Developing a Set of Patterns for Migrating Applications into the Cloud
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Heydarnoori, Abbas (Supervisor)
Abstract
Cloud computing offers its customers and organizations many advantages such as turning CAPEX to OPEX in the business side, and enabling scalability and fast and easy resource provisioning in the technical side. Using these features, companies can benefit from deployment in the cloud at a lower cost, and at the same time, focus more on their business. Therefore, many organizations are migrating their vital systems to the cloud because of its many benefits. Research on this topic has been started a few years ago, and since then, many approaches including architecture-based, model-driven, and SOA-based approaches have been proposed. Some of these solutions are just adaptations of the...
Optimization of Heat Recovery and Water Capture System from Boiler Flue Gas
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saboohi, Yadollah (Supervisor)
Abstract
Thermal energy and water in flue gases varies with the type of fuel and thermal conversion system. Flue gas temperature is maintained in the range of 140 (℃) to 200 (℃) and it is subject to the sulfur content of the fuel. Vapor content of the flue gas is in the range of 10%_20% of volumetric flow. Considerable part of vapor may be recovered which can be used as cooling water make up. There are various means and methods for water capture and heat recovery which includes shell-tube heat exchanger among others. Selection of appropriate material and heat exchanger is conditioned by corrosion, temperature of flue gas and it’s economic feasibility. Identification of an optimal design of...

System can load gears symmetric or anti symmetric and simulate the effect of shaft misalignments, bearing damage and gear production tolerances on the gear loading. System completely designed, built and tested during this project and using experimental data, its performance was...

Abstract
This study aims to assess the impact of the spacing between cylinders on their dynamic behaviour. Observations during this experiment have helped to identify the effect of spacing on excitation mechanism of each cylinder as well as establishing the relationship between cylinders response and the spacing between them. Arrays of cylindrical Structures in close proximity are common in variety of engineering structures, particularly in the offshore industry. If the cylinders are flexible, and are subject to excitation from fluid flow, then the dynamics is influenced by complex interactions between the cylinders, dependent on a variety of parameters. Two cylinders were flexibly mounted in tandem...

Abstract
A molecularly imprinted xerogel (MIX) for fentanyl was successfully prepared on the inner surface of a copper tube by sol-gel technology. Primarily, the tube was treated by self-assembly monolayers of 3-(mercaptopropyl) trimethoxysilane and then [3-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-propyl]-trimethoxysilane was employed as a precursor for imprinting the template molecule in acidic conditions. During the sol-gel process influential parameters including volume and concentration of fentanyl were carefully investigated to obtain the most efficient and appropriate xerogel. In parallel, a non-imprinted xerogel (NIX) was synthesized in the absence of fentanyl. The extraction efficiencies achieved from MIX and NIX,...

Abstract
Migration to the cloud has been a popular topic in industry and academia in recent years. Despite many benefits that the cloud presents, such as high availability and scalability, most of the on-premise application architectures are not ready to fully exploit the benefits of this environment, and adapting them to this environment is a non-trivial task. Microservices have appeared recently as novel architectural styles that are native to the cloud. These cloud-native architectures can facilitate migrating on-premise architectures to fully benefit from the cloud environments because non-functional attributes, like scalability, are inherent in this style. The existing approaches on cloud...

Abstract
Periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs) are a new class of porous materials with high surface area, ordered structures, and uniform pore sizes. There is a high structural diversity in these materials due to the possibility of choosing different building blocks, functionalization and chemical modification of organic groups. Considering the stated advantages, the synthesis and application of different classes of adsorbents based on periodic mesopore organosilica compounds are the main goals of this thesis. In this regard, in the first research, an attempt was made to use organosilica precursors based on the tyrosine amino acid in the preparation of PMO and then its adsorption capacity towards...

Abstract
A nonlinear mathematical model is developed in the time domain to simulate the behaviour of two identical flexibly mounted cylinders in tandem while undergoing vortex-induced vibration (VIV). Subsequently, the model is validated and modified against experimental results. Placing an array of bluff bodies in proximity frequently happens in different engineering fields. Chimney stacks, power transmission lines and oil production risers are few engineering structures that may be impacted by VIV. The coinciding of the vibration frequency with the structure natural frequency could have destructive consequences. The main objective of this study is to provide a symplectic and reliable model capable...

Abstract
Microservices architectures are becoming the defacto standard for building continuously deployed systems. At the same time, there is a substantial growth in the demand for migrating on-premise legacy applications to the cloud. In this context, organizations tend to migrate their traditional architectures into cloud-native architectures using microservices. This article reports a set of migration and rearchitecting design patterns that we have empirically identified and collected from industrial-scale software migration projects. These migration patterns can help information technology organizations plan their migration projects toward microservices more efficiently and effectively. In...

Abstract
Water-soluble peptidocalix[4]arenes were synthesized by the introduction of arginine-rich narrow groove-binding residues at lower rims through solid-phase synthesis. The study of binding of these water-soluble bidentate ligands to well-matched and mismatched DNA duplexes by fluorescent titrations, ethidium bromide (EB) displacement assays, DNA-melting experiments, and circular dichroism (CD) analysis revealed a sequence-dependent groove-binding mechanism

Abstract
A series of 3-cyano-2-pyridone derivatives were synthesized by one-pot four-component condensation reaction involving a benzaldehyde derivative, alkyl cyanoacetate, acyclic or cyclic ketones, and ammonium acetate in reflux condition. The X-ray structure of the products 5a and 5d confirm symmetric dimers via hydrogen bonding interactions between individual pyridine molecules showing, in addition, also π-π stacking interactions

Abstract
The novel coumarin-3-carboxamides (=2-oxo-2H-1-benzopyran-3-carboxamides) 5a-5g containing lipophilic spacers were synthesized through the Ugi-four-component reaction (Scheme 1). The reactions of aromatic aldehydes 1, 4,4'-oxybis[benzenamine] or 4,4'-methylenebis[benzenamine] as diamine 2, coumarin-3-carboxylic acid (=2-oxo-2H-benzopyran-3-carboxylic acid; 3), and alkyl isocyanides 4 lead to the desired substituted coumarin-3-carboxamides 5a-5g at room temperature with high bond-forming efficiency. These novel coumarin derivatives exhibit brilliant fluorescence at 544 nm in CHCl 3
A Semi-Supervised Algorithms for Clustering Microarray Data
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahdavi Amiri, Nezamoddin (Supervisor) ; Madadkar Sobhani, Armin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Microarray which is also known as Biochip is a flat substrate of glass with the size of 1 ×1 cm on which a numerous number of biosensors are placed in an array format. Microarray DNAs are used to measure expression level of thousands of genes. Repeating these experiments in different conditions can result in patterns of expression. After preparation, the florescent sample is hybridized with the sensors of microarray surface and fluoresce intensities of the spots are measured by a special camera called CCD. The obtained pictures are examined by a computer and the spot lights converted into numerical data by image processing algorithms. Putting these numbers into matrices of size m×n is...
