Corpus-based Analysis of "The Little Prince" and its Translations based on Computational Linguistics
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rezaei, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Mahmoodi Bakhtiari, Behrooz ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
Abstract
Concepts and ideas of a society, formed by its discourse and ideology, are mainly manifested through language. Therefore, language has always been the subject of studies and research of many scholars such as linguists. As the languages of different countries are different, in order to transfer the thoughts of a writer, a deep examination of the source text as well as the translation of the work itself seems to be of much importance. Since translation is not an independent phenomenon and depends on the interpreter's perception, it is in relation with ideological concepts and power like the work itself. In order to be able to examine the structural effects of a work on the foundation of the...

Abstract
Optimization of transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding variables is essential to achieve a joint free from deleterious intermetallic constituents as well as with appropriate mechanical properties. In this research, TLP bonding of FSX-414 superalloy was performed using the MBF-80 interlayer. The effects of bonding time (1-30. min) and gap size (25-100 μm) were studied on the joint microstructure and its mechanical properties. Continuous centerline eutectic phases, characterized as nickel-rich and chromium-rich borides, were observed at the joints with incomplete isothermal solidification. The globular and acicular phases were seen at diffusion affected zone (DAZ). These phases could be...

Abstract
4340 steel bars were austenitized at 850°C for 1 hour followed by heating at 700°C (ferrite and austenite region) for 90 min and quenching into a salt bath with different temperatures of 300, 350, 400 and 450°C. The steel bars were held for 1 hour at these temperatures before air cooling to room temperature. Various ferrite-bainite microstructures with 34% volume fraction of ferrite and different bainite morphologies were obtained. The results of SEM studies showed that by increasing the austempering temperature, the morphology of bainite varies from lower to upper bainite. According to the T-T-T diagram of the studied steel, the bainite transformation will not complete for the holding time...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rashtchian, Davood (Supervisor)
Abstract
Dust explosions are a serious hazard in many process industries and storage facilities. More than 70% of dusts processed in industry are combustible. This implies that majority of industrial plants that have dust processing equipment are susceptible to dust explosions. Dust explosions pose the most serious and widespread of explosion hazards in the process industry alongside vapour cloud explosions (VCE) and boiling liquid expanding vapour explosions (BLEVE). Dust explosions almost always lead to serious financial losses in terms of damage to facilities and down time. They also often cause serious injuries to personnel, and fatalities. In this project we presented a systematic algorithm in...

Abstract
4340 steel bars were austenitized at 850 °C for 1 h followed by heating at 700 °C for 90 min and quenching into a salt bath at the temperature range of 300-450 °C for 1 h to obtain dual structures with 34 vol.% fraction ferrite and various bainite morphologies. SEM studies showed that by increasing the austempering temperature, bainite morphology varies from lower to upper bainite. Tensile, impact and hardness tests revealed that increasing the austempering temperature from 300 to 400 °C leads to a reduction in yield and ultimate tensile strength, hardness, uniform and total elongation and impact energy. But in dual phase steel produced by austempering at 450 °C, yield and tensile strength...

Abstract
In this paper, a new scheme for adaptiva subcarrier, bit and power allocation for downlink transmission of multiuser orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems is presented. An adaptive algorithm is introduced to achieve the desired bit rate and BER for QoS (quality of service) of different users in a frequency selective fading channel, while the total transmit power is minimized. The performance and complexity of the proposed scheme is also thoroughly compared with the other existing methods. As the simulation results show, the proposed algorithm outperforms all prior sub-optimum schemes, while offering comparable computational complexity. © 2003 IEEE

A Study on Importance of Overstrength Factor in Inelastic Behavior of Soil-Structure Systems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghannad, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Recent studies on inelastic behavior of soil-structure systems indicate that seismic design codes provisions, which use the same response modification factor for fixed base structures and soil-structure systems, are not appropriate and could lead to an increase in ductility demand of structures (as a part of soil-structure system). As a result, to reduce design base shear and design forces with regards to collaboration of soil-structure interaction could be in non-conservative manner. In all of these studies, the ductility component of the response modification factor (i.e. Rµ ) has been the major concern and the overstrength component has been ignored. However, the existence of...
Residential Demand Response Coordination in Low Voltage Distribution Feeder with High Penetration of Solar Energy
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Safdarian, Amir (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, due to improved quality and lower solar panel prices, the use of this renewable energy source in the world has increased dramatically. The proliferation and expansion of the solar panels in the distribution systems, at the time when the solar energy production reaches its maximum value, increases the voltage at the end of the low voltage feeder. This issue cause limitations on the installed photovoltaic capacity in the system. So far, several methods have been proposed to overcome this problem and increase the installed photovoltaic capacity. Demand response is one of the proposed methods. This thesis, with upgrading one of the proposed methods provides a model to make...
Seismic behavior of Moment Resisting Steel Beam-Precast Reinforced Concrete Column Connections
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the last decades, noticeable experimental and analytical investigations have been carried out on cast-in-place Reinforced Concrete column to Steel beam (RCS) connections, however rarely have been conducted on the precast RCS. In this reaserch, test results of five half-scale interior precast RCS connections with variable joint configurations are presented. The steel beams were connected to the precast column, using face bearing plates, embedded in the connection zone. The flanges of beams were strengthened with respect to scaled section, in order to increase the load transfer to the joint. All samples were loaded under reversed displacement controlled condition. The failure mode, joint...
Analytical Evaluation of Moment Resisting Precast Concrete Beam to Column Connections by Finite Element Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khalu, Alireza (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this thesis, the behavior of proposed moment resisting precast beam-column concrete connection under cyclic and monotonic loads is investigated. In this study, the finite element models of precast and monolithic middle and corner connections are created. The results of finite element analysis under cyclic loading is verified with existing experimental results based on failure mode, ductility, energy dissipation capacity and flexural strength. Based on the results of nonlinear finite element analysis, the analytical behavior of samples is in good agreement with experimental results and finite element analysis of proposed precast connection can be replaced with supplementary tests. Then the...

Abstract
The bonding temperature is an important parameter for optimization of the Transient Liquid Phase (TLP) bonding process in order to achieve a sound joint with good mechanical properties. However, the bonding temperature used can also be restricted by the microstructural stability of the base metal. In this study, the effect of bonding temperature (1050-1200 °C) on the joint microstructure and mechanical properties was studied for TLP bonding of FSX-414 superalloy using MBF-80 interlayer with thickness of 50 μm. Increasing bonding temperature from 1050 to 1150 °C caused reduction in the time required for complete isothermal solidification in agreement with models based on the diffusion induced...

Abstract
Co-based FSX-414 superalloy is especially used for first-stage nozzles of gas turbines. Transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding has potential as repair process for these nozzles. In this study, homogenization of TLP-bonded FSX-414 superalloy at optimum bonding condition (1150 °C/5 min) was conducted at 1175, 1200, and 1225 °C for 1, 3, and 6 h. Homogenization at 1175 °C/1 h had no effect on removing the diffusion-affected zone (DAZ) phases. Increasing the time to 6 h was effective in removing DAZ phases and boride phases formed due to liquefaction, but compositional homogenization was not complete. Homogenization at 1200 °C for 1 h caused boride phases to form adjacent to the joint and in the...
