Introducing a Simulation-Based Model to Improve the Design and Layout of Workstations Inside Airport Terminals in Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amini Esfidvajani, Amin Mohammad (Author) ; Alvanchi, Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The airport terminal is difficult to plan and design due to the different components and the intricate complexity of its parts. At the airport terminal, we face a queue system which simulation is always a good way to analyze. In addition, computer simulation using modern softwares with the capability to model different types of systems, including the airport terminal, while being less realistic than analytical models, is less costly than operational Exercise. In this study, a supportive approach for better and specific management of Iranian airport terminal buildings with discrete-event simulation is proposed, considering the need for managing the airport terminals building in the country and...

Defining a Correlation Measure for Random Variables Derived from SSP

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Charusaie, Mohammad-Amin (Author) ; Amini, Arash (Supervisor) ; Aminzadeh-Gohari, Amin (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Studying the statistical dependence of two or several random variables is the basis of statistical estimation and prediction. The correlation measures such as mutual information, Pearson correlation, and maximal correlation are common tools in quantifying the extent to which two random variables are dependent. While such measures are highly informative and computationally simple for jointly Gaussian random variables, it is not the case for general random variables. Infinitely divisible random variables are typical examples that are characterized in the Fourier domain (characteristic functions are known); except for a few special cases, no closed-form expressions are available for the...

Non-Relativistic Conformal Symmetries; Infinite Extensions and Logarithmic Representation

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Hosseiny Esfidvajani, Ali (Author) ; Rouhani, Shahin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
We study different aspects of non-relativistic conformal symmetries. Schrodinger and Galilean Conformal Algebra (GCA) are reviewed extensively. We as well study possible extensions of non-relativistic conformal symmetries. We find a new class of infinite dimensional non-relativistic conformal symmetries in 2+1. We study logarithmic representation of Schrodinger symmetry. As well we utilize contraction approach and obtain both ordinary and logarithmic representations of GCA. Finally we investigate some aspects of logarithmic GCA in the context of holography principle

Evaluating the Rate of Compressibility of Sparse Stochastic Processes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghourchian, Hamid (Author) ; Amini, Arash (Supervisor) ; Aminzadeh Gohari, Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In most stochastic models with uncountable cardinality of sample space with non-trivial probability measures, the inherent information is infinite. The continuous-valued random variables and continuous-domain random processes are among such objects. Therefore, a fidelity criterion must be defined between the stochastic subject and its estimated version. Although there are some criteria for of stochastic continuous signals, based on quantizing the signal in both time and amplitude domains, we are going to define a criterion which is for stochastic processes in bounded time domain. Next, the criterion will be expressed in general sources perspective and the optimum rate of coding will be...

A Real-Time and Energy-Efficient Decision Making Framework for Computation Offloading in Iot

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Heydarian, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Fazli, Mohammad Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Based on fog computing paradigm, new applications have become feasible through the use of hardware capabilities of smart phones. Many of these applications require a vast amount of computing and real-time execution should be guaranteed. Based on fog computing, in order to solve these problems in is necessary to offload heavy computing to servers with adequate hardware capabilities. On the other side, the offloading process causes time overhead and endangers the real-timeliness of the application. Also, because of the limited battery capacity of the handheld devices, energy consumption is very important and should be minimized. The usual proposed solution for this problem is to refactor the...

Robust Control of Multiple Integrator Systems Subjected to External Disturbance and Bounded Control

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amini, Samad (Author) ; Haeri, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis is concerned with the robust control of multiple integrator systems, subjected to input saturation and external disturbance. Since nested saturation method has been demonstrated to be an effective tool for control of a chain of integrators, a feedback law using nested saturation is proposed. In order to deal with disturbance, an extended state observer is applied to nested saturation controller and a comprehensive analysis of stability is also presented. The existence of constant parameters in the proposed controller makes the design conservative which results in performance degradation in some cases at the presence of disturbance. To overcome this issue, an adaptive approach...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahrivari, Farzad (Author) ; Amini, Arash (Supervisor) ; Aminzadeh Gohari, Amin (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Let X be an unknown vector of size n which is to be estimated from a known m 1 vector Y. According to the MMSE criterion, the best estimator (denoted bX(Y)) is an estimator which minimizes the mean squared error. Now, consider a List Decodingproblem in which the sender delivers a list of codes instead of a single decoder. Assume that it is allowed to use multiple parallel estimators (bX1 (Y); ^X2(Y); : : : ; bX k(Y)) instead of delivering a single estimation of samples. The goal is to find the best possible list of estimators, in a way that the mean squared error is optimized between the multiple bX i(Y); (i = 1; 2; : : : ; k). As a medical example, imagine a MRI device which produces three...

    Representation Learning for Dynamic Graphs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Loghmani, Erfan (Author) ; Fazli, Mohammad Amin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Representation learning methods on graphs have enabled using machine learning methods on graphs' discrete structure by transferring them to a continuous domain. As graphs' structures are not always static and may evolve through time, dynamic representation learning methods have recently gained scholars' attention. Several methods have been proposed to enable the model to update the embeddings graph changes, or new interactions happen between nodes. These online methods could significantly reduce the learning time by refreshing the model as the changes occur, so we don't need to retrain the model with the complete graph information. Moreover, by using the temporal information of interactions,...
