    New point-to-face contact algorithm for 3-D contact problems using the augmented Lagrangian method in 3-D DDA

    Abstract
    This paper presents a new point-to-face contact algorithm for contacts between two polyhedrons with planar boundaries. A new discrete numerical method called three-dimensional discontinuous deformation analysis (3-D DDA) is used and formulations of normal contact submatrices based on the proposed algorithm are derived. The presented algorithm is a simple and efficient method and it can be easily coded into a computer program. This approach does not need to use an iterative algorithm in each time step to obtain the contact plane, unlike the ‘Common-Plane’ method applied in the existing 3-D DDA.     Abstract
    Intermittency of height fluctuations in stationary state of the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation with infinitesimal surface tension in 1+1 dimensions was discussed. Stochastic differential equations were used for the study. It was found that the probability density function [in 1+1] is independent of the coefficient of the linear term. When the random force with smooth spatial correlation was considered, the problem changed to a more complicated one

    In this study, hydrogen generation is maximised by optimising the size and the operating conditions of an electrolyser (EL) directly connected to a photovoltaic (PV) module at different irradiance. Due to the variations of maximum power points of the PV module during a year and the complexity of the system, a nonlinear approach is considered.     Normal human breathing exhibits complex variability in both respiratory rhythm and volume. Analyzing such nonlinear fluctuations may provide clinically relevant information in patients with complex illnesses such as asthma. We compared the cycle-by-cycle fluctuations of inter-breath interval (IBI) and lung volume (LV) among healthy volunteers and patients with various types of asthma.     In present work, a novel supported bucky paper (BP) membrane was fabricated and evaluated for humic acid (HA) removal from water. For better understanding the effect of operating variables, response surface methodology (RSM) was also applied. Three independent parameters namely TOC concentration (5, 10 and 15 mg l-1), operating time (10, 20 and 30 min) and transmembrane pressure (TMP) (1, 2 and 3 bar) were selected for TOC removal (%) and permeate flux analysis. The results revealed that the membrane could effectively remove HA primarily through electrostatic repulsion and then adsorption mechanisms.     Abstract
    Site visits of selected factories and mines show large amounts of coal were collected as spoil and waste outside these locations due to un-efficiency of coal exploiting technology from mined material. The coal content of these waste materials is about 60%. In this work, we propose a method to be used for complete consumption of these materials in industry. In some samples, volume and weight of spoils could be decreased by half. This review also shows that aluminum oxide in industrial and minerals spoils are high, in some samples up to 25%. We suggest some remedies, e.g. we can use ashes produced by complete combustion of coal for production of aluminum hydroxide thus making it economical....
