Abstract
This study was focused on the heavy metal (Ni, Co, Mo, V, Mn, Fe, W and Zn) tolerance of fungi strains Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus foetidus and Penicillium simplicissimum. Aspergillus niger was exposed to a mixture of Mo, V and Mn at a mass ratio of 1:2:6 as approximately present in the spent refinery processing catalyst. This study highlights the adaptation of fungi strains to Tungsten and Vanadium to high concentration. The effect of different metals and metal concentration on different strains of fungi was evaluated. Results showed that Ni was one of the most toxic metals for strains of Aspergillus and Penicillium. Abstract
In this paper, a Lagrangian-extended finite-element (FE) method is presented in modeling large-plasticity deformations and contact problems. The technique is used to model arbitrary interfaces in two-dimensional (2D)/three-dimensional (3D) large deformations. The material interfaces are represented independent of the FE mesh and the process is accomplished by integrating enriched elements with a larger number of Gauss points, whose positions are fixed in the element. Abstract
In this paper, the extended finite element method is presented for large elasto-plastic deformation in 3D solid mechanics problems. The discontinuity between two bodies is modeled by using the X-FEM technique and applying a modified level set enrichment function. In order to simulate the nonlinear behavior of materials, the Lagrangian plasticity formulation is coupled with the X-FEM technique. Abstract
This study focused on the tolerance of fungi strains including Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus foetidus and Penicillium for different metals (Ni, Co, Mo, V, Mn, Mg, Fe, W and Zn ). Then Aspergillus niger was exposed to mixture of Mo, V and Mn (at a mass ratio of 1:2:6 as approximately present in the spent refinery processing catalyst). The degree of tolerance was measured from the growth rate in the presence of various metals and compared to a control which contained no metals. In this paper, a new computational technique is presented for the modeling of moving boundaries in large plastic deformations based on an enriched arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian finite element method. An Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) technique is employed to capture the advantages of both Lagrangian and Eulerian methods and alleviate the drawbacks of mesh distortion in Lagrangian formulation. In this paper, the extended finite element method is employed to model discontinuities caused by frictional contact. The method is used in modeling discontinuity within a standard finite element framework. In XFEM technique, the special functions are included in standard FE method to simulate discontinuity without considering the boundary conditions in meshing the domain. In this paper, a three-invariant cap plasticity model with an isotropic hardening rule is presented for numerical simulation of powder compaction processes. A general form is developed for single-cap plasticity which can be compared with some common double-surface plasticity models proposed for powders in literature. This deposit consists of gravely sand to sandy gravel with some cobbles and is dominantly cemented by carbonaceous materials.
