Evaluation of the Behavior of Silveh Earth Dam During Construction, Initial Impounding and Operation Period Using Instrumentation Data and Numerical Modeling
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jafarzadeh, Fardin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Monitoring the stability and behavior of dams during construction, first impoundment, and operation is essential for predicting and controlling their performance. In earth dams, pore water pressures, total stresses, and displacements within the core and shell are measured through instrumentation during these stages, providing the basis for evaluating the dam’s stability. In clay-core earth dams, increased pore water pressure during construction and initial impoundment may trigger or accelerate hydraulic fracturing, while limited deformation and low arching ratios also play key roles in maintaining stability. Back-analysis of instrumentation data and continuous monitoring during construction...

Abstract
Central Nervous System (CNS) malignant tumors are a leading cause of death worldwide with a high mortality rate. While numerous strategies have been proposed to treat CNS tumors, the treatment efficacy is still low mainly due to the existence of the Blood–Brain Barrier (BBB). BBB is a natural cellular layer between the circulatory system and brain extracellular fluid, limiting the transfer of drug particles and confining the routine treatment strategies in which drugs are released in the blood. Consequently, direct drug delivery methods have been devised to bypass the BBB. However, the efficiency of these methods is not enough to treat deep and large brain tumors. In the study at hand, the...

Abstract
Process variation has already emerged as a major concern in design of multi-processor system on chips (MPSoC). In recent years, there have been several attempts to bring variability awareness into the task scheduling process of embedded MPSoCs to improve performance yield. This study attempts to provide a comparative study of the current variation-aware design-time task and communication scheduling techniques that target embedded MPSoCs. To this end, the authors first use a sign-off variability modelling framework to accurately estimate the frequency distribution of MPSoC components. The task scheduling methods are then compared in terms of both the quality of the final solution and the...

Abstract
In this article, a continuum-based constitutive model is developed to predict the mechanical behavior of 5052 resin epoxy reinforced by multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) based on experimentally generated data. For this purpose, MWCNTs/epoxy specimens with various percentages of functionalized and nonfunctionalized MWCNTs are prepared. The SEM graphs indicate that functionalization leads to a better bound between epoxy and MWCNTs and a higher level of dispersion. The specimens are then tested under standard ASTM D638-02 a procedure and their true plastic stress–strain curves are extracted. Investigations on experimentally generated data reveal that a wt% dependent equation which is...

Genco's Bidding Strategy in Day-Ahead Energy Market Considering Demand Response
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ehsan, Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Since 1980s the electricity market has been gradually evolving from a monopoly market into a liberalized one for encouraging competition and improving efficiency. This brings the opportunity for generation companies (Gencos) to make more profits while embracing more risks of not being dispatched. Therefore, it has become a core interest for the Gencos to develop optimal bidding strategies to maximize the profits and minimize the risks while participating in such a competitive market. Error of determining day-ahead electricity price is one of the sources of the risk. Energy price has a high impact on bidding strategy optimization process. So it should be determined with low error which is not...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Ehsan , Mehdi (Supervisor)
Abstract
Electricity retailers are one of the power market entities which act as an intermediary between the producers in the wholesale market and the consumers in the retail side. The main task of a retailer in the power market is to set contract with the consumers to supply their electricity during a pre-specified time period and to participate in the wholesale market to supply the electricity needed by its costomers. Retailer’s contract with its customers may be a simple contract with a fixed pre-determined energy price or include some more complicated feathures such as involvement of a percent of green energy or variable price and demand response contracts. Moreover, retailer can supply its...
