Investigation and Modeling of Polymer Electrolyte Membranes in PEM Fuel Cells
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Roshandel, Ramin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Fuel cells convert the chemical energy of hydrogen and oxygen directly into the electricity. Their high efficiency and low emissions have made them a prime candidate for powering the next generation electric vehicles. Polymer electrolyte membrane is a key component of the PEM fuel cells. One of the critical problems to overcome in some PEM fuel cells is the water management because If there is not enough water, the membrane becomes dehydrated which leads to a rapid increase in ohmic resistance. On the other hand, if too much water is present, flooding may occur resulting in the pores of the gas diffusion filled by water and the available passage for reactant gases is decreased. In this work...

Abstract
In this study, polypropylene/carbon nanotube nanocomposites were prepared via in situ polymerization using a bi-supported Ziegler-Natta catalytic system. In this system, magnesium ethoxide and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are jointly used as catalyst supports. SEM images reveal the distribution and quite good dispersion of MWCNTs throughout the polypropylene (PP) matrix. The thermal properties of the samples were examined using DSC and TGA tests. The results show that the crystallization temperature of the nanocomposites significantly increases while the melting point is not markedly affected. In addition, the thermal stability is improved. The melt rheological properties of PP/MWCNT...
Manufacturing and Investigating of Polypropylene/Silica Nanocomposites via in-situ Polymerization and Using Bi-supported Ziegler-Natta Catalyst
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ramezani Saadat, Ahmad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The main object of this thesis is production and investigation of polypropylene-fumed silica nanocomposites by using bi-supported Ziegler-natta catalytic system and in-situ polymerization. Magnesium ethoxide and fumed silica were used as supports of catalyst. TiCl4 was accompanied by triisobutyl aluminum(TiBA) and diisobutyl phthalate(DIBP) as electron doner constituting Ziegler-Natta catalytic system. Preparation of catalyst and polymerization were taken place in slurry phase under the argon atmosphere. At the beginning of the polymerization experiment, several type of nanocomposites were made under various conditions(such as different Al/Ti molar ratio) to find optimum condition to...

Abstract
We present the preparation of polypropylene (PP)/fumed silica (FS) nanocomposites via in situ polymerization in this article. The approach includes preparation and utilization of a bisupported Ziegler-Natta catalytic system in which magnesium ethoxide and FS are used as conjugate supports of the catalyst. Catalyst preparation and polymerization processes are carried out in the slurry phase and under argon atmosphere. Scanning electron microscopy images show a good dispersion of the FS throughout the PP matrix. Results from differential scanning calorimetry reveal that the crystallization temperature of prepared nanocomposites increases by increasing FS loading. Also, crystal content of...
