, we show an increase in the lattice parameters of the...

    Abstract
We analyze an experiment in which two distinct superconducting phases YBa2Cu3O7-δ (Y123) and Y 3Ba5Cu8O18-δ (Y358) coexisted. This experiment enabled us to characterize the recently introduced Y358 phase in contrast to the Y123 phase, thus to resolve some discrepancies reported in associated properties of Y358. Specifically, our experiment indicates the transition temperature Tmid C = 105 K and 94 K for Y358 and Y123, respectively, and that Y358 has five CuO2 planes and three CuO chains, with Pmm2 symmetry and lattice parameter (a, b, c) = (3.845, 3.894, 31.093) Å, in agreement with density functional theory predictions for this specific structure

    Abstract
We prepared three ferrite nanocatalysts: (i) copper ferrite (CuFe 2O4) (ii) ferrite where cobalt was substituted by nickel (Nix Co1-x Fe2O4, with x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6), and (iii) ferrite where nickel was substituted by zinc (Zn y Ni1-y Fe2O4 with y=1, 0.7, 0.5, 0.3), by the sol-gel method. The X-ray diffraction patterns show that the ferrite samples have been crystallized in the cubic spinel structural phase. We obtained the size of grains by field emission scanning electron microscopy images and their magnetic properties by vibrating sample magnetometer. Next, carbon nanotubes were grown on these nanocatalysts by the catalytic chemical vapor deposition method. We show that the catalytic...

    Abstract
Using multiple antennas at the transmit and receive sides of a passive radar brings both the benefits of MIMO radar and passive radar. However one of the obstacles arisen in such configuration is the receive antennas placement in proper positions so that the radar performance is improved. Here we just consider the case of positioning one receiver among multiple illuminators of opportunity. Indeed it is a start for the solution of optimizing the geometry of the multiple receivers in a passive radar

    Abstract
In this paper, we consider an integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system with wireless power transfer (WPT) where an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based radar serves a group of energy-limited communication users in addition to its sensing functionality. In this architecture, the radar senses the environment in phase 1 (namely sensing phase) and mean-while, the communications users (nodes) harvest and store the energy from the radar transmit signal. The stored energy is then used for information transmission from the nodes to UAV in phase 2, i.e., uplink phase. Performance of the radar system depends on the transmit signal as well as the receive filter; the energy of the transmit...

    Abstract
One of the important obstacles in MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) radars is the issue of designing proper transmit signals. Indeed, the capability of signal design is a significant advantage in MIMO radars, through which, the system can achieve much better performance. Many different aspects of this performance improvement have been considered yet, and the transmit signals have been designed to attain such goal, e.g., getting higher SNR or better detector's performance at the receiver. However, an important tool for evaluating the radar's performance is its ambiguity function. In this paper, we consider the problem of transmit signal design, in order to optimize the ambiguity function...

    Detection-localization tradeoff in MIMO radars

    Abstract
Two gains play key roles in recently developed MIMO wireless communication systems: "spatial diversity" gain and "spatial multiplexing" gain. The diversity gain refers to the capability to decrease the error rate of the MIMO channel, while the multiplexing gain implicitly refers to the amount of increase in the capacity of the MIMO channel. It has been shown that there is a fundamental tradeoff between these two types of gains, meaning interplay between increasing reliability (via an increase in the diversity gain) and increasing data rate (via an increase in the multiplexing gain). On the other hand, recently, MIMO radars have attracted much attention for their superior ability to enhance...

Antenna placement and power allocation optimization in MIMO detection

    Abstract
It is a well known fact that using multiple antennas at transmit and receive sides improves the detection performance. However, in such multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration, proper positioning of transmitters and receivers is a big challenge that can have significant influence on the performance of the overall system. In addition, determining the power of each transmitter under a total power constraint is a problem that should be solved in order to enhance the performance and coverage of such a system. In this paper, we design the Neyman-Pearson detector under the Rayleigh scatter model and use it to introduce a criterion for the antenna placement at both transmit and receive...

Ambiguity function of MIMO radar with widely separated antennas

    Abstract
There has been much interest, recently, towards exploiting the Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technique in radar. It is shown that using multiple antennas at transmit and receive sides can improve the performance of the system. However, in order to analyze the system's performance, its ambiguity function, i.e. the ambiguity function of a MIMO radar, is needed to be defined. In this paper, beginning from the information theoretic definitions, we derive such function, specifically for a MIMO radar with widely separated antennas

    Abstract
By combining the two ideas of MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) and PCL (Passive Coherent Location) in radar, one can achieve the advantages of both recently developed techniques simultaneously. While using multiple antennas at the receive side provides a spatial diversity of the object to be detected, using multiple illuminators of opportunity, most importantly, makes the radar covert to the interceptors. One obstacle in such MIMO configuration is choosing the positions of the receive antennas. In this paper, after analyzing the Neyman-Pearson detector for the DVB-T based PCL, we introduce the probability of missed detection as a criterion to place the receive antenna. Here, we only...
