    Abstract
The application of electropulsing treatment (EPT) is studied on the microstructure and hardness of cold-rolled low carbon steel. The effects of electrical pulses on the grain refinement, precipitate size evolution and hardness are investigated. It is found that applying electrical pulse decreases the grain and precipitate size and increases the hardness in the early stages of electropulsing, but the grain and precipitate size is increased and the hardness is decreased by continuing electropulsing. Also, the effect of electropulsing treatment variables as well as treated time and number of periods are discussed. It is demonstrated that increasing treated time can accelerate achieving maximum...

    Abstract
In this article a new technique for the dynamic response of structures is investigated. This applied procedure can predict the approximate seismic performance of the structures and it is fast, inexpensive and results are reasonably acceptable. In fact, this novel method logically combines two different techniques, 'incremental dynamic analysis (IDA)' and 'modal pushover analysis (MPA)', presented by other researchers. This method will take advantage of both methodical ideas such as equivalent single degree of freedom of multi-degree structures and the implementation of different scaled level of an earthquake record to the provided equivalent SDF structure. Using this procedure, simple...

    Abstract
Three-dimensional porous scaffolds are essential in tissue engineering applications. One of the most conventional methods to form porosity in scaffolds is freeze-drying, which is not energy efficient and cost effective. Therefore in this work, it was experimentally investigated whether gelatin, with its unique mechanical properties and cell binding applications, could be used as a comprising polymer of scaffolds with porous structure made by the freeze-gelation method. Chitosan, gelatin and chitosan/gelatin scaffolds were fabricated by the freeze-gelation method and their behaviors, determined by analysis of scanning electron microscopy images, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,...

    Abstract
Abstract: Using adhesively bonded composite patch repairs has been increased in various industries to improve the structural integrity of cracked metallic structures in recent decades. Monitoring of crack propagation and composite patch debonding, as two dominant failure mechanisms in this repair technique, plays a significant role in the integrity assessment of the component. This research conducts an experimental investigation on the simultaneous monitoring of these two failure mechanisms in a cracked metallic specimen repaired by a composite patch. For this purpose, the electromechanical impedance method was used to evaluate the feasibility of recognizing the type of damage at any phase...

    Abstract
The effects of geometrical scaling on a supersonic external compression axisymmetric inlet are investigated. Various lower and higher geometrical scales of supersonic inlet are considered as the case studies. The inlet flow is simulated numerically using RANS solver along with the SST k-w turbulence model. The numerical results are in an acceptable agreement with the NACA experimental data at free stream Mach number of 1.79 and at zero angle of attack. The results show that the static pressure distribution of the inlet flow experiences some differences for various scales especially at the regions of the flow entrance and throat area. The mean flow Mach number and the mass flow rate at the...

    Abstract
Since ultraviolet (UV) irradiation cannot be applied for a long time in practical applications, it is necessary to develop a narrow band gap photocatalyst to decompose environmental pollutants under visible irradiation. In this research, (WO3)x-(TiO2)1-x nano-porous layers were fabricated by micro arc oxidation (MAO) and influence of the electrical current type on their physical and chemical properties was investigated. Morphological studies, performed by SEM technique, revealed that pore size and roughness decreased with the frequency and increased with the duty cycle. The pulse-grown layers had a finer structure when compared to those fabricated under direct current. XRD and XPS results...

    Abstract
In this study, a novel, simple and sensitive ratiometric fluorescence method is presented for the detection of very low quantities of the carbaryl in Iranian apple using cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs) nanoprobe. The principle of the proposed strategy relies on the rapid hydrolysis of the carbaryl under an alkaline condition and production of the 1-naphthol with a blue emission at 470 nm. Besides, using the CdTe QDs with a yellow emission at 580 nm, as a reference, improves the visual tracking of carbaryl through changes in color tonality. The herein described methodology is applied for enzyme-free visual detection of carbaryl with satisfactory results in the presence of other...

    Abstract
Teeth segmentation in computed tomography (CT) images is a major and challenging task for various computer assisted procedures. In this paper, we introduced a hybrid method for quantification of teeth in CT volumetric dataset inspired by our previous experiences and anatomical knowledge of teeth and jaws. In this regard, we propose a novel segmentation technique using an adaptive thresholding, morphological operations, panoramic re-sampling and variational level set algorithm. The proposed method consists of several steps as follows: first, we determine the operation region in CT slices. Second, the bony tissues are separated from other tissues by utilizing an adaptive thresholding technique...

    Abstract
In this paper, we study the problem of secret communication over a Compound Multiple Access Channel (MAC). In this channel, we assume that one of the transmitted messages is confidential that is only decoded by its corresponding receiver and kept secret from the other receiver. For this proposed setting (compound MAC with confidential messages), we derive general inner and outer bounds on the secrecy capacity region. Also, as examples, we investigate 'Less noisy' and 'Gaussian' versions of this channel, and extend the results of the discrete memoryless version to these cases. Moreover, providing numerical examples for the Gaussian case, we illustrate the comparison between achievable rate...

    Abstract
Micro arc oxidation technique, as a facile and efficient process, was employed to grow sulfur doped titania porous layers. This research sheds light on the photocatalytic performance of the micro arc oxidized S-TiO2 nano-porous layers fabricated under pulse current. Morphological and topographical studies, performed by SEM and AFM techniques, revealed that increasing the frequency and/or decreasing the duty cycle resulted in formation of finer pores and smoother surfaces. XRD and XPS results showed that the layers consisted of anatase and rutile phases whose fraction was observed to change depending on the synthesis conditions. The highest anatase relative content was obtained at the...

    Abstract
The authors study the problem of secret communication over a multiple-access channel with a common message. Here, the authors assume that two transmitters have confidential messages, which must be kept secret from the wiretapper (the second receiver), and both of them have access to a common message which can be decoded by the two receivers. The authors call this setting as multiple-access wiretap channel with common message (MAWC-CM). For this setting, the authors derive general inner and outer bounds on the secrecy capacity region for the discrete memoryless case and show that these bounds meet each other for a special case called the switch channel. As well, for a Gaussian version of...
