    Abstract
In most applications of antenna arrays, side lobe levels (SLLs) are commonly unwanted. Especially, the first side lobe level which determines maximum SLL is the main source of electromagnetic interference (EMI), and hence, it should be lowered. A procedure of finding the optimum side lobe-minimizing weights for an arbitrary linear equally spaced array is derived, which holds for any scan direction, beam width, and type of antenna element used. In this science article, the use of convolution procedure and the time scaling property reduces the side lobe level for any type of linear equally spaced array. Results show that by this procedure, the side lobe level is reduced about two times or even...

    , Article 2017 25th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2017, 2 May 2017 through 4 May 2017 ; 2017 , Pages 1820-1824 ; 9781509059638 (ISBN) Boozari, M ; Bayderkhani, R ; Alijani, M. G ; Neshati, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
In this paper a closed-form expression is introduced to calculate slot shape of long slot leaky wave waveguide antennas at its fundamental mode of operation with minimum side lobe level (SLL). The derived equation is a function of geometrical parameters of the structure. This is an advantage because they show a clear relationship between geometrical parameters of the antenna and radiated field that allows intelligent modification of the pattern. The Gaussian slot is used to obtain the best radiation pattern with lowest SLL. The results obtained by introduced formula are compared with the full wave commercial simulator such as HFSS software which confirms the accuracy of the introduced...

    Abstract
The highly viscous property of heavy oil often causes problems in its transportation in pipelines. Mixing heavy oil with light oil as well as ultrasound treatment are viable solutions to this problem. In this study, extra heavy crude oil samples were first diluted with 0, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.15 mL/mL (0, 5, 10, and 15 vol%) of a light crude oil; then the mixture was irradiated by ultrasonic waves for 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 min; finally the viscous shear functions of all mixtures was measured at different values of shear rate at different temperature levels. The results revealed that the minimum viscosity of the diluted extra heavy crude oil samples was obtained at 10 min of ultrasonic...

Determination of Response Modification Factor for Steel Frames with Saddle (Khorjini) Connections and RC Shear Walls on the Basis of FEMA P695 Rationale

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mive, Reza (Author) ; Alijani Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Steel structure with saddle connections constitutes a portion of the old steel structures in Iran. During past strong ground motions such as Manjil and Bam earthquakes, these structures were vulnerable and experienced significant damages. These structures were widely used due to their easy installation. However, according to their unpromising behavior, they need an appropriate lateral force-resisting system. A concrete shear wall is one of the suitable lateral force resisting systems that can improve the behavior of steel frames with saddle connections. To find the coefficients of seismic performance factors including response modification factor, overstrength factor, and deflection...

Investigation of Local Buckling and Prediction of Fracture Onset in Hollow Section Steel Beams

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Danapour, Milad (Author) ; Alijani Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the behavior of cantilevered HSS beams under cyclic bending loading are modeled in order to study the buckling and post buckling behavior have been investigated by Finite Element method. The analytical results are fairly in good agreement with the experimental results. The analysis demonstrates that when local buckling occurs in near of connection area, subsequently, the strain grows severely that is entitled as strain rise and then, is caused fracture. As a result, local buckling limits the ability of these members to form stable plastic hinges and the behavior is highly dependent on the width-thickness (b/t) and the depth-thickness ratio (h/t).Also, the thesis has been tried...

Providing Design Spectrum for Iran Based on the New Generation of Ground Motion Model

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hajipour, Alireza (Author) ; Alijani Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to the inelasticity of the ground and geometric expansion, seismic waves are reduced by moving away from the center of wave propagation, which is called the attenuation of seismic waves. Therefore, the ground motions that occur at the site of the structures are different from the ground motions that are emitted from the source. The upcoming study investigates the attenuation of seismic waves in the geographical area of Iran based on the accelerogram data of Iran. Considering the consecutive occurrence of moderate to large earthquakes in Iran, the development of Iran's accelerography network, and the need to update the attenuation relationships by considering the parameters effective in...

Evaluation the Accuracy of Seismic Force and Equivalent Static Procedure Fit from Nonlinear Dynamic Behavior Perspective

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Pourmohammadi, Mohammad Fazel (Author) ; Alijani Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Since 1906, after the earthquake of Messina in Italy, Italian engineers start developing a new method for increasing the resistance of a structure during an earthquake. With the limitation of time and technology, this method was acceptable for the time period. By developing the accelerographs and seismographs and the methods to process big data, new methods are developed and are being used in designing structures; new technologies allow engineers to analyze the performance of structures with ease. The studies in this research indicates that achieving the safety indices in any design require utilizing all dynamic properties of a structure such as period, stiffness and damping. In this...

Providing Smooth Design Spectra for Iran by Modifying the Newmark Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sanagar Darbani, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Alijani Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Many regulations around the world use the Newmark method, directly or indirectly, in the design spectrum. Research on the Newmark design spectrum shows that this spectrum sometimes significantly differs from the earthquakes response spectra that have occurred; therefore, it is necessary to develop and introduce new design spectra by modifying the Newmark method to be more compatible with reality. The developed design spectra in seismic regulations around the world are directly affected by the records involved in their development. Thus, the appropriate design spectrum should be prepared based on the seismic characteristics of the faults of each country. Evaluation of the Iranian Seismic...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Alijani, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Haddadpour, Hasan (Supervisor) ; Shakhesi, Saeed (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the key issues in the operations of on orbit servicing to unmanned satellites is to provide a safe and reliable docking process. In this thesis, the dynamic behavior of a flexible probe in the central docking mechanism of unmanned satellites is investigated. For this purpose, first a dynamic analysis software has been applied to build a three dimensional model with the assumption of flexible clamped beam as a shock absorber, finally, the impact phenomone is simulated. therefore, in addition to solving a three-dimensional problem and studying the impact phenomenon between chaser and target satellite, it is possible to consider the parameters such as the type of connection between the...

We study the problem of fair division of a heterogeneous resource among strategic players. Given a divisible heterogeneous cake, we wish to divide the cake among n players to meet these conditions: (I) every player (weakly) prefers his allocated cake to any other player’s share (such notion is known as envy-freeness), (II) the allocation is dominant strategy-proof (truthful) (III) the number of cuts made on the cake is small. We provide methods for dividing the cake under different assumptions on the valuation functions of the players. First, we suppose that the valuation function of every player is a single interval with a special property, namely ordering property. For this case, we...

    Abstract
Four 5-, 10-, 20- and 30-story moment frames, representing low-, mid-, and two high-rise structures, were subjected to a great number of idealized directivity pulses. The amplitudes and periods of pulses vary from 0.02 g to 1.0 g and 0.5 to 12 sec, respectively. Over 1400 nonlinear dynamic analyses of low- to high-rise moment frames were performed which were feasible through using modified fish-bone model. The distribution of interstory drift along the height was studied and two applied contours were proposed: (i) the maximum interstory drift contour, and (ii) the critical story contour. These contours were demonstrated versus the ratio of natural period of the structure to the pulse period...
