Experimental Investigation of the Effect of Nozzle Exit Flow on the Aerodynamic Behavior at Transonic Speed
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Farahani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The aim of this investigation is the experimental study of nozzle exhaust jet flow effects on aerodynamic behavior of an air vehicle at transonic speeds. For this sake, a secondary jet injection is used by the ejector into test model. The ejector total pressure for jet injection varies between 0 (jet off) to 4 bar for simulating nozzle exhaust jet flow and supplying intake’s required mass flow rate. All tests were conducted at QRC Trisonic wind tunnel and at Mach number of 0.5 to 0.85 and angles of -4 to 6 deg. The aerodynamic force and pressure results were recorded in order to analyze the exhaust jet flow. This study revealed that the aerial vehicle drag becomes bigger than its free flight...
Probabilistic Reasoning in Collaborative Filtering
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Izadi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis the usage of probabilistic reasoning in collaborative filtering is investigated. The problem of predicting users' rating is formulated as a Bayesian decision problem and a generative probabilistic model is used in order to find the optimal decision. Two different probabilistic models are considered: user based model and rating based model. In user based model prediction of ratings is based on structural learning of Bayesian networks. In rating based model, we assume a predefined Bayesian network represents the joint distribution over model variables and rating prediction is carried out using McMc inference method. MovieLens dataset is chosen to evaluate and compare the results...
Design and Synthesis of Metal Nanocatalysts Immobilized on Magnetic Nanoparticles and their Application in Organic Reactions such as Coupling and Synthesis of Triazoles
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Matloubi Moghaddam, Firouz (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, heterogenous catalysts based on magnetic nanoparticles coated with organosilanes and poly(ionic liquids) were synthesized. These catalysts were synthesized by hydrolysis of tetraethyl organosilanes and other organosilicons such as 3-aminopropyl triethoxy silane and polymerization of some monomers in the presence of ionic cross-link agents. The synthesized matrixes were used to stabilize precious metals such as Pd and Au. The magnetic properties of the catalysts aid to easy separation from the reaction medium by an external magnetic field. High thermal stability low toxicity and high-level loading of metals are some beneficiaries of the magnetic catalysts. At the end,...

Abstract
The first example of a heterogeneous catalytically active system for Buchwald–Hartwig and Ullmann homocoupling of unactivated aryl halides (fluorobenzene) is presented. The novel magnetic heterogeneous palladium catalyst was synthesized by immobilization of palladium ions onto an aminopyridine-functionalized Fe3O4. The catalyst was fully characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, temperature-programmed reduction, thermogravimetric analysis, CHN elemental analysis, transmission electron microscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and atomic absorption spectroscopy. By using this catalyst system, various types of primary and...

Abstract
Removal or suppression of key proteins in an essential pathway of a pathogen is expected to disrupt the pathway and prohibit the pathogen from performing a vital function. Thus disconnecting multiple essential pathways should disrupt the survival of a pathogen even when it has multiple pathways to drug resistance. We consider a scenario where the drug-resistance pathways are unknown. To disrupt these pathways, we consider a cut set S of G, where G is a connected simple graph representing the protein interaction network of the pathogen, so that G-S splits to two partitions such that the endpoints of each pathway are in different partitions. If the difference between the sizes of the two...

Abstract
A new heterogeneous and highly dispersive nanocatalyst in water was prepared by the immobilization of Cu2+ onto glucose on Fe3O4. The catalyst was fully characterized by FT-IR, TGA, CHN, SEM, EDX, and atomic absorption spectroscopy. The synthesized catalyst was used in the synthesis of different derivatives of 1,2,3-triazole via a one-pot three-component reaction of alkynes, alkyl halides, and sodium azide. To the best of our knowledge, this novel catalyst adheres to the principles of green chemistry. The nanocatalyst could be recycled and reused in several runs without significant loss of activity

Abstract
A novel heterogeneous copper catalyst was synthesized in which poly(1-vinyl imidazole-co-ionic liquid) was used as a solid heterogeneous support. The catalyst was readily synthesized in a large scale amount. The catalyst has a high loading level of copper ions and can be used in low weight percentages. The resulting catalyst was highly active in the preparation of triazoles by the Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition method. In some cases the catalytic turnover number and frequency reached 70 002 and 3889 h-1, respectively. The catalyst was recycled many times without significant loss of activity. This journal is

Abstract
Abstract: Carbonyl compounds were prepared by selective oxidation of alcohols in the presence of recoverable Fe 3O 4@ SiO 2@ Pd magnetic nanocatalyst in aqueous media as a green solvent. Molecular oxygen served as an oxidant. The catalyst was removed from the reaction media by external magnetic field, washed with methanol, and reused for six more times without any considerable reduction in its reactivity. The chemoselectivity and regioselectivity of the catalyst can serve for selective oxidation of primary alcohols in the presence of secondary ones, and for oxidation of unhindered alcohols in the presence of hindered ones. Graphical Abstract: Selective and facile oxidation of alcohols to...

Abstract
Aryl halides and especially inactive aryl chlorides were coupled to benzenoid aromatic rings in a Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction in the absence of organic solvents and toxic phosphine ligands. The reaction was catalysed by a recoverable magnetic nanocatalyst, Pd@Fe3O4, in aqueous media. This method is green, and the catalyst is easily removed from the reaction media using an external magnetic field and can be re-used at least 10 times without any considerable loss in its activity. The catalyst was characterized using scanning and transmission electron microscopies, thermogravimetric analysis, inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, CHN analysis,...

Abstract
Abstract: We report robust green synthesis of novel 1,2,3-triazole-based sulfonamides bearing different motifs such as fluorine under click conditions in presence of a copper-based magnetically recoverable and reusable heterogeneous nanocatalyst. The organocopper catalyst at 0.5 mol.% was highly recyclable (up to five times) when recovered using an external magnet without significant loss in catalytic activity. The mild reaction conditions and excellent yields (69–95 %) make this protocol an attractive method for efficient synthesis of the title compounds. The structure of product 3a was determined by Röntgen crystal structure analysis. Graphical Abstract: [Figure not available: see...
Calculation of the Energy Release Rate of Nano-Cracks in FCC Materials Via the Many Body Atomic Scale FEM
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mohammadi Shodja, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Since the classical continuum theory fails to deal with the problems associated with defects, stress concentrators, and relevant deformation phenomena in solids, alternative approaches that can detect the atomistic nature of materials' fracture are required. The deficiency of the capture the size effect which yields delusively high values for some components of the stress field right on the edge of the stress concentrators, and its weakness in describing the complex interaction between small inhomogeneities, cracks and the like when they are only a few nanometers apart, are among some of the disadvantages of the classical approach. In recent years, however, atomistic methods are emerging to...
Semisolid Stir Joining of As-Cast Silicon-Aluminum Bronze
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Kokabi, Amir Hossein (Supervisor) ; Ashuri, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Aluminum Bronzes have many applications in marine environments. These alloys suffer from both hot cracking and cold cracking. In order to overcome the hot cracking and cold cracking, Semisolid Stir Joining method and a proper thermal cycle was used respectively. Effects of temperature, stirring rate, and tool type were investigated in Semisolid Stir joining method. In this method, butt joint design was used in order to place specimens, and the specimens were heated up to specific temperatures (920, 925, 930°C). A stirrer (Cylindrical and Grooved tool) with three rotational speeds (800, 1200, 1600 RPM) was introduced into the stir weld seam. Welded specimens were cooled to the 900°C...
The Study of Eliminating Gender Gap in Iran Labor Market on Participation Rate of Married Urban Women
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rahmati, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor) ; Joshaghani, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
The low female labor force participation rate in the Iranian labor market relative to the global average and even to countries that do not differ significantly from the socio-economic characteristics of our country is one of the important questions of the Iranian labor market. In this study, we seek to answer the question of whether the economic participation rate of married women will increase if the gender gaps in wages, job findings and job losses among women and men are eliminated in the Iranian labor market. To answer this question using household expenditure and income data and labor force data, we show that between the two categories of occupations, in terms of the share of women's...
Graph homomorphisms through random walks [electronic resource]
, Article Journal of Graph Theory ; 2003, Volume 44, Issue 1, pages 15–38 ; Hajiabolhassan, Hossein ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In this paper we introduce some general necessary conditions for the existence of graph homomorphisms, which hold in both directed and undirected cases. Our method is a combination of Diaconis and Saloff–Coste comparison technique for Markov chains and a generalization of Haemers interlacing theorem. As some applications, we obtain a necessary condition for the spanning subgraph problem, which also provides a generalization of a theorem of Mohar (1992) as a necessary condition for Hamiltonicity. In particular, in the case that the range is a Cayley graph or an edge-transitive graph, we obtain theorems with a corollary about the existence of homomorphisms to cycles. This, specially, provides...
Unique list-colourability and the fixing chromatic number of graphs [electronic resource]
, Article Discrete Applied Mathematics ; Volume 152, Issues 1–3, 1 November 2005, Pages 123–138 ; Hajiabolhassan, Hossein ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In this paper we introduce a chromatic parameter, called the fixing chromatic number, which is related to unique colourability of graphs, in the sense that it measures how one can embed the given graph G in G∪Kt by adding edges between G and Kt to make the whole graph uniquely t-colourable. We study some basic properties of this parameter as well as its relationships to some other well-known chromatic numbers as the acyclic chromatic number. We compute the fixing chromatic number of some graph products by applying a modified version of the exponential graph construction
Circular colouring and algebraic no-homomorphism theorems
, Article European Journal of Combinatorics ; Volume 28, Issue 6, August 2007, Pages 1843–1853 ; Hajiabolhassan, Hossein ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In this paper, we apply some new algebraic no-homomorphism theorems in conjunction with some new chromatic parameters to estimate the circular chromatic number of graphs. To show the applicability of the general results, as a couple of examples, we generalize a well known inequality for the fractional chromatic number of graphs and we also show that the circular chromatic number of the graph obtained from the Petersen graph by excluding one vertex is equal to 3. Also, we focus on the Johnson–Holroyd–Stahl conjecture about the circular chromatic number of Kneser graphs and we propose an approach to this conjecture. In this regard, we introduce a new related conjecture on Kneser graphs and we...
Density and power graphs in graph homomorphism problem
, Article Discrete Mathematics ; Volume 308, Issue 17, 6 September 2008, Pages 4027–4030 ; Hajiabolhassan, Hossein ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
We introduce two necessary conditions for the existence of graph homomorphisms based on the concepts of density and power graph. As corollaries, we obtain a lower bound for the fractional chromatic number, and we set forward elementary proofs of the facts that the circular chromatic number of the Petersen graph is equal to three and the fact that the Coxeter graph is a core
Temperature dependence study of nonocontact AFM images using molecular dynamics simulations [electronic resource]
, Article Int. Journal of Modern Physics ; 2012, Vol. 5, pp. 418-432 ; Meghdar, Ali ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
The effect of temperature on the noncontact atomic force microscopy (NC-AFM) surface imaging is investigated with the aid of molecular dynamics (MD) analysis based on the Sutton-Chen (SC) interatomic potential. Particular attention is devoted to the tip and sample flexibility at different temperatures. When a gold coated probe is brought close to the Au (001) surface at high temperatures, the tip and surface atoms are pulled together and their distance becomes smaller. The tip and sample atoms displacement varies in the different environment temperatures and this leads to the different interaction forces. Along this line, to study the effect of temperature on the resulting images, we have...
Developing an Analytical Model for Predicting the Residual Stresses Induced by Shot Peening with Considering the Effect of Initial Surface Treatment
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Farrahi, Gholam Hossein (Supervisor) ; Mahmoudi, Amir Hossein (Co-Supervisor)
Abstract
Shot peening is a cold-working process commonly used in industry to improve the fatigue performance, stress corrosion resistance and surface nano-crystallization of metallic parts. This process extends fatigue life via two mechanisms: Preventing the crack growth due to compressive residual stresses and, preventing the crack initiation because of increased material hardness. These mechanisms are the results of the bombardment of the component's surface with small spherical particles. In this research, an analytical model is developed for estimating the residual stress distribution induced by shot peening process. The modifications of the developed analytical model are related to...
