The Effect of Increasing The Value of Natural Gas Production on Property Value, Wages, Unemployment Rate and Birth Rate in The United States of America (2000-2011)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asgari, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Rahmati, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the present study, the effects of increasing the value of shale gas production, either due to increased production or price increases, have been studied on economic variables such as employment, wage, property value and the number of births. In this regard, the data for each of these variables was used at the county level in the United States of America between 2000 and 2011. In order to estimate the desired effects, counties are divided into two types of boom and non-boom counties. The findings indicate that increasing natural gas production will lead to more employment and wage growth in boom counties than non-boom counties. Also, during the period of increasing production, the value of...

    Abstract
The purpose of this research is to establish a neutron reference field for the calibration of neutron dosimeters based on the beam of the neutron radiography system in the Isfahan miniature neutron source reactor (MNSR). The aim is to address the several limitations, including the inability to achieve a wide range of dosimetry, high uncertainty due to variations in distance from the source, significant scattering, and non-uniformity. To overcome these issues, a linear, stable, and wide-range dosimetry field based on MNSR have been established, characterized and evaluated by using the variations of the reactor power. In the first step of establishing the calibration field, the linear and...

A New Approach to Requirements Engineering Process Aircraft Preliminary Design: with Application to the Aircraft Wing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asgari, Saeed (Author) ; Malaek, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This work describes a new approach to the so called “Engineering Requirements Process” based on abilities to develop a meaningful task. We first describe how a meaningful is created from scratch and then we explain how requirements could be added to a level where the predefined task is no-longer doable. The process is then applied to design of an aircraft wing to show how requirements could be avoided during a design process. The method is expected to be applicable to all aircraft sub-systems and parts. The process is particularly useful where all design requirements are not available at once, rather they increase as time goes on and new stakeholders become apparent. In this work, we have...

Study of Lithium-transition Metals-orthosilicates as Cathode Materials for Li-ion Batteries

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Kalantarian, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Asgari, Sirous (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, orthosilicate materials with chemical formula of Li2MSiO4 (M one or two transition metal/metals) were investigated experimentally and theoretically as cathode material of Li-ion batteries. The most important material in this category i.e. Li2FeSiO4 was synthesized by three methods including nitrate-based sol-gel, oxalate-based solid state reaction and oxide-based solid state reaction. Based on XRD and SEM evaluations, grain size of synthesized powders was estimated to be between 15 to 100 nanometers. Of these three methods, oxide-based solid state reaction was employed in this study for the first time. This syntheses method is very important due to the significant lower...

Investigating Hot Fracture Mechanism of MP210 Superalloy at High Temperature

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Habibi, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Asgari, Sirous (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The MP210 superalloy belongs to the category of multi-phase superalloys, designed for specific applications at high temperatures, such as components in gas turbine engines. However, its usage is limited due to hot fracture concerns at temperatures around 800 degrees Celsius. This research delves into the mechanism of hot fracture in this alloy. To explore this, the microstructural changes in samples subjected to hot tensile testing in the temperature range of 500 to 1000 degrees Celsius were studied using microscopic and microanalytical techniques. The yield strength and ultimate tensile strength at 500 degrees Celsius were 475 and 850 megapascals, respectively, decreasing to 105 megapascals...

Analysis of Parametric Amplification in Time-varying Lumped-element Circuits

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asgari, Mohammad Mahdi (Author) ; Memarian, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Mehrany, Khashayar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Researchers have long considered the phenomenon of parametric amplification. This phenomenon is introduced first in nonlinear structures and then in limited systems of time-varying linear structures. Time-modulated systems have many capabilities, such as amplification, non-reciprocity, and other phenomena in wave propagation. So far, time-varying circuits have been studied in terms of stability and analytical solution. The purpose of this project is to investigate parametric amplification in time-varying linear systems. Studying a structure under a circuit model is essential to other analyses practically implemented in various frequency ranges from microwave to light. As a result, this...

Resources and Language Processing Models for Hadith and Hadith/Quranic/Biblical Relation Analyses

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jahanmir Yazdi, Mohammad Aref (Author) ; Asgari, Ehsanoddin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Hadith, as one of the most important sources of classical Arabic text, presents the sayings and the conduct of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his family (A.S) as narratives of life and religious teachings. In this context, Hadith processing includes tasks such as sorting, extraction, linking, categorization, and alignment of information from hadith texts, which assist in easy access to information and better understanding of the meanings of the hadiths. The absence of a comprehensive database of hadiths presents a challenge, making access to information diffcult and comparison across different works impossible. Preprocessing of hadith texts faces challenges like information extraction (such as...

An Experimental Study of the Buzz Frequency and its Relation with the Corresponding Eigen Frequency in an Axisymmetric Supersonic Inlet

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asgari Kaji, Mohmmad Hassan (Author) ; Soltani, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
All supersonic intakes with external compression, having a good level of performance at all the critical poin t. Exhibit a marked instability of flow in subcritical operation below some value of the flow ratio, in the form of an oscillation of the shock system, colloquially known as “buzz", which can lead to thrust loss, engine surge or even structural damages. Therefore the effort to understand the nature and cause of this phenomenon is important in order that the starting of buzz can be predicted and more effectively avoided without losing performance. This phenomenon has been the subject of many studies, mainly experimental. In this research, we design and build an axisymmetric supersonic...

The low female labor force participation rate in the Iranian labor market relative to the global average and even to countries that do not differ significantly from the socio-economic characteristics of our country is one of the important questions of the Iranian labor market. In this study, we seek to answer the question of whether the economic participation rate of married women will increase if the gender gaps in wages, job findings and job losses among women and men are eliminated in the Iranian labor market. To answer this question using household expenditure and income data and labor force data, we show that between the two categories of occupations, in terms of the share of women's...

Correlations in a multisubband quasi-one-dimensional electron gas

    , Article Physical Review B - Condensed Matter and Materials Physics ; Volume 62, Issue 23 , 2000 , Pages 16001-16017 ; 01631829 (ISSN) Nafari, N ; Nafari, N ; Asgari, R ; Asgari, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2000
    Abstract
This paper is an extension of an earlier work on electron correlations in semiconducting GaAs-based quasi-one-dimensional quantum wires. The extension was twofold. First, we developed the Singwi, Tosi, Land, and Sölander (STLS) scheme for multisubband structures. Secondly, we developed the multisubband ladder approximation diagrammatic technique. By using the results obtained for the spin symmetric and spin antisymmetric interpolarization and intrapolarization potentials, we calculate the corresponding electron-electron effective potentials. Our results for a two-subband model show that these effective potentials have an attractive part implying the occurrence of s-wave and p-wave pairings,...

The Effect of Speed on Kinematic Variability and Dynamic Stability of Trunk in Subjects with and without Nonspecific Low back Pain during a Sagittal Repetitive Flexion Extension Movements

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asgari, Morteza (Author) ; Parnianpour, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Narimani, Rouya (Supervisor) ; Sanjari, Mohammad Ali (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Low back pain is one the most prevalent disease and major economic issue facing modern countries. Epidemiological studies suggest that maximum trunk flexion, the angular velocity of trunk and the rate of repetitive movements (such as flexion-extension), are associated with low-back disorders. From biomechanical point of view, lack of stability during dynamic repetitive movements, increases the risk of injuries. On the other hand, some researchers suggest increasing motor variability could be an intrinsic factor to intervene muscuskeletal disorders during repetitive movements. Pace of repetitive occupational tasks could affect both, motor variability and dynamic stability. The goal of this...

Learning Interpretable Representation of Drugs based on Microscopy Images

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sanian, Mohammad Vali (Author) ; Rohban, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, we aim to learn representations from microscopic cell images that effectively capture the features of drugs affecting the cells, allowing us to identify effective drugs for treating a disease. We employ two parallel learning paths using predictive and generative models. Specifically, we have achieved a predictive model on the RxRx19a dataset that, unlike previous models, is interpretable, optimized, and robust to dras- tic changes in drug properties. Additionally, we have developed the first generative model on this dataset, which not only generates high-quality images but also discovers a meaningful latent space. This latent space divides the representation into relevant...

Inflationary Permanent and Long-Term Positive Interest Rate Shocks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ahmadian, Mohammad Hesam (Author) ; Rahmati, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Co-movement between inflation and nominal interest in response to an interest rate shock, dubbed neo-fisherianism, has been the subject of contentious debate since the advent of non-inflationary ZLB environment. We design an economic model rich with banking features to understand the economic responses to permanent and long-term interest rate shocks. We find that responses to a permanent positive interest rate shock depend on the monetary authorities’ speculation of the new long-term inflation rate, with the most probable outcome being a permanent increase in inflation. Responses to a long-term positive interest rate shock depict an increase and then decrease in inflation. We also discover...

A new model for robust facility layout problem [electronic resource]

, Article Information Sciences, Elsevier ; Volume 278, 10 September 2014, Pages 498–509 Neghabi, H. (Hossein) ; Eshghi, Kourosh ; Salmani, Mohammad Hassan ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The Facility Layout Problem (FLP) is the problem of locating each department in a long plant floor without any overlap between departments in order to minimize the material handling cost. The main purpose of this study is to show the effectiveness of a robust approach to solve FLP. In this study, it is assumed that the departments’ length and width are not predetermined. For modeling this kind of uncertainty, the size of each department is considered as a bounded variable and two new parameters are also introduced to implement a robust approach. Moreover, a new adaptive algorithm is designed to determine the robust layout with respect to the decision makers’ requirements. Furthermore, the...
