Design and Synthesis of a Drug Delivery System Based on Mesoporous Bioactive Glass
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abdekhodaie, Mohammad Jafar (Supervisor)
Abstract
The aim of this research is to develop a smart mesoporous bioactive glass-based carrier for targeted drug delivery to cancer cells, particularly bone cancer cells. To achieve this, mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles were first synthesized, followed by surface modification with amine groups. To prevent premature drug release before reaching the target tissue and to introduce pH sensitivity, the nanoparticle pores were coated with oxidized hyaluronic acid via Schiff-base bonding with the amine groups on the surface. The use of hyaluronic acid facilitates active targeting of CD44 receptors, which are overexpressed on the surface of cancer cells compared to healthy cells. This process...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Dolati, Abolghasem (Supervisor) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The present work describes sensing application of modified Pt nanostructures towards detection of glucose. Modified Pt nanostructured electrodes were prepared using electrodeposition method such as chronoampermetry and potentiostatic pulse methods. The electrodeposition of Pt nanostructures was first studied by voltammetry and amperommetry techniques and then potentiostatic pulse method has been used to produce the alloyed structures of platinum. In this regard, the first electrode was proposed based on alloyed Pt/Ni nanowire arrays (NWAs) for the non-enzymatic detection of glucose. The Pt/Ni NWAs were prepared by pulse electrodeposition of Pt and Ni within a nano-pore polycarbonate (PC)...
Quantum Estimation of Open Systems Using Extended Cramer-Rao Bounds
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rezakhani, Ali (Supervisor) ; Alipour, Sahar (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Any physical system is characterized with some set of quantities or parameters, knowing which, is equivalent to estimation of the system. Evaluating such parameters is usually done using tomography methods. An important question to ask, is how to increase the precision of measurement, being able to do some specific set of physical operations, say, measurement?
this question is more important in parameter estimation in quantum meanical systems. It has been shown that, quantum meanics causes a fundamental limit, on precision of estimating su parameters, escribed by the so called “antum Cramér-Rao bound”.We must note that almost all quantum meanical systems are interacting with the...

Abstract
Free vibration response of a joined shell system including cylindrical and spherical shells is analyzed in this research. It is assumed that the system of joined shell is made from a functionally graded material (FGM). Properties of the shells are assumed to be graded through the thickness. Both shells are unified in thickness. To capture the effects of through-the-thickness shear deformations and rotary inertias, first-order shear deformation theory of shells is used. The Donnell type of kinematic assumptions is adopted to establish the general equations of motion and the associated boundary and continuity conditions with the aid of Hamilton’s principle. The resulting system of equations is...

Abstract
We show that a metal-organic framework (MOF) sustained by a nanosized Ag12 cuboctahedral node can be applied to selectively extract traces of lead(II) ion from environmental water samples. The MOF was characterized by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy, FTIR, and X-ray diffraction. The effects of pH value, flow rates, of type, concentration and volume of the eluent, of break-through volume and potentially interfering ions on the separation and determination of lead were evaluated. Following desorption with EDTA, Pb(II) was quantified by FAAS. The use of the MOF results in excellent analytical figures of merit including an analytical range from 2...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Haj Sadeghi, Khosrow (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Cerebrovascular Attack has been ranked the second or third of top 10 death causes in Taiwan. It has caused about 13,000 deaths every year since 1986. Once Cerebrovascular Attack (CVA) occurs, it not only leads to the huge cost of medical care, but even death. All developed countries in the world put CVA prevention and treatment in high priority. However, it is necessary to build a detective model to enhance the accurate diagnosis of CVA. From this detective model, CVA classification rules were extracted and used to improve the diagnosis and detection of CVA. This study acquired 2449 valid samples from this CVA prevention and treatment program, and adopted three classification algorithms,...

, Article Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A ; Auguest 2014, Vol. 102, Issue 8, P.2625-35 ; Simchi, A. (Abdolreza) ; Bagheri, R ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Surface modification of orthopedic implants using titanium dioxide nanotubes and silver nanoparticles (SNs) is a promising approach to prevent bacteria adhesion, biofilm formation, and implant infection. Herein, we utilized a straightforward and all-solution process to prepare silver-decorated TiO2 nanotube arrays with surface density of 10(3) to 10(4) per µm(2). With controlling the synthesis conditions, hexagonal closed-packed nanotubes with opening diameter of 30-100 nm that are decorated with SNs with varying sizes (12-40 nm) were prepared. Various analytical techniques were utilized to characterize the size, morphology, distribution, valance state, surface roughness, and composition of...

Abstract
A rapid, convenient and reliable method for microextraction in packed syringe (MEPS) of the loop diuretic furosemide (FUR) in urine along with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was developed. A nanocomposite based on silver nanoparticles/polyaniline (Ag-NPs/PANI) was synthesized and used as the MEPS packing material. This nanocomposite was prepared conveniently using interfacial polymerization without the need for any templates or functional dopants. The feasibility of the synthesized nanocomposites was examined by isolation of FUR from diluted urine samples. After extraction, the analyte was desorbed by 200 μL of methanol. It was then dried and the residue was dissolved in 30 μL...

Abstract
A novel method based on microextraction in packed syringe (MEPS), as a sample preparation technique in combination with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was developed using a polypyrrole (PPy) nanowires network as the extracting medium. The PPy nanowires network was prepared using a soft template technique and its characterization was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The use of micelles in this methodology has an important role in the shape of the growing polymer. The pyrrole monomer was introduced into cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) micelles and this has led to the formation of nanowires with diameters ranging from 30 to 60 nm. The bulk PPy prepared without...

Abstract
In recent years, improving oil recovery (IOR) has become an important subject for the petroleum industry. One IOR method is infill drilling, which improves hydrocarbon recovery from virgin zones of the reservoir. Determining the appropriate location for the infill wells is very challenging and greatly depends on different factors such as the reservoir heterogeneity. This study aims to investigate the effect of reservoir heterogeneity on the location of infill well. In order to characterize the effect of heterogeneity on infill well locations, some geostatistical methods, e.g., sequential gaussian simulation, have been applied to generate various heterogeneity models. In particular, different...
