Blind Speech Separation using Sparse Component Analysis

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghasimi, Majid (Author) ; Babaei-Zadeh, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Separation of speech signals has many applications. For example, it is used human-machine communications. This problem can be divided into three categories: overdetermined, determined and underdetermined. If the number of mixtures is greater than the number of sources, the problem is called overdetermined; if it is equal to the number of sources, the problem is called determined and if it is less than the number of sources that problem is called underdetermined. This MS thesis studies the undertermined case. Moreover, speech signals are sparse in time-frequency domain, meaning that in each time-frequency point, usually only one source is active. So, for separatig the speech signals,the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghasimi, Mohsen (Author) ; Babaei Zadeh, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recent advances in Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technology, wireless communications, and digital electronics have enabled the development of low-cost, low-power,multifunctional sensor nodes that are small in size and communicate untethered in short distances.Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) including these sensors has been utilized in many applications, namely military and environmental applications. Due to unchangeable battery in most WSNs, Power consumption is an important challenge in such systems. A sensor node expends maximum energy in data communication. Control environmental parameter is among the most important applications of WSN. The actual physical environmental information...

    Algorithms for Sparse Channel Estimation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Daei Omshi, Sajjad (Author) ; Babaei Zadeh, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recently, there has been much interest in sparse channel estimation, i.e. recovering a channel which has much less non zero tabs than its length. These channels have been observed in underwater and broadband wireless channels. In the last few years methods available to estimate these channels have used sparse structure information to improve the estimates. However, these methods are vulnerable to noise and interference. In other words, these methods do not use channel posterior information obtained from the received signal and this is detrimental to the estimator performance. In order to solve these problems in this thesis, motivated by CoSAMP algorithm which is a sparse signal processing...

Matrix Completion, and Some of its Applications in Image Processing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghasemi, Hooshang (Author) ; Babaei-Zadeh, Masoud (Supervisor) ; Ashtiani, Farid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Consider a matrix that only few of its entries are known and we would like to exactly recover the matrix based on the revealed entries. More preciesly, a set of entities which had been selected uniformally are revealed. Is it possible to recover the whole of the matrix from few revealed entities? If the answer is yes, which algorithm could recover the matrix? It is clear that solving this problem is not generally possible because for any unknown entity we could map the matrix to infinity matrix which coinside the constrain of the revealed entities. But in most case of the applications, we involve with the matrix which are low-rank. Now, what about low-rank matrix? Recovery of the matrix from...

    , Article 2014 4th Joint Workshop on Hands-Free Speech Communication and Microphone Arrays, HSCMA 2014 ; 2014 , p. 32-36 Saeb, A ; Razzazi, F ; Babaei-Zadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
In this paper, a fast phoneme recognition system is introduced based on sparse representation. In this approach, the phoneme recognition is fulfilled by Viterbi decoding on support vector machines (SVM) output probability estimates. The candidate classes for classification are adaptively pruned by a k-dimensional (KD) tree search followed by a sparse representation (SR) based class selector with adaptive number of classes. We applied the proposed approach to introduce a phoneme recognition system and compared it with some well-known phoneme recognition systems according to accuracy and complexity issues. By this approach, we obtain competitive phoneme error rate with promising computational...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemi, Ali (Author) ; Nasiri-Kenari, Masoumeh (Supervisor) ; Babayi-Zadeh, Masoud (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, the Cognitive Radio Network has received significant attentions due to its high potential for better employment of the spectrum. One of the most important parts of this technology is the spectrum sensing that requires being fast and accurate. The conventional algorithms proposed so far encounter some fundamental challenges at low SNR regimes and in wideband sensing. On the other hand, the compressed sensing algorithms, which take advantages of the sparsity of the signal of interest and utilize measurements instead of the samples, can reduce the sampling rate and thus decrease the complexity associated with the wideband sensing. In this thesis, by exploiting the...

Traffic Source Particle Pollution Distribution Using Micro-scale Simulation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Babaei, Mahdi (Author) ; Hosseini, Vahid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today air pollution has become one of the major urban management concerns. Air pollution could have dangerous effects on human health in short time or long time in many situations. Numerical modelling is one of the most applicable among different ways for predicting pollutant concentration like field measurement, physical model in wind tunnel, and simulation. Modelling of pollutant dispersion is a way for estimating concentration and aggregation of the pollutant near the surface and with different distances from pollution source. In different dispersion models, one of simplest is the Gaussian model. In this approach it is supposed that emission plume obeys from Gaussian distribution and is...

Cryptanalysis of a Class of McEliece-like Code-Based Signature Schemes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Babaei, Ali (Author) ; Eghlidos, Taraneh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the advent of quantum computers, the security of cryptographic primitives, including digital signature schemes, has been compromised. Therefore, a kind of signature scheme has been introduced to resist these computers. These schemes are based on hard problems that have so far resisted against quantum computers, known as post-quantum schemes. One group of these schemes is based on the hard problems of coding theory, which are called code-based cryptographic schemes. The first code-based cryptosystem was the McEliece encryption scheme. A number of code-based signature schemes are based on the McEliece encryption scheme. Some of these schemes use three matrices including a non-singular...

Semantic-Communication-Oriented Transmission Policy in Random Access Environment

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Babaei, Alireza (Author) ; Ashtiani, Farid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
As the global demand for data has continued to increase exponentially, researchers have begun exploring the concept of semantic communication as an effective tool to meet this demand. Semantic communication transcends the boundaries of conventional telecommunication systems, focusing on the transmission as well as accurate retrieval of meaning at the source and destination, respectively, rather than transmitting and recovering merely symbols. One approach in semantic communication emphasizes the significance of information, rather than its meaning, to achieve efficient and goal-oriented communication. One key metric in goal-oriented communication is the Age of Information (AoI). AoI is a...

Probabilistic tolerance analysis of compliant assemblies

    , Article 2007 World Congress, Detroit, MI, 16 April 2007 through 19 April 2007 ; 2007 ; 01487191 (ISSN) Babaei, E ; Movahhedy, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    SAE International  2007
    Abstract
Tolerance analysis is essential for estimation of final error of key product characteristic (KPC) in a mechanical assembly caused by errors in production and assembly of individual parts. Many mechanical assemblies, especially in automotive and aerospace industries, include sheet metal parts with a small ratio of thickness to width or length. Such parts are substantially flexible and thus, are prone to large errors due to elastic deformations during assembly production. Phenomena such as deformation due to fixture force, spring back, welding distortion and so on are common to such parts. Unlike tolerance analysis of rigid parts, here, the elastic deformation of the parts plays a significant...

Fabrication and Characterization of Nickel-Cobalt Catalyst by One-pot Combustion Synthesis Method for Synthesis Gas Production in Dry Reforming Methane Process

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Babaei, Mojtaba (Author) ; Sadrnezhad, Khatiboleslam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Dry reforming methane is a process during which two greenhouse gases, CH4 and CO2, using Ni-based catalysts, are altered into valuable H2 and CO gases, which are very useful from an economic and environmental point of view. The main problem with Ni-based catalysts is the formation of carbon in the dry methane reforming, which leads to rapid deactivation of the catalyst. In this research, a 10Ni-5Co/Al2O3 bimetallic catalyst was prepared by one-pot microwave-assisted combustion synthesis with a stoichiometric amount of fuel (urea) and without the use of additives. The catalyst was then calcined for 12 h at 550oC. The structure, chemical composition, particle distribution, and morphology of...

    2014
    Abstract
CdS nanocrystals were thermochemically (thermally activated) synthesized thorough the reaction between CdSO4 and Na2S 2O3 in an aqueous solution. Thioglycolic Acid (TGA) was used as the capping agent and catalyst of the reaction. The method was based on heat activated dissociation of Na2S2O3 and controllable release of S and free electrons in the solution. CdS NCs were formed by heating the sample solution at 96 C for 1 h. The results of optical spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy demonstrated round shape NCs with sizes about 3.0 nm. The nanocrystals were also luminescent and represented a broad emission with a peak located at 515 nm and FWHM of 160 nm. Several samples were...
