Reliability of slope stability analysis using fuzzy set
, Article Annual Conference of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering 2007: Where the Road Ends, Ingenuity Begins, Yellowknife, NT, 6 June 2007 through 9 June 2007 ; Volume 1 , 2007 , Pages 11-20 ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this research, theory of fuzzy sets is used to deal with the uncertain nature of soil parameters and the inaccuracy involved in the analysis simultaneously. Soil parameters are defined using suitable fuzzy sets and the uncertainty inherent in the value of factor of safety is assessed. It is believed that this approach accounts for the uncertainty in soil parameters more realistically compared to the conventional probabilistic approaches reported in the literature. The proposed method is applied to a case study and the results are discussed subsequently
Small-strain shear modulus of cement-admixed kaolinite
, Article Geotechnical and Geological Engineering ; Volume 30, Issue 1 , Oct , 2012 , Pages 163-171 ; 09603182 (ISSN) ; Pak, A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
An experimental study is conducted to measure small-strain shear modulus of clay-cement mixture using bender element apparatus setup in a triaxial cell. Bender element tests were conducted on cement-treated soils and the results were analyzed to study the variation of shear modulus properties of soil specimens at different cement contents, confining pressures, curing times, and compaction moisture contents. Based on the obtained results increasing the cement ratio has a significant effect on the small-strain shear modulus of the treated soils, and this effect signifies with increasing the moisture content and curing time. Rates of shear modulus enhancements due to cement content, curing...
Chaperones promote remarkable solubilization of salmonella enterica serovar enteritidis flagellin expressed in escherichia coli

Abstract
Background: Flagellin of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis (SEF) stimulates immune responses to both itself and coapplied antigens. It is therefore used in vaccine development and immunotherapy. Removal of pathogenic S. enterica ser. Enteritidis from SEF production process is advantageous due to the process safety improvement. The protein solubility analysis using SDS-PAGE indicated that 53.49% of SEF expressed in Escherichia coli formed inclusion bodies. However, the protein recovery from inclusion bodies requires a complex process with a low yield. Objective: We thus aim to study possibility of enhancing SEF expression in E. coli in soluble form using chemical and molecular...
Simplified Methods to Estimate the Response of Non-linear Soil-structure Interaction Systems
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghannad, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Usually the structures are designed based on the fixed-base assumption; however thisassumption is not always correct and the bed flexibility should be considered. This effectwhich is called soil-structure interaction, change the response of structure on both elasticand inelastic behavior. In the regulations for the design of structures on flexible base, generally soil-structure system is replaced with an equivalent fixed base structure; in theway that the design force of soil-structure system with reasonable accuracy can beestimated by equivalent fixed-base structure. In some regulations, dynamic characteristicsof equivalent structure have been determined on elastic state and the results have...
Increased Expression of Flagellins Recombinant Soluble form by Chemical Chaperon
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Yaghmaei, Soheila (Supervisor) ; Tarahomjoo, Shirin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Flagella is the organelle involved in motility of Salmonella and plays an important role in colonization of Salmonella. Flagellins is the structural subunits of flagellar filament that is known as an adjuvant. Recombinant production of flagellin of S. enteritidis is advantageous due to the removal of pathogenic microorganism from the production process and improved process safety. E.coli is an appropriate host for the expression of recombinant proteins. However, its major obstacle is the formation of inclusion bodies. Inclusion bodies are aggregated inactive proteins and the recovery of proteins in the active form from these aggregates usually has a low yield. Therefore, the objective of our...
Damage Detection of Offshore Jacket Platforms Using Fitting Vibration Data
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ali Akbar, Golafshani (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the regard of structural health monitoring the identification of the structural modal parameters is essential. Since the different sources (wind, waves, Devices …) induce vibration on an offshore platform, it is impossible to determine the portion of each source in vibration. Thus the methods that analyze vibrations needless of input measurements are more efficient. These methods apply the ambient factors and obtain the modal properties from the structural response. This procedure has no unwanted effect on the serviceability of structure and by placement of sensors on the platform; one can monitor the structural health.

Examining the Relationship Between Post-choice Attitude Change and Framing Effects
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fatemi, Farshad (Supervisor) ; Bahrami, Bahador (Supervisor)
Abstract
In economics, choice or behavior is considered as a result of utility optimization. However, there’s much theoretical and experimental evidence that shows human beings suffer from decision-making and judgment errors. This research aiming at examining the relationship between post-choice attitude changes and framing effects as the two instances of those errors designed and implemented a 2 by 2 between-subject lab experiment. The subjects were randomly assigned to one of these four groups. The two treatment groups made their decision after they rated the objects one time and the two control groups did this after they evaluated the objects two times. Another intervention was to manipulate...
Evaluation of dynamic properties of cement-admixed clay using neural network and dynamic triaxial test results
, Article Annual Conference of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering 2007: Where the Road Ends, Ingenuity Begins, Yellowknife, NT, 6 June 2007 through 9 June 2007 ; Volume 1 , 2007 , Pages 215-223 ; Reinforced Earth Company Ltd.; First Air; Dillon Consulting; FSC Architects and Engineers; DIAVIK Diamond Mines; et al ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
In this paper dynamic property of Cement-Admixed clay under a wide range of strains were studied considering the effect of different mixing ratio and the change of confining pressures through dynamic triaxial test. Triaxial tests were conducted on untreated and cement treated soils and the results were then analyzed to study the variations in dynamic elastic modulus (Ed) and the damping ratio (D) of soil specimens at different cement ratio. Increasing cement ratio has a significant effect on Ed of the treated soils, and increases it. In contrast, increasing cement ratio decreases D; however, the rate of decreasing D with increasing cement ratio is not considerable. The feed-forward...
