Intelligent Anomaly-Based Intrusion Detection in Linux Kernel
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Azmi, Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The growth of intelligent attacks has prompted the designers to envision the intrusion detection as a built-in process in operating systems. This thesis investigates a novel anomaly-based intrusion detection mechanism which utilizes the manner of interactions between users and kernel processes to bring functionality to this notion. In fact, this mechanism is inspired by homeostatic behavior of an organism. Homeostatic is the property of an open system or a closed system, particularly a living organism, which regulates its internal environment to maintain a stable, constant condition. Such a developed mechanism can provide the computer system with a high level of protection from artificial...
Core-scale Mechanistic Simulation of Engineered Salinity Waterflooding Using Bond-Product-Sum Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahani, Hassan (Supervisor)
Abstract
Considering the world's diminishing oil reserves, as well as the growing demand for oil and energy consumption, Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques are becoming increasingly important in the attempt to improve oil production. Engineering salinity waterflooding has gained widespread attention and popularity in the last two decades due to its environmental friendliness, lack of expensive additives, low operating costs, and ease of use as an oil extraction process. The goal of this study is to use an innovative method to develop a mechanistic approach model that simulates and forecasts the mechanism and performance of the engineered water flooding process. Wettability alteration, the most...
Analysis of The Middle Ear in Sound Transmission
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The ossicular chain of the human middle ear has a key role in sound conduction since it transfers vibrations from the tympanic membrane to the cochlea, connecting the outer and the inner part of the hearing organ. This study reports firstly a description of the main anatomical features of the middle ear to introduce a detailed survey of its biomechanics, focused on model development, with a collection of geometric, inertial and mechanical/material parameters. The joint issues are particularly discussed from the perspective of developing a model of the middle ear both explanatory and predictive. Such a survey underlines the remarkable dispersion of ...
Does the short-term boost of renewable energies guarantee their stable long-term growth? Assessment of the dynamics of feed-in tariff policy

Abstract
Feed-in tariff (FiT) is one of the most efficient ways that many governments throughout the world use to stimulate investment in renewable energies (REs) technology. For governments, financial management of the policy could be challenging as it needs a considerable amount of budget to support RE producers during the long remuneration period. In this paper, it has been illuminated that the early growth of REs capacity could be a temporary boost. And the socio-economic structure of the system will backlash the policy if some social mechanisms are not considered. Social tolerance for paying REs tax and potential investors’ trust emanated from budget-related mechanisms -which have rarely been...
