Abstract
Recently it was shown that the differential form of Eringen’s nonlocal elastic theory is unable to model, predict and track the mechanical behaviors of many nano-structures due to their boundary conditions. Therefore, having an accurate model for formulating such structures became an important issue. With respect to this concern, in this study, the influence of having an axially varying elastic environment on vibrational behavior of nanobeams is investigated for the first time. Size-dependent effects are modeled using Eringen’s two-phase local/nonlocal integral model which is well-posed with higher accuracy. The elastic environment is modeled using the Pasternak-Winkler method which could...

Abstract
One of the main concerns of automakers over last few decades was reducing fuel consumption while increasing the efficiency of vehicle. Using Continously variable transmission in vehicles could lead to reaching better performance, improving fuel consumption, reducing emissions and increasing vehicle acceleration. In this thesis types of Continously variable transmissions are introduced with focusing on steel V-belt CVT by analyzing its performance in steady and transient conditions. Unlike flat belts, V-belts moves both radial and tangential over the driver and driven pulleys resulting more complex dynamic. The dynamics of these systems in transient conditions are analyzed in two different...

Abstract
In [20] Kraj´ıˇcek and Pudl´ak discovered connections between problems in computational complexity and the lengths of first-order proofs of finite consistency statements. Later Pudl´ak [25] studied more statements that connect provability with computational complexity and conjectured that they are true. All these conjectures are at least as strong as P ̸= NP [23, 25, 24]. One of the problems concerning these conjectures is to find out how tightly they are connected with statements about computational complexity classes. Results of this kind had been proved in [20, 22]. In this paper, we generalize and strengthen these results. Another question that we address concerns the dependence between...

Abstract
In this thesis, we study proof complexity conjectures and also introduce their mathematical logic equivalents in terms of provability and unprovability in strong enough first-order arithmetical theories. One of the most important conjectures in this theory is the following conjecture. The non-existence of an optimal proof system for propositional tautologies: In general, a proof system is a computable function in polynomial time such that its range is exactly the set of tautologies. We say proof system P, polynomially simulates proof system Q if and only if there exists a polynomial h such that for all tautologies such as A and for all proofs like a, if Qpaq A, then there exists a proof...

Abstract
The objective of this study is to develop analytical fragility curves for an ensemble of existing 3-to 6-story residential steel buildings with concentrically braced frames in 2 directions, designed during 2010 to 2015 in Qazvin, Iran. The buildings were modeled three-dimensionally in OpenSees considering braces buckling behavior. Maximum Inter-story Drift Ratio (.MIDR) and spectral acceleration at. fundamental period of the structure with 5% viscous damping (Sa(7,5%)) were considered as Damage Index (DI) and Intensity Measure (/M), respectively. Limit states were specified as discussed in FEMA 356. Ground motion record selection and uncertainties assessment were carried out based on FEMA...

One-to-one and one-to-many node-disjoint routing algorithms for WK-recursive networks
, Article Proceedings of the International Symposium on Parallel Architectures, Algorithms and Networks, I-SPAN, 7 May 2008 through 9 May 2008, Sydney, NSW ; 2008 , Pages 227-232 ; 9780769531250 (ISBN) ; Sarbazi Azad, H ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Recently, routing with disjoint paths has received much attention to provide more performance and fault tolerance. On the other hand, WK-recursive mesh network has been studied extensively due to its favorable properties such as high degree of stability and resilience. The connectivity of a network is an important measure of fault tolerance, while the diameter represents the worst-case transmission delay between two arbitrary nodes. In this paper, we propose one-to-one and one-to-many disjoint routings mechanisms for WK-recursive mesh networks to further exhibit the performance and fault tolerance of such networks. © 2008 IEEE

Abstract
The WK-recursive mesh and WK-pyramid networks are recursively-defined hierarchical interconnection networks with excellent properties which well idealize them as alternatives for mesh and traditional pyramid interconnection topologies. They have received much attention due to their favorable attributes such as small diameter, large connectivity, and high degree of scalability and expandability. In this paper, we deal with packagibility and layout area of these networks. These properties are of great importance in the implementation of interconnection networks on chips. We show that WK-recursive, mesh-pyramid and WK-pyramid networks can be laid out in an area of O(N2) which is the optimal...

Abstract
The interconnection network between the processor cores in multiprocessors on chip has a crucial impact on the performance. Efficient VLSI layout area of such networks can result in lower costs and better performance. Layouts with more compact area can lead in shorter wires and therefore the signal propagation through the wires may take place in shorter time. In this paper, we study the VLSI layout bounds of a new product network, called the Edge Graph Product. Lower bounds are usually computed by the crossing number and bisection width of the topological graphs. For computing the bisection width and crossing number of the edge graph product, we use the obtained upper bound on maximal...

Abstract
Estimation of damage to structures after severe earthquakes is important for loss estimation and is an essential step for rescue program. Using seismic or spectral parameters could be a quick method for this purpose. In this article damage estimation for some world's destructive earthquakes has been carried out. For this purpose some earthquake seismic parameters, response spectra and damage indices have been calculated and compared. Damage indices are calculated for three types of intermediate sway concrete frame buildings, i.e. low-rise, mid-rise and high-rise, designed according to Iranian Seismic Code and ACI 318-95. Finally the trend between earthquake seismic parameters, response...
Preparation and evaluation of chitosan-coated eggshell particles as copper(II) biosorbent

Abstract
Preparation and evaluation of chitosan-coated eggshell (CTS-ES) particles as a biosorbent for removal of Cu(II) ions from aqueous media was considered in this research. For this purpose, chitosan was coated on eggshell (ES) particles through precipitation procedure. The coated particles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, thermogravimetric analysis, and field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis. Kinetic studies showed that coating of chitosan on ES particles improved their Cu(II) adsorption capacity. The removal of Cu(II) ions by either ES or CTS-ES particles followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics, indicating that chemical sorption is the rate-limiting step for...

Abstract
Keggin-type polyoxometalate (POM) nanoparticles based on [PW12O40]3- and [SiW12O40]4- with Ag+ and (ZrO)2+ cations were prepared under ultrasound irradiation. The results of SEM and XRD revealed the average size of particles in the range of 24–95 nm. The moles of crystallization water per mole of nanocatalysts were in the range of 3–9. EDX spectra confirmed the successful replacement of protons of H3PW12O40 and H4SiW12O40 with Ag+ and (ZrO)2+ cations. These nanoparticles were used as heterogeneous catalysts for the synthesis of a poly (amido-ester) at room temperature. All polymers were fully characterized. Although employing the nanocatalyst resulted in at least 22% improvement in the...

Abstract
The Cartesian and Composition products are two well known graph products, also applied to interconnection networks area. The Cartesian and Composition network products possess great characteristics of fault resilience according to their high connectivity. In this paper, we study the existence and construction of parallel routing paths in these two well-known product networks. To prove the existence of certain number of parallel paths in these product networks, we need to compute their connectivity. By assuming the availability of certain number of faulty nodes, we propose some new shortest-path parallel routing algorithms. These algorithms can be used both in faulty networks and to route...
Optimal sub-graph selection over coded networks with delay and limited-size buffering

Abstract
The authors consider the problem of finding a minimum cost multicast sub-graph based on network coding, where delay values associated with each link, limited buffer-size of the intermediate nodes and link capacity variations over time are taken into account. The authors consider static multicast (where membership of the multicast group remains constant for the duration of the connection) in lossless wireline networks. For such networks, first the continuous-time (asynchronous packet transmissions) model is formulated. Subsequently, the discrete-time model for the synchronous packet transmissions scenario is derived. Then, by using an auxiliary time-expanded network, a decentralised algorithm...
Study on dynamic and mechanical characteristics of carbon fiber- and polyamide fiber-reinforced seismic isolators

Abstract
Seismic isolators are used to decrease the energy and forces of earthquakes. The weight of conventional steel-reinforced elastomeric isolators (SREIs) is high, mostly due to the use of multiple steel shim plates. On the contrary, the damping ratio of SREIs is relatively low. Accordingly, this research utilizes a new approach in which the steel shim plates are replaced by carbon and polyamide fibers. This study attempts to obtain the dynamic and mechanical properties of such carbon fiber- and polyamide fiber-reinforced elastomeric isolators, in comparison with SREIs. In this work, a number of specimens were initially designed and manufactured. Afterwards, compression and cyclic shear tests...

Abstract
This paper presents the results of an experimental work in order to evaluate the performance of a novel proposed retrofitting technique on a typical dome-roof adobe building by shaking table tests. For this purpose, two specimens, scaled 2:3, were subjected to a total of nine shaking table tests. The unretrofitted specimen, constructed by common practice, is designed to evaluate seismic performance and vulnerability of dome-roof adobe houses. The retrofitted specimen, exactly duplicating the first specimen, is retrofitted based on the results obtained from unretrofitted specimen tests, and the improvement in seismic behavior of the structure is investigated. Zarand earthquake (2005) Chatrood...
