Abstract
Elevated levels of nitrate (NO3) in groundwater systems pose a serious risk to human populations and natural ecosystems. As part of an effort to remediate NO3 contamination in irrigated stream-aquifer systems, this study elucidates agricultural and environmental parameters and processes that govern NO3 fate and transport at the regional (500 km2), local (50 km2), and field scales (<1 km2). Specifically, the revised Morris sensitivity analysis method was applied to a finite-difference nitrogen cycling and reactive transport model of a regional-scale study site in the lower Arkansas River valley in southeastern Colorado. The method was used to rank the influence of anthropogenic activities and...

Abstract
We leverage the crucial hyperelastic properties of a multifunctional structured surface to optimize the reconfigurability of the electromagnetic transmission under large nonlinear mechanical deformations. This multiphysics, multifunctional, hyperelastic structured surface (HSS) offers two simultaneous intriguing functionalities; tunability and switchability. It is made of copper reso-nators and a Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate, which is one of the most favorable deformable substrates due to its hyperelastic behavior. The proposed HSS is fabricated via an original cost-effective technique and the multiphysics functionalities are captured in both experimental tests and numerical...
Rubber-toughened epoxies: A critical review
, Article Polymer Reviews ; Volume 49, Issue 3 , 2009 , Pages 201-225 ; 15583724 (ISSN) ; Marouf, B. T ; Pearson, R. A
2009
Abstract
Epoxy resins have been used as structural materials since the late 1940s. Despite their desirable properties such as high strength, excellent creep resistance, and good adhesion, they suffer from low fracture energy. Rubber modification as a major toughening approach to overcome the inherent brittleness of epoxy polymers was introduced during the early 1970s. Since then, a large number of investigations have been conducted to elucidate different aspects of rubber-toughened epoxies. The present work is a critical review of the field focusing on the important parameters affecting rubber-toughening. The studies reviewed are classified in five categories including roles of matrix ductility,...

Abstract
Partial discharge (PD) measurement and identification have great importance to condition monitoring of power transformers. In this paper a new method for recognition of single and multi-source of PD based on extraction of high level image features have been introduced. A database, involving 365 samples of phase-resolved PD (PRPD) data, is developed by measurement carried out on transformer artificial defect models (having different sizes of defect) under a specific applied voltage, to be used for proposed algorithm validation. In the first step, each set of PRPD data is converted into grayscale images to represent different PD defects. Two “image feature extraction” methods, the Local Binary...

Abstract
Transformers are the key component in power system transmission and distribution networks. Condition-based maintenance will increase their expected life, and online monitoring is essential to ensure operation reliability. In this paper, a new approach to transformer online monitoring is provided based on partial discharge (PD) measurement. Simultaneous measurements of PD using IEC60270 and radio frequency (RF) techniques are employed to explore new features that can be used to distinguish between internal PDs and external interference, as well as among different internal PD sources. Stream clustering based on the density grid method with only a few features required is used to categorize...

Abstract
Let n≥2 be an integer. The graph G(n) is obtained by letting all the elements of {0,…,n−1} to be the vertices and defining distinct vertices x and y to be adjacent if and only if gcd(x+y,n)=1. In this paper, well-coveredness, Cohen–Macaulayness, vertex-decomposability and Gorensteinness of these graphs and their complements are characterized. These characterizations provide large classes of Cohen–Macaulay and non Cohen–Macaulay graphs. © 2021 Elsevier B.V

Abstract
Detection and location of any partial discharge signal requires an accurate frequency dependent cable model to correctly simulate the P.D. signal attenuation during its propagation in the cable. This model should be capable of simulating the semiconducting layers which have significant effects on P.D. signal attenuation and its propagation velocity. There is a substantial need for improvements in the flexibility of transient cable model through direct introduction of the two semiconducting layers in the cable model. This can be employed, in the next step to develop a 3 phase cable model for ATP. This paper has derived an impedance formula for the semiconducting layers. The propagation...

Abstract
Online monitoring of HV XLPE cables is a major interest for utilities. Due to severe and rapid risk of life of this type of cable with occurrence of partial discharges, studies are carried out for detection and location of PD. However there is a lack of models that can help to accurately detect the partial discharge and its location in installed cables, due to the relatively long length and the load condition of cable. Detection and location of any partial discharge signal requires: A verified knowledge of phenomena which contributes to P.D. propagation and its deformation, measured data of P.D. type signal propagation on different cable test setups, accurate frequency dependent cable model...
Efficient multistage secret sharing scheme using bilinear map

Abstract
In a multistage secret sharing (MSSS) scheme, the authorised subsets of participants could recover a number of secrets in different stages. A one-stage multisecret sharing (OSMSS) scheme is a special case of MSSS schemes in which all the secrets are recovered simultaneously. In these schemes, in addition to the individual shares, the dealer should provide the participants with a number of public values associated with the secrets. The less the number of public values, the more efficient is the scheme. It is desired that the MSSS and OSMSS schemes provide computational security. In this study, the authors show that in the OSMSS schemes any unauthorised coalition of the participants can reduce...

Abstract
Reviewing the various Partial Discharges (PD data mining researches which have been reported so far, this study compares the performance of different feature spaces and different classifiers employed for PD classification in insulation condition monitoring of power transformers. In this process, first a knowledge basis is developed through construction of 4 different types of PD models in the high voltage laboratory. Background noise is considered as one class in this knowledge basis. The high frequency time domain current signals of high voltage equipment are captured over one power frequency cycle. The single PD activities within this captured signal are extracted by application of a...

Abstract
Suggestion and application of a set of new features for on-line Partial Discharge (PD) monitoring, where there is no information about the type of PD is a challenging task for condition assessment of power equipments, such as a power transformer. This is looked for in this paper. So far, in past various techniques have been employed to develop a comprehensive PD monitoring system, however limited success has been achieved. One of the challenging issues in this field is the discovering of proper features capable of differentiating the involvement of possible types of PD sources. In order to examine the efficiency of the method established in this paper, which is based on application of a set...

Abstract
Transferring large models in federated learning (FL) networks is often hindered by clients' limited bandwidth. We propose $ extsf {FedAA}$ , an FL algorithm which achieves fast convergence by exploiting the regularized Anderson acceleration (AA) on the global level. First, we demonstrate that FL can benefit from acceleration methods in numerical analysis. Second, $ extsf {FedAA}$ improves the convergence rate for quadratic losses and improves the empirical performance for smooth and strongly convex objectives, compared to FedAvg, an FL algorithm using gradient descent (GD) local updates. Experimental results demonstrate that employing AA can significantly improve the performance of FedAvg,...

The effect of gusset plate in moment-rotation behavior of double-web angle connection in braced frames
, Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 24, Issue 6 , 2017 , Pages 2712-2725 ; 10263098 (ISSN) ; Wayghan, A. R. T ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Double-web angle connection is one of the most rudimentary connections in simple structural systems such as braced frame system. It is essentially presumed in conventional designs that double-web angle connection behaves as a hinge connection. However, in braced frames, due to existence of braces in some bays, in specified locations where gusset plates of brace are placed with beam-to-column connection in one joint, this assumption may not be accurate. This is due to the restraining of the beam from rotation by gusset plates that are placed either on the top and bottom of the beam or only on one side. In such cases, the simple beam-to-column connection may be transformed into a semi-hinge or...

Abstract
Secret sharing is a cryptographic technique used in many different applications such as cloud computing, multi-party computation and electronic voting. Security concerns in these applications are data privacy, availability, integrity and verifiability, where secret sharing provides proper solutions. The authors address some important features like verifiability and being multi-stage to make it usable in various field of application. Here, the authors propose an anonymous threshold signature scheme based on the trapdoor function introduced by Micciancio and Peikert by sharing the private key using a lattice-based threshold multi-stage secret sharing (TMSSS) scheme. Then, the authors improve...

Abstract
Power transformer monitoring as a reliable tool for maintaining purposes of this valuable asset of power systems has always comprised partial discharge offline measurements and online monitoring. The reason lies in non-destructive feature of PD monitoring. Partial discharge monitoring helps to detect incipient insulation faults and prevent insulation failure of power transformers. This paper introduces a software package developed based on structural data of power transformer and discusses the results of the simulation on Abetti winding, which might be considered as a basic layer winding. A hybrid model is used to model the transformer winding, which has been developed by first author....

Abstract
The effect of an efficient biosurfactant produced from Pseudomonas aeroginosa MR01, a bacterial strain isolated from oil excavation areas in southern Iran, on the recovery of residual oil trapped within carbonate rocks, was investigated. In a core holder set-up, bearing a number of limestone-and dolomite-containing core samples, biosurfactant flooding resulted in oil recoveries as large as 20% to 28% Residual Oil (R.O). Biosurfactant injection in less permeable rocks in a range of 0.5 to 32 md was more successful, in terms of oil production. In the case of the least oil recovery via biosurfactant flooding, incubation of the core with a biosurfactant solution at reservoir conditions,...

Abstract
In this paper we propose a neuro-fuzzy architecture for Web content taxonomy using hybrid of Adaptive Resonance Theory (ART) neural networks and fuzzy logic concept. The search engine called Kavosh1 is equipped with unsupervised neural networks for dynamic data clustering. This model was designed for retrieving images without metadata and in estimating resemblance of multimedia documents; however, in this work only text mining method is implemented. Results show noticeable average precision and recall over search results. © 2007 IEEE
