Abstract
In the last decade, Intrusion Detection Systems has attracted attention due to their importance in network security, but still they've shortcomings. Generating a lot of low level alerts is the main problem. Many of these alerts are actually false positives. One suggested solution is Alert Correlation Analysis. Because of false positives alert correlation techniques are not able to build accurate scenarios, but the accuracy of alerts can be verified with the aid of the information logged in the host systems. In this dissertation after surveying the current alert correlation techniques, a model will be introduced to effectively verify the generated alerts and to apply correlation techniques to...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rafiei, Majid (Supervisor) ; Khedmati, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, requirement engineering and goal modeling have gained more attention among different organisations. Therefore, different methods have been designed to discover stakeholders’ requirements and translate them into process and organizational goals. Various goal models have been introduced to represent these goals and their relations towards each other. Still, these methods are manual representations of different process scenarios and do not relate to the actual behavior. In 2014, Map Miner Method (MMM) was introduced to discover intentional process models from event logs. MMM uses Hidden Markov Model (HMM) as a means to represent the process as a map model of strategies and...

Abstract
The magnetic convection heat transfer in an obstructed two-dimensional square cavity is investigated numerically. The walls of the cavity are heated with different constant temperatures at two sides, and isolated at two other sides. The cavity is filled with a high Prandtl number ferrofluid. The convective force is induced by a magnetic field gradient of a thermally insulated square permanent magnet located at the center of the cavity. The results are presented in the forms of streamlines, isotherms, and Nusselt number for various values of magnetic Rayleigh numbers and permanent magnet size. Two major circulations are generated in the cavity, clockwise flow in the upper half and...

Vacuum of Classical Mechanic, Quantum Field and General Relativity
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
The idea of "vacuum energy" with definition of the "Aether" has many historical backgrounds from Aristotelian philosophy to 19th century and the advent of quantum vacuum. Some assert vacuum which is defined as "pure void" and others have got contrary viewpoints. It can be said that the history of vacuum is as old as history of physics. With the advent of quantum mechanics, vacuum has taken a specific definition. Vacuum from vision of quantum mechanics describes that vacuum is the minimum possible energy state, because if the energy of "quantum vacuum state" became zero, Heisenberg uncertainty principle would be violated. The important consequence of quantum mechanics will be in apparent...

Abstract
As a competitive advantage in modern organizations, product diversification may cause complexities in today's extended supply chains. However, the Common Platform (CP) Strategy, as a concept of gaining maximum variety by minimum production elements, is believed to be one of the answers to eliminate or decrease these complexities. The main purpose of this paper is to provide a simulation framework for modeling the supply network of a case study in automotive industry in order to study the impacts of part commonality through the chain. The electrical wiring harness is selected as the main part to be studied according to essentiality and challenges of its procurement for the production of cars...

Abstract
Palladium nanoparticles (Pd-NPs) were supported on functional and nonfunctional Co-coordination polymers (Pd/CoBDCNH2 and Pd/CoBDC). Advanced analytical techniques revealed that Pd-NPs are supported on the external surface of the polymer framework and the functionalized framework possesses effective influence to prevent Pd-NP aggregation. Supported Pd-NPs were effectively applied as heterogeneous recyclable catalysts in the Mizoroki–Heck C–C cross coupling reactions of iodobenzene and either aromatic or aliphatic terminal alkenes. Catalytic results exhibited that highly dispersed Pd-NPs with low loading (1%) on the functional polymer (Pd/CoBDCNH2) are more effective than aggregated Pd-NPs...
Design and Assessment of Accuracy of a Patient-Specific Drill Guide Template for Thoracic Pedicle Screw Placement
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Arjmand, Navid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Fusion surgery or fixation of vertebrae in the spine is used to treat scoliosis, fractures, infections, tumors, spinal cord injuries, and disc herniation. In this type of surgery, two or more vertebrae are connected by special screws called pedicle screws to eliminate movement between the vertebrae. Given the serious risks of spinal fusion surgery, if the slightest mistake is made at the entry point or angle of the screw inside the vertebrae, the risk of spinal cord injury is very high, which is one of the complications of fusion surgery. Therefore, in order to increase the accuracy of screw placement, patient-specific template guides are used as drill guides in this operation. For this...

Abstract
This paper presents the prototype design and fabrication of a magnetically actuated miniature pump that utilizes self-sealing capability of ferrofluid-covered permanent magnets in both pumping and valving mechanisms. The valving action is performed by employing one active valve along with two nozzle/diffuser elements. Two cylindrical permanent magnets are placed inside the flat-wall channels: One magnet acts as the active valve and the other one serves as a reciprocating piston actuating the working fluid. In order to seal the gaps between the channel walls and the permanent magnet of the valve/piston, ferrofluid is used to cover the surfaces of both magnets. The valve and the piston are...

The magnetic piston is covered by a ferrofluid to provide self-sealing capability. A prototype composed of three bonded layers of polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA) has been fabricated. Water has been successfully pumped at pressures of up to 750 Pa and flow rates of up to 700 μl min-1 while...
Deep Learning Algorithms and Generative Models for Grayscale Image Colorization
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahdavi Amiri, Nezamoddin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Over the past years, translating a grayscale image to a colorful image, due to its applications in medical imaging, and restoring and colorizing old images, has been popular. The problem we are studying here is automatic grayscale image translation to a colorized image such that the colorized image appears as real as possible. Due to the large degrees of freedom in the allocation of colors to different sections of a grayscale image, this problem is extremely ill-posed. Hence, based on previous works we attempt to utilize Generative Adversarial Networks and Convolutional Neural Networks to overcome this issue. The trained model receives a grayscale image and predicts two chromatic channels of...

Abstract
The Under Frequency Load Shedding (UFLS) is the last automated action to restore power system frequency stability when a severe contingency causes a significant drop in the frequency of interconnection or islanded areas. In this paper, a novel probabilistic algorithm that considers the wind turbine frequency response is proposed to design and optimize the UFLS scheme. The uncertainties of power systems such as wind speed, hourly load, inertia time constant, and generation losses are taken into account. The Monte-Carlo Simulation (MCS) method is used to model the power system uncertainties. Additionally, a novel method is developed to calculate the power system frequency response and...
