    Abstract
Phase behavior of active crude oil/alkaline was systematically studied in the presence of cosolvents. For this purpose, several factors have been considered: alkaline concentration, oil concentration, and type of brine. The best composition was used to generate emulsion for rheology and displacement tests. Furthermore, precipitation of alkaline was eliminated by its synergy with EDTA. Next, rheology of emulsion was analyzed by which a Power law model was developed that indicates non-Newtonian behavior of emulsion. Moreover, the viscosity of emulsion was reduced by the addition of cosolvent as well as by the increase of alkaline concentration. Finally, the best formulation (containing...

    Abstract
Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI) are an important concept of biomedical engineering because of their ability to improve life conditions for people with different disabilities. Lots of studies have worked on important characteristics of BCI systems, such as speed and accuracy, whereas price is an important aspect too. Thus, a low cost BCI system with high accuracy clearly can help more people. Our purpose in this study is to design a P300 based BCI system using a low-priced EEG headset which has an acceptable accuracy. Our final design got a mean real-time accuracy of 93.3% which is comparable to systems with much more expensive hardware. © 2019 IEEE

    Abstract
This paper presents a novel opposition-based self-adaptive modified gravitational search algorithm (OSAMGSA) for optimal reactive power dispatch and voltage control in power-system operation. The problem is formulated as a mixed integer, nonlinear optimization problem, which has both continuous and discrete control variables. In order to achieve the optimal value of loss, voltage deviation, and voltage stability index, it is necessary to find the optimal value of control variables such as the tap positions of tap changing transformers, generator voltages, and compensation capacitor. Therefore, this complicated problem needs to be solved by an accurate optimization algorithm. This paper...

    Abstract
The present study considers the free vibration analysis of moderately thick conical shells based on the Novozhilov theory. The higher order governing equations of motion and the associate boundary conditions are obtained for the first time. Using the Frobenius method, exact base solutions are obtained in the form of power series via general recursive relations which can be applied for any arbitrary boundary conditions. The obtained results are compared with the literature and very good agreement (up to 4%) is achieved. A comprehensive parametric study is performed to provide an insight into the variation of the natural frequencies with respect to thickness, semivertex angle, circumferential...

    Abstract
In this paper the free vibration of single walled carbon nanopeapods encapsulating C60 molecules is considered. The nanopeapod is embedded in an elastic medium and clamped at both ends. The Euler-Bernoulli beam model is used for the carbon nanotube and the C60 molecules are considered as lumped masses attached to the beam. Based on the nonlocal elasticity theory the governing equation of motion is derived and the resonance frequencies of the nanopeapod are obtained. The effects of small scale, foundation stiffness and ratio of the fullerenes' mass to the nanotube's mass on the frequencies are studied and some conclusions are drawn

    Abstract
In this paper we present a general formalism for the establishment and mean-square performance analysis of the family of selective partial update affine projection (SPU-AP), selective regressor affine projection (SR-AP), and selective partial update subband adaptive filter (SPU-SAF) algorithms. This analysis is based on energy conservation arguments and does not need to assume a Gaussian or white distribution for the regressors. We demonstrate through simulations that the results are useful in predicting the performance of these adaptive filter algorithms

    Abstract
Motif discovery is a challenging problem in molecular biology and has been attracting researcher's attention for years. Different kind of data and computational methods have been used to unravel this problem, but there is still room for improvement. In this study, our goal was to develop a method with the ability to identify all the TFBS signals, including known and unknown, inside the input set of sequences. We developed a clustering method specialized as part of our algorithm which outperforms other existing clustering methods such as DNACLUST and CD-HIT-EST in clustering short sequences. A scoring system was needed to determine how much a cluster is close to being a real motif. Multiple...

    Abstract
Sloshing, or liquid free surface oscillation, in containers has many important applications in a variety of engineering fields. The modal method can be used to solve linear sloshing problems and is the most efficient reduced order method that has been used during the previous decade. In the present article, the modal method is used to solve a nonlinear sloshing problem. The method is based on a potential flow solution that implements a two-phase analysis on sloshing in a rectangular container. According to this method, the solution to the mass conservation equation, with a nonpenetration condition at the tank walls, results in velocity potential expansion; this is similar to the mode shapes...

    Abstract
A nonlocal continuum shell model is developed to study the stability of nanocones under combined loading: external pressure and compression force. The nonlinear governing equations of motion of nanocone are obtained using Hamiltons principle and the external loads are considered as prestress. Based on Eringens nonlocal elasticity theory the small-scale effect is accounted in the governing equations of motion. To obtain the critical loads, the equations are solved using Galerkin technique and the effect of small-scale parameter and geometry on the stability of nanocone is studied

    Abstract
The present paper describes a set of procedures for the solution of nonlinear equilibrium problems in complex multibody systems. To find the equilibrium position of the system, six different optimization algorithms are used to minimize the total potential energy (TPE) of the system and compared with respect to accuracy and efficiency. A computer program is developed to evaluate the equality constraints and objective function of a general multibody dynamic system to find the equilibrium condition. It is seen that the indirect methods have better results and converge faster. Also it is shown that the genetic algorithm (GA) results in a global optimum while the other methods converge to a local...

Effect of liquid viscosity on instability of high-spinning partially-filled shell rotors

    , Article International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics ; Volume 13, Issue 6 , 2013 ; 02194554 (ISSN) Firouz Abadi, R. D ; Permoon, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study, the instability of spinning cylindrical shells partially filled with viscous liquid is investigated. Based on the Navier-Stokes equations for the incompressible flow, a 2D model is developed for liquid motion at each section of the cylinder. The governing equations of the cylinder vibrations are obtained based on the first-order shear deformable shell theory. The nonpenetration and no-slip boundary conditions of the flow on the wetted surface of the cylinder relate the liquid motion to the shell vibrations. Also the liquid pressure exerted on the cylinder wall combines the vibrations of the rotary cylinder to the liquid motion. By using the obtained coupled liquid-structure...
