Modeling and Control of Line Waves on Metasurfaces

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Hadi (Author) ; Khavasi, Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis examines a new electromagnetic mode called line mode. This mode occurs when the boundaries have complementary surface impedances. It is possible to control the mode confinement by changing the surface impedance values. Impedance surfaces with non-complementary impedances guides the quasi-line mode, which is a mode between the line mode and the edge mode. Essential features of the line wave are its singularity over the line, its broad bandwidth, and its robustness to certain defects. Another significant characteristic of a line wave is that unlike surface waves in which it is not possible to change the spin orientation, in a line wave, the spin orientation can be altered by...

Globular structure of M2 high speed steel by thermomechanical treatment in the semisolid state

    , Article Steel Research International ; Volume 81, Issue 5 , May , 2010 , Pages 381-386 ; 16113683 (ISSN) Amin Ahmadi, B ; Aashuri, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
The globular structure of M2 high speed steel in the rolled - annealed and as cast conditions was investigated in the semisolid state. Metallographic observations resulted in globular austenite particles that were surrounded by a liquid phase. Dissolution of various carbides in the austenite phase at semisolid temperatures led to grain boundary liquation and formation of near-spherical solid grains in a liquid matrix. Therefore, at the semisolid state, the solid particles were free from carbides. MC-type and M6C-type eutectic carbides re-precipitated at the grain boundaries during cooling of the samples from the semisolid temperature. The variation of shape factor versus holding time and...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadi, Ali (Author) ; Safarian, Amin Ghasem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The telecommunication manhole is a place that the cables of the telephone network are located on it. line Inside these manholes, there are equipment and cables for telephone. The number of these places is many, so protection and maintenance of the manholes have been problematic in case of theft of the cap, equipment inside them and flooding. Also, lack of inspection officers and the high cost of repairing and replacing parts inside them, has made it difficult for telecom companies to handle these problems. The only way to connect the manhole is a telephone line inside them. Also, there is no proper electrical power inside the manhole, so the design and implementation of a system that...

    Abstract
Pore facies analysis plays an important role in the classification of reservoir rocks and reservoir simulation studies. The current study proposes a two-step approach for pore facies characterization in the carbonate reservoirs with an example from the Kangan and Dalan formations in the South Pars gas field. In the first step, pore facieswere determined based on Mercury Injection Capillary Pressure (MICP) data in corporation with the Hierarchical Clustering Analysis (HCA) method. Each pore facies represents a specific type of pore geometry indicating the interaction between the primary rock fabric and its diagenetic overprints. In the next step, polynomial meta-models were established based...

Design of an Efficient High Bandwidth Supply Modulator

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hamidizadeh, Ali (Author) ; Safarian, Amin Ghasem (Supervisor) ; Fotowat Ahmadi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Efficient radio frequency (RF) power amplifiers (PAs) are critical in portable battery-operated wireless communication systems because they can dominate the power consumption. Linear amplifiers are enough linear but suffer from poor efficiency. On the other hand, switching power amplifier are efficient but are nonlinear and just amplify constant envelope signals. Two conventional methods for increasing transmitter efficiency and linearity are envelope elimination and restoration (EER) and envelope tracking (ET). In both methods, supply modulator controls RF power amplifier supply based on the signal envelope. Efficiency and bandwidth are critical factors in supply modulator. Thus hybrid...

Effect of Mold Hardness on Microstructure and Contraction Porosity in Ductile Cast Iron

    , Article Journal of Iron and Steel Research International ; Volume 18, Issue 4 , 2011 , Pages 44-47+67 ; 1006706X (ISSN) Khalil Allafi, J ; Amin Ahmadi, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The effect of mold hardness on the microstructure of ductile iron and the contraction porosity was investigated. Molds with different hardnesses (0.41, 0.48, 0.55, 0.62 MPa) and a sand mold prepared by Co2 method were used. The influence of silicon content on the induced expansion pressure owing to the formation of graphite was also investigated. The contraction during solidification can be compensated by an induced expansion owing to the graphite relief when the hardness of mold increases; therefore, the possibility of achieving a sound product without using any riser increases

In these simulations, the flow was assumed to be steady and the effect of turbulence...

Experimental and numerical approach to enlargement of performance of primary settling tanks

    , Article Journal of Applied Fluid Mechanics ; Volume 2, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 1-12 ; 17353572 (ISSN) Razmi, A ; Firoozabadi, B ; Ahmadi, G ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Circulation regions always exist in settling tanks. These regions would result in short-circuiting enlargement of the dead zone and high flow mixing problems and avoid optimal particle sedimentation. Therefore, the main objective of the tank design process is to avoid formation of the circulation zone, which is known as dead zone. Experiments show that the tank performance can be improved by altering the geometry of the tank which leads to a different velocity distributions and flow patterns. In this paper, the presence of a baffle and its effect on the hydrodynamics of the flow field has been investigated in a primary settling tank. Hydrodynamics of the flow field in these basins is...

In the present research work the binary NiTi alloys with various compositions in the range of 50.3-51 at.% Ni were used. Samples have been annealed at 850 °C for 15 min and then quenched in water. In order to characterize transformation temperatures and enthalpy changes of the forward and the reverse martensitic transformation, Differential Scanning Calorimetric (DSC) experiments were performed. The enthalpy and entropy changes as a function of Ni atomic content have been thermodynamically investigated. Results show that enthalpy and entropy changes of martensitic transformation decrease when Ni atomic content increases. The variation of enthalpy and entropy of martensitic transformation...

System and Circuit Design for High Performance Wireless Power and Data Transfer for Biomedical Implants

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Razavi Haeri, Ali Asghar (Author) ; Fotowat Ahmadi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Ghasem Safarian, Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wireless Power and Data Transfer (WPDT) is a major part of a biomedical implant system. Maximiazing the Power Transfer Efficiency (PTE) and maximizing the data rate are the main challenges in WPDT. In a conventional biomedical implant system, a single inductive link is used to transfer both power and data from outside the body to inside. Data is transmitted by modulating one of the carrier signal properties, i.e., amplitude, frequency or phase. While being simple and robust, this method suffers from the fundamental trade-off between the PTE and data rate. To address this issue, various methods have been proposed including multiple carriers and multiple inductive links, and inductive link...

New and simple equations for ultimate bearing capacity of strip footings on two-layered clays: Numerical study

    , Article International Journal of Geomechanics ; Volume 16, Issue 4 , 2016 ; 15323641 (ISSN) Danaei Ahmadi, M. M ; Mofarraj Kouchaki, B ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, two very simple and accurate equations are introduced that enable geotechnical engineers to determine the undrained ultimate bearing capacity of shallow strip foundations resting on two-layered clays. Results of the analyses show that in the case of weak-overstrong clay, usually general shear failure occurs, and in the case of strong-over-weak clay, the soil will most likely experience punching failure with a large amount of plastic settlement before it reaches its ultimate bearing capacity. This study applied the finite-difference method using a computer program to evaluate the undrained bearing capacity for all cases analyzed. The Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion was used for...

    Abstract
Some fundamental and unique characteristics of space are (1) global perspective, (2) above the atmosphere, (3) gravity-free environment, (4) abundant resources, and (5) exploration of space itself. If the mission doesn't rely on some fundamental and unique characteristics of space, it will likely cost more to do in space than in air or on Earth [1]. On the other hand, design of complex systems like satellites involves selecting design parameters (DPs) to satisfy the required constraints while meeting desired performance objectives. These parameters are often coupled, and their relationships not easily understood, and it makes the design an iterative process with high complexity [2]. But in...
