, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Vosoughi, Naser (Supervisor) ; Movafeghi, Amir (Co-Advisor) ; Yahagi, Effat (Supervisor)
Abstract
Cesium-137 is one of the more important radionuclides in the environment because it is relatively abundant, it has a moderately long half-life (~30 y), its decay produces highly penetrating gamma radiation in addition to beta particles, and its biogeochemical properties allow it to move readily through food chains. It is a radioactive isotope of cesium which is formed as one of the more common fission product by the nuclear fission of uranium-235 and other fissionable isotopes in nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons.
In this reseach a model is introduced that could simulate a nuclear accident, its distribution into air, deposition into soil and absorption by plant. Nuclear accident and...

Abstract
Over the past few years, rapid advances in wireless broadband networks have been driving the evolution of communication and network technologies towards new mobile services for users. Handover management is still one of the most challenging issues to be solved for seamless mobility in wireless networks. To support mobility on terminal stations mobile WiMAX has been standardized. Moreover to provide seamless communications for such network Fast Mobile IPv6 (FMIPv6) has been proposed by IETF. But for seamless handover, collaboration of layer 2 and layer 3 is required. Thus, there is a requirement for cross-layering design to support proper behavior of the MIPv6 nodes in WiMAX networks. In this...

Abstract
In this paper, the development of a controller for autonomous lateral alignment of fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with runway centerline in landing phase is presented. Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC) is used in order to enable the vehicle to mimic the decision making procedure that a pilot follow in the same situation. Also, for longitudinal motion controller design for the UAV to follow a pre-defined trajectory, the pole-placement technique is used. It is assumed that the runway relative position and orientation are provided by a built in vision system and its associated image processing unit. The performance of the controller in the presence of the Gaussian noises is investigated by...

, Article 2009 International Conference on Electric Power and Energy Conversion Systems, EPECS 2009, Sharjah, 10 November 2009 through 12 November 2009 ; 2009 ; 9789948427155 (ISBN) ; Mokhtari, H ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
This paper proposes a high performance voltage tracking and current sharing among parallel connected inverters by applying optimal control and minimizing the cost function. The control system forces the voltage of load to track the voltage reference, and the current of all inverters becomes equal. Therefore, both current sharing and voltage tracking are obtained. In addition, the smallest input energy and simplicity in control circuit are the other advantages of the suggested method. To show the performance of the proposed control scheme, the simulations with two-modular practical systems are performed and the results are provided. The results indicate that the control objectives are...
Seismic Response of “Karroon III” DAM to Non-Uniform Ground Motions
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghaemian, Mohsen (Supervisor)
Abstract
Usually in analysis of arch dams, applied seismic motions on dam-foundation interface are assumed to be uniform. This is while that recorded motions show non-uniform accelerations in dam-foundation interface. Analyzing of the dam under this non-uniform accelerations we can find the importance of this assumption in analysis of arch dams. Two earthquakes were excited “KAROON III” dam at 20.11.2007 and 21.11.2007. The respective motions were recorded by the array of accelerometers that has been installed on the dam. The recorded motions, indicated non-uniformity of excitations in accelerometers were installed near the dam-foundation interface. Therefore this data provided an opportunity to...

Abstract
In this thesis, scheduling of surgery rooms is investigated and the objective is minimizing total patient’s departure time from the ward room in a flexible flow shop manner. Here, some constraints like the capacity of recovery rooms, no-wait motion between the rooms and machine eligibility restrictions ( , Σ ) are considered. For solving this problem,we proposed two mixed integer linear programming models for the research problem. Since the research problem is shown to be NP-complete, we developed several algorithm based on Tabu Search (TS) to heuristically solve it. In TS algorithm two different methods and one neighborhood structures are applied to generate initial solution and...

Abstract
Recorded ground accelerations at various locations of Karun III Dam during November 20, 2007, were recorded by an array of accelerometers located on the dam. In terms of amplitude and phase, these accelerations show non-uniformities in different elevations. In this paper, the effect of these non-uniform ground motions on the seismic response of the dam taking dam-reservoir-foundation interaction into account is investigated. The EACD-3D-2008 finite element program and ABAQUS Software are used for carrying out the seismic analyses. For this purpose, time histories of the earthquake accelerations are interpolated at nodal points located on the dam foundation interface. The analysis has been...

Abstract
Thermal analysis of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) dams is generally carried out considering identical ambient boundary conditions at upstream and downstream faces. For the case of Shahri-Kor Dam (an RCC dam with a height of 57 m), recorded thermal data depicts a considerable difference between upstream and downstream ambient temperatures, especially during cold months. This paper investigates how taking this difference into account can affect the thermal response of the dam. For this purpose, two thermal analyses are carried out with and without consideration of these different ambient boundary conditions (DABC). Consequently, the computed temperatures at representative points are compared...

Moreover, hardware-oriented enhancements have also emerged, including the utilization of approximate circuits and approximate calculations within neural network...
Optimal Control of Switched Systems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahdavi-Amiri, Nezam (Supervisor)
Abstract
We consider the problem of optimal control of switched systems. In order to solve this problem, by using the Lagrange interpolation, we transform it into an equivalent nonlocal optimal control problem, and then by applying several conditions we transform it into a moment problem. This way, a nonlinear and non-convex optimal control problem is converted to an equivalent optimal control problem with linear and convex structure, which allows us to obtain an equivalent convex formulation of the problem. So we obtain an approximation of the unknown function by using the Lagrange interpolation, and an approximation of the integral term by using the trapezoidal method. Finally, we solve the problem...

Abstract
Free vibration response of a joined shell system including cylindrical and spherical shells is analyzed in this research. It is assumed that the system of joined shell is made from a functionally graded material (FGM). Properties of the shells are assumed to be graded through the thickness. Both shells are unified in thickness. To capture the effects of through-the-thickness shear deformations and rotary inertias, first-order shear deformation theory of shells is used. The Donnell type of kinematic assumptions is adopted to establish the general equations of motion and the associated boundary and continuity conditions with the aid of Hamilton’s principle. The resulting system of equations is...

Abstract
We show that a metal-organic framework (MOF) sustained by a nanosized Ag12 cuboctahedral node can be applied to selectively extract traces of lead(II) ion from environmental water samples. The MOF was characterized by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy, FTIR, and X-ray diffraction. The effects of pH value, flow rates, of type, concentration and volume of the eluent, of break-through volume and potentially interfering ions on the separation and determination of lead were evaluated. Following desorption with EDTA, Pb(II) was quantified by FAAS. The use of the MOF results in excellent analytical figures of merit including an analytical range from 2...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Haj Sadeghi, Khosrow (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
Cerebrovascular Attack has been ranked the second or third of top 10 death causes in Taiwan. It has caused about 13,000 deaths every year since 1986. Once Cerebrovascular Attack (CVA) occurs, it not only leads to the huge cost of medical care, but even death. All developed countries in the world put CVA prevention and treatment in high priority. However, it is necessary to build a detective model to enhance the accurate diagnosis of CVA. From this detective model, CVA classification rules were extracted and used to improve the diagnosis and detection of CVA. This study acquired 2449 valid samples from this CVA prevention and treatment program, and adopted three classification algorithms,...
