Abstract
Now days titanium dioxide is used in different applications because of its good electrical properties, optical stability and cost savings. According to their different nanoscale TiO2 structures, it has been determined that 1D structures such as nanorods, nanotubes and nanowires has better properties than the other structures, including enhancing electron transport and create an offered directional way of transporting of the electrons. However, the grain boundaries in polycrystalline TiO2 nanowires or nanotubes cause electron scattering or trapping, which limit their application in optoelectronics. From these TiO2 structures, TiO2 nanorods have special importance because of less defects...

Seismic Behavior of Curved (Sinusoidal) Shear Wall
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
So far many systems have been proposed to withstand the lateral loads. For example in a concrete structure, the two concrete moment frame and moment frame with shear wall are commonly used.in the latter case, the shear walls are used to bear a large part of lateral forces.one of the disadvantages of this system is the high consumption of materials and lack of maneuver on their shape. The curved concrete shear wall is a new seismic system that, due to the curvature on the plan, will have the ability to provide the hardness, strength, and ductility required to withstand lateral loads. The goal of this project is to investigate the seismic performance of these types of walls against cyclic...

Abstract
OFDM is a multicarrier modulation scheme with high bandwidth efficiency and robustness to multipath environment used in high data rate transmission. However, a drawback of this system is the large Peak-to-Average-Power Ratio (PAR) of the transmit signal which makes its straightforward implementation quite costly. PAR in an OFDM based system can be reduced significantly by PTS method for which data recovery requires side information (SI) about the phases used at transmitter. Sending SI, not only reduces the rate, but also increases BER, for any error in SI detection can damage a large amount of transmitted information. By introducing a new phase set, we propose a PTS based method for MPSK...
Numerical Simulation of Natural Convection Using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics with Artificial Compressibility Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hejranfar, Kazem (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research, the numerical simulation of the natural convection is performed by using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics based on the artificial compressibility method. For this aim, the formulation of the artificial compressibility method in the Eulerian reference frame for the mass and momentum equations is written in the Lagragian reference frame and the Lagrangin form of the energy equation is also considered to compute the thermal effects. The benefit of the artificial compressibility-based incompressible SPH (ACISPH) method over the weakly compressible SPH (WCSPH) method for computing the natural convection is that there is no need in the formulation considered here to use any...

Abstract
This paper proposes an artificial pheromone communication system inspired by social insects. The proposed model is an extension of the previously developed pheromone communication system, COS-Φ. The new model increases COS-Φ flexibility by adding two new features, namely, diffusion and advection. The proposed system consists of an LCD flat screen that is placed horizontally, overhead digital camera to track mobile robots, which move on the screen, and a computer, which simulates the pheromone behaviour and visualises its spatial distribution on the LCD. To investigate the feasibility of the proposed pheromone system, real micro-robots, Colias, were deployed which mimicked insects' role in...

Abstract
Disease prediction is a well-known classification problem in medical applications. Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs) provide a powerful tool for analyzing the patients’ features relative to each other. This can be achieved by modeling the problem as a graph node classification task, where each node is a patient. Due to the nature of such medical datasets, class imbalance is a prevalent issue in the field of disease prediction, where the distribution of classes is skewed. When the class imbalance is present in the data, the existing graph-based classifiers tend to be biased towards the major class(es) and neglect the samples in the minor class(es). On the other hand, the correct diagnosis...
Experimental Evaluation and Parametric Study of Side Plate Steel Connection
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mohtasham Dolatshahi, Kiarash (Supervisor) ; Mirghaderi, Rasool (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
This study aims to parametric study and model steel joints with side plates. steel joints with continuum plates have been seismically acceptable for years, assuming they are designed to be stronger than beams. After the Northridge earthquake, the belief that the adequacy conditions of flexural frame joints were limited to stiffness and strength factors was challenged for two main reasons. First, at the junction of the beam with the column, high tension is created by the seismic force, and as a result, it buckles and loses its strength before reaching the projected force. The second problem is due to the problem of making such connections that it is difficult to weld. Therefore, the problem...

Abstract
In this paper, the behavior of a fractional order Van der Pol-like oscillator is investigated using a describing function method. A parametric function for the boundary between oscillatory and nonoscillatory regions of this system is extracted. The analytical results are evaluated by numerical simulations which demonstrate sufficient reliability of the proposed analyzing method
Using the fluid/structure interaction to mitigate the seismic response of structures equiped with cylindrical liquid tanks subjected to near field earthquakes
, Article 11th East Asia-Pacific Conference on Structural Engineering and Construction, EASEC-11, Taipei, 19 November 2008 through 21 November 2008 ; 2008 ; Rofooei, F. R ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Seismic response of a Single Degree of Freedom (SDOF) system containing a rigid circular cylindrical liquid tank under the earthquake excitations is considered in the presence of fluid/structure interaction. The governing differential equations of the system is derived considering the first three liquid sloshing modes (1, 1), (0, 1) and (2, 1) under different strong ground motions. The dynamic response of the system is investigated in the neighborhood of 1:1 and 1:2 internal resonances between the SDOF system and the liquid sloshing modes. These internal resonances take place by tuning the frequency of the first asymmetric sloshing mode of the liquid to the fundamental frequency of the SDOF...

Abstract
The lateral response of a single degree of freedom (SDOF) structural system containing a rigid circular cylindrical liquid tank, under harmonic and earthquake excitations is considered. The governing differential equations of motion for the combined system is derived considering the first 3 liquid sloshing modes (1,1), (0,1), and (2,1), under horizontal excitation. The system is considered nonlinear due to the convective term of liquid acceleration and the nonlinear surface boundary conditions, both caused by the inertial nonlinearity. The harmonic and seismic response of the system is investigated in the neighborhood of 1:1 and 1:2 internal resonances between the SDOF system and the first...

Abstract
Multi-modal data comprising imaging (MRI, fMRI, PET, etc.) and non-imaging (clinical test, demographics, etc.) data can be collected together and used for disease prediction. Such diverse data gives complementary information about the patient's condition to make an informed diagnosis. A model capable of leveraging the individuality of each multi-modal data is required for better disease prediction. We propose a graph convolution based deep model which takes into account the distinctiveness of each element of the multi-modal data. We incorporate a novel self-attention layer, which weights every element of the demographic data by exploring its relation to the underlying disease. We demonstrate...

Abstract
The cooperative relay cognitive interference channel (RCIC) is a four-node network with two source nodes (primary source and cognitive source) and two destination nodes, in which sources try to communicate at certain rates with their corresponding destinations simultaneously through a common medium and each destination can act as a relay to assist the other one. For the partially cooperative RCIC (PC-RCIC), in which only one of the destinations (corresponding to the cognitive source) acts as a relay, we derive an achievable rate region based on using rate splitting and superposition coding at the cognitive source, and using decode-and-forward scheme at the relay. For the degraded PC-RCIC, we...

Abstract
In this study six Cold-Formed Steel shear wall (CFS) with one and two side steel sheeting are tested under reversed cyclic loading. Besides, thirteen numerical models are simulated, using nonlinear finite element method, and analyzed under monotonic pushover loading. The studied parameters are the comparison of one and two side steel sheeting, the nominal thickness of steel sheet and boundary elements, and height to width aspect ratios of the wall. The performance of tested specimens is investigated in terms of lateral load-story drift response, failure modes and ultimate strength of shear walls. Based on AISI S213 the available strength of two-sided steel-sheathed walls is cumulative but...

Abstract
In this paper, an adaptive channel estimation algorithm is proposed for the multi-user robust relay beamforming problem. We propose a norm-bounded channel uncertainty model for all of the channels. We employ the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) and the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) for joint estimation of channel coefficients and beamforming weights, and propose a Markov model for source-relay and relay-destination channels as well as the beamforming weights in the relays. The channel coefficients and bemforming weights are shown to be well-estimated in order to minimize the total relays power transmission subject to worst-case signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) criterion at each...

Abstract
An efficient hybrid method is presented for the analysis of the interference phenomenon in high frequency communication circuits. The method is based on the transmission line matrix (TLM) method, augmented with a time domain integral formulation using the free space Green's function to account for the radiation of equivalent sources on boundary surfaces. The method is highly effective in reducing the dispersion effects in the TLM method and drastically reduces its computational intensity. © 2003 IEEE

Abstract
The increased amount of multi-modal medical data has opened the opportunities to simultaneously process various modalities such as imaging and non-imaging data to gain a comprehensive insight into the disease prediction domain. Recent studies using Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs) provide novel semi-supervised approaches for integrating heterogeneous modalities while investigating the patients’ associations for disease prediction. However, when the meta-data used for graph construction is not available at inference time (e.g., coming from a distinct population), the conventional methods exhibit poor performance. To address this issue, we propose a novel semi-supervised approach named GKD...
