    Abstract
In this paper, we focus on adaptive and wavelet based systems in radar signal processing, and a new algorithm to Doppler compensation is developed. The new wavelet-based method for ambiguity surface smoothing that applies the three dimensions dual tree wavelet transform and adapt constant false alarm rate, is proposed. The model captures the dependence between a wavelet coefficient and its parent. Simulation results show that new approach is better than older algorithms. We have simulated this new method for bistatic FM-based passive coherent receiver

    Abstract
In this paper, the distributed recovery units for FM and PPM demodulation in wireless sensor networks is proposed and is showed that, the method introduces very little amount of distortion to recovered signal. With simulations, we have examined several different parameters. Besides, two different filtering schemes are simulated. Effect of iteration coefficient (X) on stability and convergence rate is investigated for different sampling and filtering methods. Next, we have studied the noise effect in demodulation with this method. Simulations results are included to verify convergence. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005

Controlling Local Scour Due to Hydraulic Jump Using Oblique Buried Plates

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Borhani, Sanaz (Author) ; Borghei, Mahmood (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Local scouring at the downstream of sluice gates in the erosive beds is one of the main concerns of hydraulic engineers because of the significant damage that it can cause to the hydraulic structures. It is important to control the local scour depth at downstream of hydraulic structures to ensure safety operation of these systems. Many researchers have conducted various studies to predict the maximum depth and diameter of scour hole and develop new methods in order to control this phenomenon. One way to overcome this problem is the use of apron, or non-erosive bed. In order to shorten the apron length or decrease the effect of the...

Orbit Design and Optimization of Satellite Constellation for Regional Coverage

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Borhani, Amir (Author) ; Assadian, Nima (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, the satellite constellation orbit design for regional coverage is investigated. The orbits of satellites in a constellation for Earth observation missions play a crucial role in performance and characteristics of the mission; for example the image resolution, the area of coverage, and the coverage interval. In this thesis the problem is to find the optimal initial orbital elements for meeting the earth observation mission objectives for one or several sites. The cost functions are the total coverage time, the maximum gap time, time average gap, altitude, and number of satellites. The problem is solved in a multi-objective manner for different combination of two of the above...

Data Allocation for Scratch-pad Memory on Embedded Multi-core Systems to Achieve Predictability and to Reduce Wcet

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Borhani, Zahra (Author) ; Ejlali, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Many embedded multicore systems can benefit from a memory hierarchy to bridge the processor/memory speed gap. Embedded systems usually utilize a cacheless architecture to avoid the unpredictable behavior. Unlike caches, scratchpad memories (SPM) are software controlled and hence the execution time of applications on such systems can be accurately predicted. Scheduling the tasks of an embedded multicore application and partitioning the available SPM budget among these cores are two critical issues in such systems. Often, these are considered separately, such a decoupled approach may miss better quality schedules. In this paper, we present an integrated approach to task scheduling and SPM...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Borhani, Hamed (Author) ; Abbaspour, Madjid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays marine-tourism industry, especially under water tourism, has become very attractive. Thus, numerous under water vehicles are designed and constructed. The primary objective of the present study is to design an underwater vehicle capable of carrying ten passengers. Tow system is proposed as propulsion system. Due to the high costs, noise and vibrations of existing propulsion systems in medium size vehicles which contradicts the goal of calm atmosphere for passenger, the proposing system seems suitable and pragmatic. Two-part tow system is utilized to enhance the stability of the under water vehicle named Towfish. In this study the structure of towfish is being designed. Then,...

    Abstract
We consider a spherical thick 3-brane immersed in a five-dimensional bulk space-time. We demonstrate how the thick brane equation of motion expanded in powers of the thickness of the brane can be obtained from the expected junction conditions on the boundaries of thick brane with the two embedding space-times. It is shown that the finite thickness corrections lead to a faster collapse of the brane in the vacuum

Experimental Study on the Behavior of the Expansive Concrete-filled UPVC Tube Columns Confined with GFRP Wraps under Pure Compression

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Borhani, Mohammad Hadi (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Lateral confinement is a proven method of increasing strength, stiffness and ductility of concrete columns. This is attributed to a created tri-axial stress state in the concrete core due to the confinement resulting in a higher level of endurable deviatoric stress. Plastic pipes are able to create such a confining medium in concrete-filled UPVC tube (CFUT) columns and therefore they can provide the concrete with some benefits of concrete filled steel tube (CFST) column system. Besides, these pipes are cheap, light and they are also easy to handle. Furthermore, they are resistant to corrosion or other forms of deterioration and recyclable and in this aspect, they are...

    Abstract
Multicomputers have experienced a rapid development during the last decade. Multicomputers rely on an interconnection network among processors to support the message-passing mechanism. Therefore, the reliability of the interconnection network is very important for the reliability of the whole system. In this paper a new fault-tolerant routing algorithm, which is based on dimension order routing, is proposed for k-ary 2-cubes. Packets are sent to their destination through XY routing algorithm and if this transmission is not possible, YX routing algorithm is applied. The XY routing algorithm nullifies offset in "X" direction before routing in "Y" direction, but the YX routing algorithm first...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Borhani Jahromi, Javad (Author) ; Kebriaee, Azadeh (Supervisor) ; Taiebi Rahni, Mohammad (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, the physics related to liquid jet injection from injectors with three different crescent-shaped cross-sectional levels into steady and transverse flow were studied. The imaging method in this research was based on shadowgraph, which enables high-speed imaging. With the help of the obtained images, the breakup regimes, including Rayleigh, first and second wind-induced instabilities, were observed for injection into the steady flow. Furthermore, breakup regimes for jet injection into transverse flow, including columnar, columnar-bag, and bag, were also observed. The characteristics of the breakup height in steady flow and the length and height of the breakup along with the jet...

    Abstract
Using multiple antennas at the transmit and receive sides of a passive radar brings both the benefits of MIMO radar and passive radar. However one of the obstacles arisen in such configuration is the receive antennas placement in proper positions so that the radar performance is improved. Here we just consider the case of positioning one receiver among multiple illuminators of opportunity. Indeed it is a start for the solution of optimizing the geometry of the multiple receivers in a passive radar

    Abstract
In this paper, we consider an integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system with wireless power transfer (WPT) where an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based radar serves a group of energy-limited communication users in addition to its sensing functionality. In this architecture, the radar senses the environment in phase 1 (namely sensing phase) and mean-while, the communications users (nodes) harvest and store the energy from the radar transmit signal. The stored energy is then used for information transmission from the nodes to UAV in phase 2, i.e., uplink phase. Performance of the radar system depends on the transmit signal as well as the receive filter; the energy of the transmit...

    Abstract
One of the important obstacles in MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) radars is the issue of designing proper transmit signals. Indeed, the capability of signal design is a significant advantage in MIMO radars, through which, the system can achieve much better performance. Many different aspects of this performance improvement have been considered yet, and the transmit signals have been designed to attain such goal, e.g., getting higher SNR or better detector's performance at the receiver. However, an important tool for evaluating the radar's performance is its ambiguity function. In this paper, we consider the problem of transmit signal design, in order to optimize the ambiguity function...

    Detection-localization tradeoff in MIMO radars

    Abstract
Two gains play key roles in recently developed MIMO wireless communication systems: "spatial diversity" gain and "spatial multiplexing" gain. The diversity gain refers to the capability to decrease the error rate of the MIMO channel, while the multiplexing gain implicitly refers to the amount of increase in the capacity of the MIMO channel. It has been shown that there is a fundamental tradeoff between these two types of gains, meaning interplay between increasing reliability (via an increase in the diversity gain) and increasing data rate (via an increase in the multiplexing gain). On the other hand, recently, MIMO radars have attracted much attention for their superior ability to enhance...

Antenna placement and power allocation optimization in MIMO detection

    Abstract
It is a well known fact that using multiple antennas at transmit and receive sides improves the detection performance. However, in such multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration, proper positioning of transmitters and receivers is a big challenge that can have significant influence on the performance of the overall system. In addition, determining the power of each transmitter under a total power constraint is a problem that should be solved in order to enhance the performance and coverage of such a system. In this paper, we design the Neyman-Pearson detector under the Rayleigh scatter model and use it to introduce a criterion for the antenna placement at both transmit and receive...

Ambiguity function of MIMO radar with widely separated antennas

    Abstract
There has been much interest, recently, towards exploiting the Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technique in radar. It is shown that using multiple antennas at transmit and receive sides can improve the performance of the system. However, in order to analyze the system's performance, its ambiguity function, i.e. the ambiguity function of a MIMO radar, is needed to be defined. In this paper, beginning from the information theoretic definitions, we derive such function, specifically for a MIMO radar with widely separated antennas
