, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hormozi-Nezhad, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Torkian, Ayoub (Supervisor)
Abstract
There is an increasing need for food by the growth of population. To meet this need, the use of pesticides is increasing. Among pesticides organophosphorous compounds are the ones with the most usage. Liquid and gas chromatography are commonly used to measure orghanpphosphrous pesticides. These methods are relatively time consuming and require a tedious sample preparation.
Herein we report a sensitive colorimetric method for detection and measurement of Azinphos methyl, based on unmodified gold nanoparticles aggregation and changes in plasmonic band. Azinphos methyl, containing different soft acidic groups acts as a bridge, causes aggregation, and changes in plasmonic band. Changes in...

Futuristic Greedy Algorithm on some NP-complete Problems
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Izadi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Many problems in the field of 0-1 integer programming are NP-Complete. Execution time for exact solving these problems is very high due to many constraints and decision variables. Hence, scientists use Fast algorithms, for example, the Greedy algorithms, in the approximated solution of these problems.A classic greedy approach may not search the whole solution space for better choices. However, other methods with a greedy approach, such as meta heuristic and hyper heuristic, in addition to local search, consider the more search space. These methods search randomly, so it does not provide a good guarantee for finding the proper solutions. Finding suitable solutions in this category of...
Nanoindentation of isotactic polypropylene: Correlations between hardness, yield stress, and modulus on the local and global scales
, Article Journal of Applied Polymer Science ; Volume 121, Issue 2 , February , 2011 , Pages 930-938 ; 00218995 (ISSN) ; Bagheri, R ; Asgari, S ; Sharif University of Technology
2011
Abstract
The correlations between the hardness, yield stress, and modulus of elasticity of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) were evaluated on the local and global scales. Nanoindentation and traditional macromechanical tests were incorporated for this purpose. Thus, local and global mechanical properties were measured at various temperatures and strain rates. A certain relation was found between the local and global mechanical properties. Moreover, Johnson's model (developed according to the expanding cavity model) was also evaluated at various temperatures and strain rates. The Johnson model was valid only for the yield stresses obtained by nanoindentation and compressive tests and also the elastic...
Sequences of fracture toughness micromechanisms in PP/CaCO3 nanocomposites
, Article Journal of Applied Polymer Science ; Volume 110, Issue 6 , 2008 , Pages 4040-4048 ; 00218995 (ISSN) ; Bagheri, R ; Zokaei, S ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Mechanical properties and fracture toughness micromechanisms of copolypropylene filled with different amount of nanometric CaCO3 (5-15 wt %) were studied, J-integral fracture toughness was incorporated to measure the effect of incorporation of nanoparticle into PP matrix. Crack-tip damage zones and fracture surfaces were studied to investigate the effect of nanofiller content on fracture toughness micromechanisms. It was found that nanofiller acted as a nucleating agent and decreased the spherulite size of polypropylene significantly, J-integral fracture toughness (Jc) of nanocomposites was improved dramatically. The Jc value increased up to approximately two times that of pure PP at 5 wt %...
The Present Status of Majorana Neutrin
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golshani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
One of the most simple questions of particle physics, which is still unanswered, is whether neutrino and antineutrino are the same particles or not. The answer to this question has many implications for the physics beyond the Standard Model, supersymmetric theories and unified theories.
In this thesis we first introduce Majorana fermion, the best candidate for which is neutrino. Then its implications for going beyond the standard Model have been discussed. At present time, the most important experiment which can prove this guess is neutrinoless double beta decay which has been studied in details in this thesis. The study of the theoretical and experimental aspects of neutrinoless double...

Study of scratch resistance in homo- and co-polypropylene filled with nanometric calcium carbonate
, Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 445-446 , 2007 , Pages 526-536 ; 09215093 (ISSN) ; Lesan Khosh M., R ; Bagheri, R ; Sharif University of Technology
2007
Abstract
In this study, homo- and co-polypropylene were modified by nanometric calcium carbonate and the effect of additive on scratch resistance was evaluated. Results of this study show that the length of scratch curvature can be considered as an acceptable criterion to evaluate the scratch resistance of polymers. Also, it was found that addition of calcium carbonate to homo-polypropylene increases scratch resistance of this polymer, but its effect on co-polypropylene is insignificant. Based on the results of this work, one may claim that incorporation of nanometric particles with good adhesion to the matrix and well dispersion might be effective in enhancement of scratch resistance. Formation of...

Abstract
The fracture toughness and deformation mechanism of PP/CaCO3 (15 wt.%) composites were studied and related to load-bearing capacity of the particles. To alter the load-bearing capacity of the particles, different particle sizes (0.07-7 μm) with or without stearic acid coating were incorporated. The fracture toughness of the composites was determined using J-Integral method and the deformation mechanism was studied by transmission optical microscopy of the crack tip damage zone. It was observed that the load-bearing capacity of the particles decreased by reduction of particle size and application of coating. A linear relationship between normalized fracture toughness and inverse of...
Bi-objective optimization of a job shop with two types of failures for the operating machines that use automated guided vehicles

Abstract
Reliability of machinery and equipment in flexible manufacturing systems are among the most important issues to reduce production costs and to increase efficiency. This paper investigates the reliability of machinery in job shop production systems, where materials, parts, and other production needs are handled by automated guided vehicles (AGV). The failures time of the parallel machines in a given shop follow either an exponential or a Weibull distribution. As there is no closed-form equation to calculate the reliability of the shop in the Weibull case, a simulation approach is taken in this paper to estimate the reliability. Then, a bi-objective nonlinear optimization model is developed...

Abstract
Tool reliability is one of the most important issues in a flexible manufacturing system. If a tool fails to operate correctly, the performance of the manufacturing system is reduced, the due date may be violated, or the product quality falls behind the standards. This paper develops a bi-objective mathematical model for tool selection in a flexible manufacturing system in order to optimize both reliability and cost. The tools in these environments are considered to have increasing failure rates as they are used over time; a case closer to reality. This paper aims to evaluate the availability of different tools used in a production system, in which the reliability of a tool is dependent on...

Abstract
Metabonomics and other "omic" fields are essential science in analytical chemistry. Modern analytical instruments such as proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) can provide the great quantity of analytical information. In order to assign unknown samples, chemometric methods recognition build classification model based on experimental data. Firstly, some current strategies regarding disease diagnosis are exhibited in metabonomic studies. Some diseases such as crohn's disease can be difficult to diagnose since its signs and symptoms may be similar to other medical problems or often mimic other symptoms. Applications of NMR and supervised pattern recognition in the field of metabonomics are...
Determining the Number of Factors and Proposing a Multi-Factor Model: An Exploration of Iranian Market Data
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Baharmgiri, Mohsen (Supervisor) ; Hagh Panah, Farshad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Asset pricing models are one of the most important tools in investment management and portfolio allocation. Multi-factor asset pricing models try to explain the relationship between risk and expected return through a limited number of macroeconomic, fundamental or statistical factors. Usually, these models are suggested based on the US market and its intrinsic qualities. Although, there are some similarities between the Iranian and the US market, these economies are structurally different and therefore, proposing a proper multi-factor model based on the Iranian market’s fundamental characteristics will greatly improve the understanding of risk-return relationship in this market. In this...
Forecasting Market Liquidity by Dynamic Arrival Rates of Infomred and Uninformed Trades
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Zamani, Shiva (Supervisor) ; Hagh Panah, Farshad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research, we propose a dynamic econometric microstructure model of trading, and we investigate how the dynamics of trades and trade composition interact with the evolution of market liquidity. We estimate a bivariate generalized autoregressive intensity process for the arrival rates of informed and uninformed trades for fifty actively traded stocks in Tehran Stock Exchange over one year of transaction data. Our results show that both informed and uninformed trades are highly persistent, but that the uninformed arrival forecasts respond negatively to past forecasts of the informed intensity. Our estimation generates daily conditional arrival rates of informed and uninformed trades,...

Experimental Investigation of Bubble Growth on Fluidized Bed Distributor
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rashtchian, Davood (Supervisor) ; Zarghami, Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study formation of a single bubble on fluidized bed distributor is investigated. Digital image processing and pressure sensors are used to analyze bubble characteristics. Effects of density and the size of particles on bubble diameter, formation time, separation and passing velocity was studied in different flow rates of nozzle. Bubble diameter when is separated from nozzle was greater for lower density particles which have the same size. The ratio of diameter formation was approximately equal to inverse of densities ratio. Bubble formation time is decreased by increasing the flow rate of nozzle and the formation time is approached to a specified value. In addition, it was observed...
