Abstract
A biocompatible ferrofluid have been prepared by co-precipitation of FeCl2.4H2O and FeCl3.6H2O under ultrasonic irradiation and with NaOH as alkaline agent. Also cystein was used as capping agent in the solution. Magnetic properties of the produced ferrofluid then determined by VSM test and magnetite nanoparticles were characterized by XRD and TEM techniques. Results indicate the presence of a biocompatible superparamagnetic ferrofluid including magnetite nanoparticles with particle size ranging under 15 nm. The effect of ultrasonic irradiation on presence of a sharp particle size distribution then denoted by comparing the condition with production without ultrasonic irradiation
Three Dimensional Multi-Objective Terrain Following/Avoidance Optimization Using Heuristic Approach
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pourtakdoust, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Thus far, there has been a great attraction toward the optimal flight path planning problem. Terrain following/avoidance (TF/TA) flight is one of the most significant applications of this issue. To prevent from detection by the radars, fighter aircrafts, cruise missiles and helicopters often have to fly as close as possible to the surface during the operations. Such types of maneuvers are much more demanding and effortful than to be designed and implemented by human. The optimal TF/TA guidance system design comprises three phases: optimal path planning, closed-loop control system design for trajectory tracking and sensor blending to match the onboard and measured terrain data. So far, the...

Abstract
The short-term expansion planning of the private utilities, as well as the emerging technologies such as photovoltaic panels (PVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), cryptocurrency mining, and storage elements spread, make the long-term load estimation of distribution transformers (DTs) noticeably imprecise. In response, the number of overload and underload transformers is growing in recent years. The utilities normally analyse the loading of their DTs annually to determine the DTs, which should be replaced. It is a common practice for utilities to relocate these DTs to reduce the investment needed to purchase new transformers. Therefore, the utility needs a systematic algorithm to...

Abstract
Change in customers' consumption patterns due to the introduction of new electricity consuming technologies into human consumption practices has impacted the existing optimal loading profile of the grid facilities. Although some MV/LV distribution transformers (DTs) are operating under a light load profile, this does not guarantee that they are in a healthy condition, since necessary maintenance procedures are required. On the other hand, many unplanned overloading conditions occur on the other DTs and causes accelerated failures which contributes to very high operational costs. This paper presents the outcome of a study on how the planned DTs relocation can save asset managers against their...

The utilities normally analyze the loading of their DTs annually to determine the DTs, which should be replaced. The simplest, but expensive way is to substitute them with the newly purchased DTs. However, financial profit motivates the utilities to relocate in-service undersized and...

Abstract
The introduction of cryptocurrencies as a new form of money has attracted a tremendous amount of attention in recent years. This new financial paradigm relies on miners to validate transactions by running their cryptocurrency mining devices (CMDs). Nowadays, the significant profitability of the mining business has tempted a large number of private players in the electrical industry to employ their renewable energy resources to mine digital currency. Here, microgrid (MG) owners may use their excessive generated power to mine digital money instead of exporting it to the main grid. This paper is devoted to investigate the influential potentials of this trending business on distribution networks...

Abstract
In this work, we present the design and fabrication of a novel nanocomposite based on noble metal and metal oxide nanoparticles dispersed on highly porous carbon obtained via the pyrolysis of an inorganic complex and metal-organic frameworks. This nanocomposite is prepared by a two-step procedure: first, the composite support of nanoporous carbon (NPC) is obtained by the direct carbonization of the Cr-benzene dicarboxylic ligand (BDC) MOF in an Argon atmosphere at 500 °C (Cr2O3-NPC). A mixture containing Cr2O3-NPC and [PtCl(SnCl3)(SMe2)2] is then prepared, and underflow of Argon is heated to 380 °C. Finally, Pt-SnO2 nanoparticles are loaded on the Cr2O3-NPC support, and the obtained...

Abstract
Spacecraft rendezvous and docking are two processes in which a chaser pursues and meets a leader spacecraft in order to perform several mission based tasks. Although in some preliminary design analysis, these two operations may be pursued independently there could be circumstances in which the spacecraft trajectory and attitudes are coupled and interdependent. The present study is based on the presumption that the often independent translational and rotational motions of the spacecraft are coupled as a result of thrust misalignment. So the thrusters not only contribute to the rendezvous translational motion, but also affect the docking reorientation maneuver through their disturbing effects....

, Article Utilitas Mathematica Publishing Incorporated ; 2007, Vol. 72, pp. 163-174 ; Azimi, Parham ; Sharif University Of Technology
Abstract
Graceful labeling is one of the best known labeling methods of graphs. Despite the large number of papers published on the subject of graph labeling, there are few particular techniques to be used by researchers to gracefully label graphs. In this paper, first a new approach based on the mathematical programming technique is presented to model the graceful labeling problem. Then a “branching method” is developed to solve the problem for special classes of graphs. Computational results show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm for different classes of graphs. One of the interesting results of our model is in the class of trees. The largest tree known to be graceful has at most 27 vertices...

Abstract
In this work, high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) coupled with multivariate image analysis (MIA) is proposed as a fast and reliable tool for authentication and adulteration detection of Iranian saffron samples based on their HPTLC fingerprints. At first, the secondary metabolites of saffron were extracted using ultrasonic-assisted solvent extraction (UASE) which was optimized using central composite design (CCD). Next, the RGB coordinates of HPTLC images were used for estimation of saffron origin based on principal component analysis (PCA). The PCA scores plot showed that saffron samples were clustered into two clear-cut groups which was 92% matched with the geographical...

Abstract
In this study a more precise formulation of electrical capacitance for a cylindrical capacitive sensor is reported. By using different theoretical models such as Coulomb law, Gauss law and Laplace equation the electrical capacitance is calculated. Based on the given models the relation between the capacitance and the geometrical parameters (e.g., cylindrical length) is formulated and by using suitable software capacitance variation is computed and compared for different methods. In Coulomb method, the electrical potential is first solved numerically by using Mathematica and then the electrical capacitance is computed. It is found that the active capacitor length is crucial parameter in the...

Integrated Drilling Oprations Optimization
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jamshidi, Saeid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Drilling Operations constitute more than fifty percent of total costs of well construction operations. Due to this fact, optimization of drilling operations could have significant effect on decrease in total costs of well construction. It is mentioning worthy that there are a variety of parameters which affect drilling operations from the view point of optimization. In many cases several of those aforementioned parameters are contrary in nature. Thus obtaining an integrated approach to optimize the operation by considering these effects is necessity. The goal of this thesis is to investigate different influential parameters of drilling operation optimization and to develop computer-based...
Investigation of Dust Emission Paths Over Lake Urmia Local Dust Spots Using the HYSPLIT Model
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Tajrishy, Masoud (Supervisor)
Abstract
At Lake Urmia (LU) greatest extent, it was the largest lake in the Middle East and the sixth-largest saltwater lake on Earth, with a surface area of approximately 5,200 km2. The lake has shrunk to 10% of its former size due to damming of the rivers that flow into it, and the pumping of groundwater from the surrounding area. Moreover, as the lake shriks its potentional to be a major dust sources increases. A Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model was used to investigate and track the extent of dust emission and aerosol concentration over Lake Urmia marginal dust spots in order to identify the affected and critical areas. Also, percent movement, propagation...
