Abstract
Fuel Cell with Polymer membrane uses a reaction with Hydrogen and Oxygen as reactants to produce electricity. As the product of this reaction is water, this fuel cell produce clean energy. But if the produced water accumulates it can cause problems for fuel cell which can lead to complete failed of fuel cell. On the other hand water shortage in PEM fuel cell also can cause problems. So we need to have continues water management inside of PEM fuel cell. For this sake having knowledge about water inside of PEM fuel cell and specially the Gas Diffusion Layer which is the layer with responsibly to help the fuel cell to manage the water, is necessary. One of the ways for gaining that knowledge...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Eshraghniaye Jahromi, Abdolhamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study, redundancy allocation problem for a system with y subsystem including k-out-of-n structure is investigated. Due to existing repairable components in each subsystem, the model consists of selecting number of repairman and redundancy level for each subsystem. The model is constructed based on Markovian process and the goal is maximization of steady-state availability under constraints such as cost, weight, and volume. In this model, two type of costs are considered; cost of employing repairmen and cost of preparing components and decision variables of the model are number of repairman and number of component in each subsystem. The model is located into integer non-linear...
A Hybrid Mesh-Tree Peer-to-Peer Overlay Structure for Layered Video Streaming
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Movaghar Rahimabadi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Akbari, Behzad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays peer-to-peer networks are more popular than the client server model. Distributed manner of peers cooperation can decrease the heavy overhead of the server and all peers act both as clients and servers. Peer-to-peer networks have two famous structures called tree and mesh. Tree overlay has some challenges such as resiliency problems caused by peer churns and the leaf nodes that cannot use their upload bandwidth. Mesh overlay has does not have such problems, but it has a high delivery latency and overhead caused by pull mechanism. Using a hybrid mesh/tree overlay offers a push-pull approach and leads to using the advantages of both overlays simultaneously. Also in peer-to-peer...

, Article International Journal of Industrial engineering ; July 2008, Vol. 4, No. 7, 1-9 ; Eshghi, Kourosh ; Eshraghniaye Jahromi, Abdolhamid ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In this paper, a special class of redundancy optimization problem with fuzzy random variables is presented. In this model, fuzzy random lifetimes are considered as basic parameters and the Er-expected of system lifetime is used as a major type of system performance. Then a redundancy optimization problem is formulated as a binary integer programming model. Furthermore, illustrative numerical examples are also given to clarify the methods discussed in this paper
Shared information in a serial inventory system [electronic resource]
, Article International Journal of Advanced Operations Management - IJAOM ; 2011 Vol.3, No.2 pp.101 - 121 ; Eshraghniaye Jahromi, Abdolhamid ; Eshghi, Kourosh ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In this study, a supply chain model consisting of a single product, one supplier and one retailer is considered. Transportation times are constant and demands at the retailer are assumed to be generated by a stationary Poisson process. Demands not covered immediately from inventory are backordered. The retailer carries inventory and replenishes stock according to a (Q, R) policy. The supplier has online information about the demand at the retailer and uses this information to replenish its stock. The order size at the supplier is a multiple integer to the retailer's order size. Considering order costs for the retailer and the supplier, we derive the exact cost function for this inventory...
A resource constrained project scheduling problem with fuzzy random duration [electronic resource]
, Article Journal of Uncertain Systems ; Vol.4, No.2, pp.123-132, 2010 ; Eshghi, Kourosh ; Eshragh Jahromi, Abdolhamid ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In this paper, first a fuzzy random resource-constrained project scheduling problem is presented. The object of the problem is to find the optimal scheduling of project activities. In this model, duration of project activities is a fuzzy random variable. Then, the proposed model is formulated by using the expected value of fuzzy random variables as an IP model. An illustrative example is also provided to clarify the concept. © 2010 World Academic Press, UK. All rights reserved
On exponential flocking to the virtual leader in network of agents with double-integrator dynamics
, Article Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement and Control, Transactions of the ASME ; Volume 135, Issue 3 , 2013 ; 00220434 (ISSN) ; Haeri, M ; Sharif University of Technology
2013
Abstract
This paper considers flocking to the virtual leader in network of agents with double-integrator. A locally linear algorithm is employed which guarantees exponential flocking to the virtual leader. A lower bound for flocking rate is calculated which is independent of the initial conditions. Simulations are provided to validate the result and it is shown that the calculated rate is not over bound the actual convergence rate. The effect of coefficients of algorithm is investigated and it is shown that the similar results can be inferred from the calculated formula for the convergence rate. Copyright
Semi active vibration control of a passenger car using magnetorheological shock absorber
, Article ASME 2010 10th Biennial Conference on Engineering Systems Design and Analysis, ESDA2010, Istanbul, 12 July 2010 through 14 July 2010 ; Volume 3 , 2010 , Pages 21-27 ; 9780791849170 (ISBN) ; Zabihollah, A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
A novel semi-active control system for suspension systems of passenger car using Magnetorheological (MR) damper is introduced. The suspension system is considered as a mass-spring model with an eight-degrees-of-freedom, a passive damper and an active damper. The semi-active vibration control is designed to reduce the amplitude of automotive vibration caused by the alteration of road profile. The control mechanism is designed based on the optimal control algorithm, Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR). In this system, the damping coefficient of the shock absorber changes actively trough inducing magnetic field. It is observed that utilizing the present control algorithm may significantly reduce...
Replacement-repair policy based on a simulation model for multi-state deteriorating products under warranty
, Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 16, Issue 1 E , 2009 , Pages 26-35 ; 10263098 (ISSN) ; Vahdani, H ; Sharif University of Technology
2009
Abstract
In this paper, a replacement-repair model is developed to study a warranty servicing policy for a class of multi-state deteriorating and repairable products, based on a computer simulation analysis. In each working state there is a determined probability for transition to each of the subsequent states, given that it has made a transition out of that state. There are two parameters that determine the manufacturer's decision to repair or replace a failed item, assuming that the buyer's claim is valid; the deterioration degree of the item and the length of the residual warranty period. Beside these two parameters, other inputs to the model are: the number of working and failure states, the...

Abstract
We use the topological entanglement entropy (TEE) as an efficient tool to fully characterize the Abelian phase of a Z2 ×Z2 spin liquid emerging as the ground state of topological color code (TCC), which is a class of stabilizer states on the honeycomb lattice. We provide the fusion rules of the quasiparticle (QP) excitations of the model by introducing single- or two-body operators on physical spins for each fusion process which justify the corresponding fusion outcome. Besides this, we extract the TEE from Renyi entanglement entropy (EE) of the TCC, analytically and numerically by finite size exact diagonalization on the disk shape regions with contractible boundaries. We obtain that the EE...
A new model for reliability optimization of series-parallel systems with non-homogeneous components

Abstract
In discussions related to reliability optimization using redundancy allocation, one of the structures that has attracted the attention of many researchers, is series-parallel structure. In models previously presented for reliability optimization of series-parallel systems, there is a restricting assumption based on which all components of a subsystem must be homogeneous. This constraint limits system designers in selecting components and prevents achieving higher levels of reliability. In this paper, a new model is proposed for reliability optimization of series-parallel systems, which makes possible the use of non-homogeneous components in each subsystem. As a result of this flexibility,...

Abstract
In many real world optimization problems, including Redundancy Allocation Problem (RAP), there is a need to optimize more than one objective function simultaneously. In this paper, a new multi-objective formulation is presented for the RAP by considering the reliability and cost of the system as the objective functions. The previous formulations have been proposed based on the assumption that all components of a subsystem are homogeneous. This constraint leads to an increase in the designing cost and prevents from reaching to higher quantities of the system reliability. The presented formulation in this research provides an opportunity for the subsystems components to be non-homogeneous in...
Spin- 12 heisenberg antiferromagnet on the star lattice: competing valence-bond-solid phases studied by means of tensor networks
, Article Physical Review B ; Volume 98, Issue 15 , 2018 ; 24699950 (ISSN) ; Orús, R ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Using the infinite projected entangled pair states algorithm, we study the ground-state properties of the spin-1/2 quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the star lattice in the thermodynamic limit. By analyzing the ground-state energy of the two inequivalent bonds of the lattice in different unit-cell structures, we identify two competing valence-bond-solid (VBS) phases for different antiferromagnetic Heisenberg exchange couplings. More precisely, we observe (i) a VBS state which respects the full symmetries of the Hamiltonian, and (ii) a resonating VBS state which, in contrast to previous predictions, has a six-site unit-cell order and breaks C3 symmetry. We also studied the ground-state...

Abstract
We present a general graph-based projected entangled-pair state (gPEPS) algorithm to approximate ground states of nearest-neighbor local Hamiltonians on any lattice or graph of infinite size. By introducing the structural matrix, which codifies the details of tensor networks on any graphs in any dimension d, we are able to produce a code that can be essentially launched to simulate any lattice. We further introduce an optimized algorithm to compute simple tensor updates as well as expectation values and correlators with a mean-field-like effective environments. Though not being variational, this strategy allows to cope with PEPS of very large bond dimension (e.g., D=100) and produces...

Abstract
An electric power supply is the backbone of development in advanced as well as in developing economies. An integral part of ensuring a secure power supply system is a power communication system. Due to the high and sustained performance requirements of power communication systems, electric companies prefer to construct their own communication networks privately rather than relying solely on a public communication system. The focus of this paper is on the optimal topological design of a power communication network. Based on advanced optimization models in public communication networks, and taking into account the specific Quality of Service, as demanded by various applications, such as...
A mixed integer-programming model for periodic routing of special vessels in offshore oil industry

Abstract
In order to maintain the production of offshore oil wells, the National Iranian Oil Company periodically services facilities and equipment located in oil wellheads with mobile wellhead servants. It also gives technical supports to oil wellheads and mobile wellhead servants with supporter vessels. Due to supply limitations, there are not enough special vessels (namely supporter vessels and mobile wellhead servants) compared to the number of oil wellheads. The failure of special vessels to service oil wellheads and supporter vessels to technically support mobile wellhead servants based on a predetermined plan, will lead to considerable loss in production performance of oil wells and hence...
DFT study of the interaction of thymine with Cu+ and Zn 2+
, Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 16, Issue 2 C , 2009 , Pages 75-80 ; 10263098 (ISSN) ; Fattahi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
Interaction of the DNA thymine base with Cu+ and Zn3+ was studied to explore: a) The metal binding energy (MIA) of thymine with Cu+ and Zn2+ and b) The possible correlation between charge transfer and MIAs. The gas-phase Cu+ and Zn2+ affinities of thymine, as well as the Mulliken charges, on the complexed metal cations were both determined at the same computational level, including the density functional level and employing the hybrid B3LYP exchange correlation potential in connection with the 6-311++G (d,p) basis set. All the molecular complexes were obtained by interaction between the most stable tautomer of thymine and two transition mono and divalent (Cu+, Zn2+) metal ions. To probe all...
A fuzzy logic based approach to determine system well-being indices
, Article European Transactions on Electrical Power ; Volume 18, Issue 6 , 2008 , Pages 636-654 ; 1430144X (ISSN) ; Abiri Jahromi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
A new approach is presented in this paper to determine the degree of system well-being in the form of healthy, marginal and at risk state indices using the fuzzy logic concepts. Conventional well-being method uses a crisp deterministic criterion to divide power system comfort zone into the healthy and marginal states. In this regard, the main drawback is associated with categorising the system performance in the comfort zone into the healthy and marginal states. To overcome this problem, a new approach is developed that categorises the states as healthy or marginal using fuzzy logic. The technique together with the effects on the system risk and the system health and margin probabilities of...

Abstract
By combustion, waste toxic, flammable and corrosive materials are changed to less inviromental problems by combustion. It also creats environmental problems (the most serios problem is caused by burning gases), as well as economic resources are wasted. So several ways was investigated to reduce combustion gases. Mini-methanol plant is one of varios possible ways that can convert these gases in to methanol. So methanol plant was simulated and then pinch analysis was performed on the simulated plant. Performing of pinch analysis caused 94.5 percent and 25 percent reduction in amaunt of hot and cold utility respectively. Before and after pinch analysis, the exergy analysis was performed on...
