, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ashoori, Taha (Author) ; Jafarzadeh, Fardin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Increasing requirements of industries and research institutes to analytical results of interaction soil-foundation related systems, reveals the importance of the dynamic impedance functions than ever before. The dynamic impedance function relations are presented for massless rigid foundations which is possible to obtain dynamic response of foundations for different frequencies and masses accordingly. In this study, the dynamic impedance functions were investigated using physical modeling tests on sandy soil with finite thickness soil stratum over bedrock. The tests were carried out inside a steel container of dimensions 110.8m in length, width and height respectively which was filled into...

    Abstract
Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) are sparse and highly dynamic networks where intermittent connectivity is a common event. In these networks, nodes have time-limited connection opportunity to other moving nodes. Therefore, routing is a major challenge in these networks and researchers have tried to design efficient routing algorithms. Important performance metrics of desired routing algorithms are high delivery probability, low energy consumption and low end to end latency. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient routing algorithm which is based upon the encounter probabilities of nodes. We use these encounter probabilities to derive a utility metric. Moreover, we utilize assumptions and...

Analysis and Improvement of Energy-Efficient Routing Algorithms for Delay Tolerant Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ashoori, Mehri (Author) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) are sparse networks in which intermittent connectivity happens due to energy shortage or high mobility and long latency is unavoidable. These networks have a wide range of applications in our daily life such as internet of moving things. In delay tolerant networks, finding an end to end path between source and destination is almost impossible. Therefore, routing can’t be done based on finding an end to end path but it has to be done based on hop by hop sessions. In this thesis, we aim to represent an efficient routing algorithm for delay tolerant networks that can improve delivery probability, delivery cost and delivery latency. Our proposed routing algorithm is...

Power System Load Frequency Control in the Presence of Wind Turbines

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ashoori Zadeh, Alireza (Author) ; Ranjbar, Ali Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study presents the application of the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) to reduce the frequency deviation and improve frequency of a power system. This has been done by proposing a wind turbine model and a new fuzzy controller. The fuzzy controller has been suggested to change the speed of the wind turbine rotor and modify the impacts of wind speed fluctuations on the output power. The fuzzy controller parameters are optimized using the genetic algorithm (GA) to achieve the appropriate transient response. A smart controller is combined with fuzzy controller to optimize the usage of wind turbine’s kinetic energy. Furthermore, the DFIG with the proposed controller participates in the...

A Data Replication Algorithm to Improve Performance of Cloud Data Centers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mehri, Saeedeh (Author) ; Movaghar, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The daily growth of cloud computing usage for data based applications and Internet services has caused many challenges in the sense of storage cost, data access performance, QoS provision such as availability, scalability, pay-as-you-go model conformation and etc. Data replication is one of the most important mechanisms for data management in distributed systems. It creates some replicas of data and distributes them to the network. The number of replicas, the time for creating a new replica, the way of their distribution among the nodes and replica replacement strategy in the case of storage unavailability are some important challenges in data replication context. Replication is extensively...

Weak solutions to Vlasov-McKean equations under Lyapunov-type conditions

    , Article Stochastics and Dynamics ; Volume 19, Issue 6 , 2019 ; 02194937 (ISSN) Mehri, S ; Stannat, W ; Sharif University of Technology
World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte Ltd  2019
    Abstract
We present a Lyapunov-type approach to the problem of existence and uniqueness of general law-dependent stochastic differential equations. In the existing literature, most results concerning existence and uniqueness are obtained under regularity assumptions of the coefficients with respect to the Wasserstein distance. Some existence and uniqueness results for irregular coefficients have been obtained by considering the total variation distance. Here, we extend this approach to the control of the solution in some weighted total variation distance, that allows us now to derive a rather general weak uniqueness result, merely assuming measurability and certain integrability on the drift...

    Abstract
Increase of nonlinear loads in industries has resulted in high levels of harmonic currents and consequently harmonic voltages in power networks. Harmonics have several negative effects such as higher energy losses and equipment life reduction. To reduce the levels of harmonics in power networks, different methods of harmonic suppression have been employed. The basic idea in all of these methods is to prevent harmonics from flowing into a power network at customer sides and the point of common coupling (PCC). Due to the costs, none of the existing mitigating methods result in a harmonic-free power system. The remaining harmonic currents, which rotate in a power network according to the system...

    Abstract
In this paper we consider the nonlinear third-order quasi-linear differential equationx‴+k2x′=εfx,x′,x″and obtain some simple conditions for the existence of a periodic solution for it. In so doing we use the implicit function theorem to prove a theorem about the existence of periodic solutions and consider one example to show the realizability of the conditions. The validity of the conditions for the parameter-free problemx‴+k2x′=fx,x′,x″also is considered. © 2001 Academic Press

Periodic solution of a certain non-linear third order differential equation

    Abstract
In this paper, the third order differential equation x‴ + ψ (x′)x″ + (κ2 +ø (x))x′ + f(t, x = e(t) is considered. Under certain conditions on the functions appearing in the differential equation, the existence of periodic solutions is proved. Similar problems have been treated by authors in [4,6,7]. However, the method employed here is used by Reissig [1] and the results obtained are, in fact, a generalization of those in [1-3]. The conditions imposed on the nonlinear terms do not require the ultimate boundedness of all solutions. © Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Here we are concerned with the problem of the existence of periodic solution for certain second and third-order nonlinear differential equations. Our method here is to consider the problem as an eigenvalue problem and treat it by the topological degree theory. In particular we establish the conditions of the existence of periodic solution first for a simpler system which is homotopic to the original system and then generalize the obtained results for the focal system. The method employed here is applicable also for a system of nonlinear differential equations just with simple modifications. Finally, we present some specific examples numerically to show that the results are valid and...

Some computable results on the existence of periodic solutions for singular non-autonomous third order systems

    , Article Applied Mathematics and Computation ; Volume 163, Issue 1 , 2005 , Pages 51-60 ; 00963003 (ISSN) Mehri, B ; Niksirat, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Here we are concerned with the existence of periodic solution for nonlinear non-autonomous third order system of ordinary differential equations with singular terms. Our method here is based on the topological method in the sense that we conclude some computable results for the focal system from a homotopic nonsingular system. The aim is to obtain sufficient conditions for which the system has periodic solution whenever the value of deformation with respect to the first variation of the nonsingular subsystem is sufficiently small. The method presented here is constructive in the sense that the existence of periodic orbits can be verified numerically as well as computed if any. For this, we...

    Abstract
This study proposes a response-based parameter for strong motion duration which is computed for structures and is the total time they are nonlinear during an earthquake. Correlation between structural response and duration for structures, subjected to a set of spectrum matched ground motions, is employed to examine the efficiency of the proposed method. The spectral matching procedure ensures that the influence of amplitude and frequency content of motions on structural response variability is significantly removed. Four concrete building type systems are studied and correlation coefficients of structural response with the proposed duration definition are examined. Comparison of the proposed...

    Abstract
Foam flooding has been applied as a promising method in enhanced oil recovery to obviate the challenges of gas flooding such as fingering, channeling and overriding. However, long-term foam stability is crucial for mobility control. In this work, the effective mechanisms on foam stability in the presence of CaCO3 nanoparticles were assessed both theoretically and experimentally. The static and dynamic behaviors of cationic surfactant (HTAB) foam in the presence of CaCO3 nanoparticles with different hydrophobicity were evaluated. The CaCO3 nanoparticles were treated with a series of long-chain fatty acids to generate a range of wettability. Afterward, the underlying mechanisms were revealed...

    Video Super-Resolution Using Machine Learning

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ashoori, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Amini, Arash (Supervisor) ; Marvasti, Farrokh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Super-resolution means increasing the resolution so that the quality improves. This is defined for both image and video. In this regard, machine-learning based methods, especially convolutional neural networks, have shown great potential in recent years. Finding the right structure that can deliver high speed and accuracy is the key to solving the super-resolution problem.Despite the myriad of methods for image super-resolution, less attention has been paid to its generalization to video. This generalization should be such that more detail is created in the output using adjacent frames. In this dissertation, the existing methods for image and video super-resolution are reviewed, and then a...
