Experimental and Theoritical Study of Thermo-acoustic Effect in Carbon Nanotubes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asadzadeh, Saeed (Author) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Carbon Nanotube webs exhibit interesting properties when used as thermo-acoustic projectors. This work studies thermo-acoustic phenomena of these sound sources both in near and far field regions. Our three-dimensional simulation and experimental data show pressure waves are highly affected by dimensions of sound sources in near field due to interference effects. Although pressure amplitude increases with increasing frequencies, maximum pressure amplitude reached in lower frequencies may become larger than its maximum amount at higher frequencies because of interference effects. Measurement of different surface area sources shows generation of sound waves in far field is independent of...

    Abstract
In most places in the world as it is in our country, structural vibration caused by earthquakes are among the most destructive menaces for the building. For this reason one of the main goals for civil engineers is constructing structures that can perform properly in an earthquake-exposed situation. For moving toward this goal it is necessary to estimate structural responses considering probable earthquake excitation and use these data for design of new structures or retrofitting of existing ones. In this research, the capability of a new method named Endurance Time analysis in seismic assessment of concrete moment frame is investigated in nonlinear range. ET is a new dynamic time history...

    Abstract
Preventing critical damages to structures and hence saving the lives and money is an inevitable work which a designer has to do. During the earthquake, huge amount of energy applies to the structure and finding a way to reduce transfer of this energy to main structure is crucial. For this purpose, Structural Control systems may be used. Metallic Dampers are one of those systems which absorb the earthquake input energy by having nonlinear deformations. In this Thesis, one type of this dampers which is innovated by Estekanchi, have been studied .Indeed, this damper is a connection between bracing and main frame. In this damper a U shape part acts as a sacrificing portion and absorbs energy by...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haghani Baei, Ali (Author) ; Esmaeil Purestekanchi, Homayoun (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance and seismic costs for pre-designed bridges according to the Iranian Bridge Code, which maps and details are available in Code 294. In order to evaluate performance, seismic costs of a structures are determined over its life cycle and these costs are compared eventually. Seismic costs are divided into two parts of the initial cost and life cycle cost of the structure. The initial costs depend on the cost of constructing the bridge, but life cycle costs are depends on seismic damage for structure and its users over the useful life of the bridge. These damages include the cost of maintenance of the bridge over its useful life and the...

Numerical simulation of drag reduction in microgrooved substrates using lattice-boltzmann method

    , Article Journal of Fluids Engineering, Transactions of the ASME ; Volume 141, Issue 7 , 2019 ; 00982202 (ISSN) Asadzadeh, H ; Moosavi, A ; Etemadi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)  2019
    Abstract
We study drag reduction of a uniform flow over a flat surface due to a series of rectangular microgrooves created on the surface. The results reveal that making grooves on the surface usually leads to the generation of secondary vortices inside the grooves that, in turn, decreases the friction drag force and increases the pressure drag force. By increasing the thickness of the grooves to the thickness of the obstacle, the pressure drag increases due to the enhancement of the generated vortices and the occurrence of separation phenomenon and the friction drag reduces due to a decrease of the velocity gradient on the surface. In addition, by increasing the grooves depth ratio, the pressure...

The effect of chitosan and PEG polymers on stabilization of GF-17 structure: A molecular dynamics study

    , Article Carbohydrate Polymers ; Volume 237 , 2020 Asadzadeh, H ; Moosavi, A ; Arghavani Hadi, J ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
We examine the interactions of chitosan and polyethylene glycol (PEG) with antimicrobial peptide GF-17 to identify a suitable carrier to improve the peptide drug delivery systems. To this end, the molecular dynamics simulations are used to determine the interactions of a typical antimicrobial peptide GF-17 with the chitosan and PEG polymers. The findings indicate the great potential of the peptide to maintain its secondary structure in the adjacent to chitosan polymers. During the interaction with chitosan polymers, the structure of the peptide has smaller fluctuations compared to the PEG polymers. Also, in the presence of both the polymers, the PEG polymers are situated closer to the...

    Abstract
Reconfigurability in software has many advantages such as updating, bug fixing and adding new services. Dynamic reconfiguration is more useful for mission critical systems that need to change in run time. Reconfiguration of a system in network may result to reconfiguring its dependent systems, which we call reconfiguration propagation. In this paper, we present a model for reconfiguration propagation for systems in a network

Numerical Study of Anisotropic Ferrimagnetic Chain and Ladder with Density Matrix Renormalization Group Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asadzadeh, Mohammad Zhian (Author) ; Langari, Abdollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
According to Haldane Conjecture Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Spin Chain with integer spin has an energy gap, and exponential decay of correlation functions , while half integer spin chains are gapless with algebraic decay of correlation functions. A spin chain with two types of spins and Heisenberg interaction shows a mixture of both types of behavior. A ferrimagnet which is composed of two spins (S, s) has two bands of energy, the lower band is gapless and ferromagnetic property while the upper one is gapful with antiferromagnetic behavior. In the present work we have studied the anisotropic ferrimagnet in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. We have shown that the spin wave theory...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Charmmchi, Hosseein (Author) ; Hashemi, Homayoun (Supervisor) ; Nasiri Kenari, Masoumeh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, the effect of cognition in wireless networks is studied. In a wireless communica-tion network, cognition is the ability of a device to sense the transmissions of neighboring nodes and adapt its own transmission to the sensed environment. Cognitive radios are very attractive be-cause of the increasing need for more efficient use of frequency spectrum. The goal of this thesis is the analysis of cognitive radio networks from an information theoretic perspective and to this end statistical models of the wireless medium with a limited and tractable number of devices are uti-lized. We consider three different models in three parts of the thesis. First, we consider a new...

AFT regression-adjusted monitoring of reliability data in cascade processes

    , Article Quality and Quantity ; Volume 47, Issue 6 , 2013 , Pages 3349-3362 ; 00335177 (ISSN) Asadzadeh, S ; Aghaie, A ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Today's competitive market has witnessed a growing interest in improving the reliability of products in both service and industrial operations. A large number of monitoring schemes have been introduced to effectively control the reliability-related quality characteristics. These methods have focused on single-stage processes or considered quality variables which are independent. However, the main feature of multistage processes is the cascade property which needs to be justified for the sake of optimal process monitoring. The problem becomes complicated when the presence of censored observations is pronounced. Therefore, both the effects of influential covariates and censored data must be...

Discrete Time vs Continuous Time Stock-price Dynamics and Implications for Option Pricing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asadzadeh, Ilnaz (Author) ; Alishahi, Kasra (Supervisor) ; Zamani, Shiva (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the present paper we construct stock price processes with the same marginal log- normal law as that of a geometric Brownian motion and also with the same transition density (and returns’ distributions) between any two instants in a given discrete-time grid. We then illustrate how option prices based on such processes differ from Black and Scholes’, in that option prices can be either arbitrarily close to the option intrinsic value or arbitrarily close to the underlying stock price. We also explain that this is due to the particular way one models the stock-price process in between the grid time instants which are relevant for trading

Simulation of Drag Reduction via Microgrooves Using Lattice Boltzmann Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asadzadeh, Homayoun (Author) ; Moosavi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Arghavani, Jamal (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, the lattice Boltzmann method has been widely used by scientists and engineers as an alternative to conventional numerical solvers for the Naiver-Stokes equations. The drag force decrease on the surfaces in industrial applications special in transport industries has always been of special importance. In the current research, the effects of the drag decrease has been investigated by making some rectangular grooves on the millimeter and micrometer scale on a flat surface that has been under external laminar flow of a single-phase fluid with the uniform type. Making grooves on the surfaces usually lead to change the contact area from the solid-fluid to fluid-fluid in the grooves area....

A Front-End for an Integrated UHF RFID Reader

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Homayoun, Aliakbar (Author) ; Sharif Bakhtiar, Mehrdad (Supervisor) ; Atarodi, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The use of Radio Frequency Identification is increasing rapidly. The reason is the capability to transfer data wirelessly without line-of-sight necessity, high data rate and long read range. The main advantage of barcode is its lower cost which has ensured its existence for many years. The applications and materials that are identified by RFID increase as the price of RFID tags decrease. This Project deals with the front-end of an Integrated RFID Reader for the UHF band. The bottleneck of the design is the presence of a large interferer just hundreds of kilohertz apart from the desired signal which is at about 900 MHz. The key idea of the design is utilizing feedback in order to cancel...

Phase diagram of the XXZ ferrimagnetic spin-(1/2, 1) chain in the presence of transverse magnetic field

    , Article Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment ; Volume 2011, Issue 8 , August , 2011 ; 17425468 (ISSN) Langari, A ; Abouie, J ; Asadzadeh, M. Z ; Rezai, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
We investigate the phase diagram of an anisotropic ferrimagnetic spin-(1/2, 1) in the presence of a non-commuting (transverse) magnetic field. We find a magnetization plateau for the isotropic case while there is no plateau for the anisotropic ferrimagnet. The magnetization plateau can appear only when the Hamiltonian has the U(1) symmetry in the presence of the magnetic field. The anisotropic model is driven by the magnetic field from the Néel phase for low fields to the spin-flop phase for intermediate fields and then to the paramagnetic phase for high fields. We find the quantum critical points and their dependence on the anisotropy of the aforementioned field-induced quantum phase...

    Abstract
Carbon nanotube webs exhibit interesting properties when used as thermo-acoustic projectors. This work studies thermo-acoustic effect of these sound sources both in near and far field regions. Based on two alternative forms of the energy equation, we have developed a straightforward formula for calculation of pressure field, which is consistent with experimental data in far field. Also we have solved full 3-D governing equations using numerical methods. Our three-dimensional simulation and experimental data show pressure waves are highly affected by dimensions of sound sources in near field due to interference effects. However, generation of sound waves in far field is independent of...

Dynamics of a Viscoelastic Plate on a Viscoelastic Foundation Subjected to a Moving Mass

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Foyouzat, Mohammad Ali (Author) ; Esmaeil Purestekanchi, Homayoun (Supervisor) ; Mofid, Masoud (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
This thesis investigates the dynamic response of a viscoelastic plate resting on a viscoelastic Winkler foundation subjected to the excitation of a moving mass. Through application of the Laplace transform, the governing equation of the problem is derived for a general viscoelastic material. Thereafter, an analytical-numerical method is proposed in order to determine the dynamic response of the viscoelastic plate. The method is based on transforming the governing partial differential equation into a new solvable system of linear ordinary differential equations. To that extent, the proposed solution proves to be applicable to plates made of any viscoelastic material and with various boundary...

    Abstract
Monitoring industrial and service processes with the purpose of improving the product reliability has been largely addressed in the literature. The surveillance procedures have been proposed with the concentration on single-stage processes with independent quality characteristics. However, the cascade property in multistage processes entails specific monitoring methods which take into account the dependency structure among quality variables in successive stages of a process. This is referred to as regression-adjustment that justifies the heterogeneity in the study population and thus leads to optimal monitoring of multistage processes. In general, it is not straightforward to adjust a...
