, Article Journal of Nanomaterials ; Volume 2010 , 2010 ; 16874110 (ISSN) ; Soltanmohammad, S ; Sharif University of Technology
2010
Abstract
LiCoO2 nanopowders, one of the most important cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries, were synthesized via a modified sol-gel process assisted with triethanolamine (TEA) as a complexing agent. The influence of three different chelating agents including acrylic acid, citric acid, and oxalic acid on the size and morphology of particles was investigated. Structure and morphology of the synthesized powders were characterized by thermogravimetric/ differential thermal analyses (TG/DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Results indicate that the powder processed with TEA and calcinated at 800 °C had an excellent hexagonal ordering of α-NaFeO2 -type (space...

Abstract
Two different ternary nanocomposites, PPy/CNT/CoFe2O4 and PPy/CNT/NiFe2O4, were synthesized by in situ polymerization method. The resulting composites were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. They were evaluated with the aim of investigating microwave absorption properties. The results showed that the value of microwave reflection decreases as that of prepared nanocomposites increases. This happens with increase in the PPy content and polymerization on the surface. © 2018 Académie des sciences

Abstract
Li2FeSiO4 was synthesized through Sol–Gel method and the effect of calcination temperature, time and chelating agent concentration were investigated. Appropriate calcination temperature above 550 °C was determined by TG/DTA analysis. Afterward, the dried gel powder was calcined at each temperature of 650 °C, 700 °C and 750 °C for 1, 2 and 3 h. XRD studies illustrated the most appropriate calcination temperature of 700 °C for 1 h. To compare the effect of chelating agent concentration, citric acid with molar ratio of 1/3, 2/3 and 1 were used which 1/3 was determined as the best concentration. FE-SEM observation showed that mean grain is size lower than 100 nm. By using this material, a three...
Dynamic optimization in chemical processes using region reduction strategy and Control Vector Parameterization with an Ant Colony Optimization algorithm
, Article Chemical Engineering and Technology ; Volume 31, Issue 4 , 2008 , Pages 507-512 ; 09307516 (ISSN) ; Pishvaie, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
2008
Abstract
Two different approaches of the dynamic optimization for chemical process control engineering applications are presented. The first approach is based on discretizing both the control region and the time interval. This method, known as the Region Reduction Strategy (RRS), employs the previous solution in its next iteration to obtain more accurate results. Moreover, the procedure will continue unless the control region becomes smaller than a prescribed value. The second approach is called Control Vector Parameterization (CVP) and appears to have a large number of advantages. In this approach, control action is generated in feedback form, i.e., a set of trial functions of the state variables...
As-cast mechanical properties of vanadium/niobium microalloyed steels
, Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 486, Issue 1-2 , 2008 , Pages 1-7 ; 09215093 (ISSN) ; Rassizadehghani, J ; Asgari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
2008
Abstract
Tensile and room temperature Charpy V-notch impact tests along with microstructural studies were used to evaluate the variations in the as-cast mechanical properties of low-carbon steels with and without vanadium and niobium. Tensile test results indicate that good combinations of strength and ductility can be achieved by microalloying additions. While the yield strength and UTS increase up to respectively 370-380 and 540-580 MPa in the microalloyed heats, their total elongation range from 20 to 25%. TEM studies revealed that random and interphase fine-scale microalloy precipitates play a major role in the strengthening of the microalloyed heats. On the other hand, microalloying additions...

Abstract
The correlations between the hardness, yield stress, and modulus of elasticity of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) were evaluated on the local and global scales. Nanoindentation and traditional macromechanical tests were incorporated for this purpose. Thus, local and global mechanical properties were measured at various temperatures and strain rates. A certain relation was found between the local and global mechanical properties. Moreover, Johnson's model (developed according to the expanding cavity model) was also evaluated at various temperatures and strain rates. The Johnson model was valid only for the yield stresses obtained by nanoindentation and compressive tests and also the elastic...
Improvement and experimental validation of a multi-zone model for combustion and NO emissions in CNG fueled spark ignition engine

Abstract
This article reports the experimental and theoretical results for a spark ignition engine working with compressed natural gas as a fuel. The theoretical part of this work uses a zero-dimensional, multi-zone combustion model in order to predict nitric oxide (NO) emission in a spark ignition (SI) engine. The basic concept of the model is the division of the burned gas into several distinct zones for taking into account the temperature stratification of the burned mixture during combustion. This is especially important for accurate NO emissions predictions, since NO formation is strongly temperature dependent. During combustion, 12 products are obtained by chemical equilibrium via Gibbs energy...

Abstract
This paper is an extension of an earlier work on electron correlations in semiconducting GaAs-based quasi-one-dimensional quantum wires. The extension was twofold. First, we developed the Singwi, Tosi, Land, and Sölander (STLS) scheme for multisubband structures. Secondly, we developed the multisubband ladder approximation diagrammatic technique. By using the results obtained for the spin symmetric and spin antisymmetric interpolarization and intrapolarization potentials, we calculate the corresponding electron-electron effective potentials. Our results for a two-subband model show that these effective potentials have an attractive part implying the occurrence of s-wave and p-wave pairings,...
A new link function in GLM-based control charts to improve monitoring of two-stage processes with Poisson response
, Article International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology ; Vol. 72, issue. 9-12 , 2014 , p. 1243-1256 ; Amiri, A ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this paper, a new procedure is developed to monitor a two-stage process with a second stage Poisson quality characteristic. In the proposed method, log and square root link functions are first combined to introduce a new link function that establishes a relationship between the Poisson variable of the second stage and the quality characteristic of the first stage. Then, the standardized residual statistic, which is independent of the quality characteristic in the previous stage and follows approximately standardized normal distribution, is computed based on the proposed link function. Then, Shewhart and exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) cause-selecting charts are utilized to...

Abstract
Herein, we report the impact of single- and co-doping of nanoparticle TiO2 films with carbon and nitrogen on the photovoltaic characteristics of their corresponding dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) devices. Different DSCs with various compositions of the photoanode electrodes are fabricated to study their structural and electronic properties by X-ray diffraction (XRD), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). We find that the interstitial nitrogen atoms for single N doping have a greater impact on the band gap energy (Eg) than the substitutional (to Ti) carbon...
