    Minimum Link Navigation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Davari, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Zarei, Ali Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Finding a path between two specified points is one of the most common problem in computational geometry. The minimum-link path problem is in this category. The minimum-link path between two points is the path between these points with the minimum number of segments. Minimum-link paths have application in areas such as computer graphic, geographic information systems, robotics, image processing, cryptography and VLSI.In this thesis we study variations of the minimum link path problem. Specifically we consider the constrained minimum-link paths in which the path must passes through some given
regions. We detected a flaw in a previously presented algorithm and propose a method to fix this...

An Experimental Study of the Effects of Sweep Wing on the Boundary Layer of 2D Wing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tabrizian, Arshia (Author) ; Soltani, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Davari, Ali Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
The behavior of boundary layer under the effect of the sweep angle is considered. The measurements were performed by a pitot tube rake. Three models with various sweep angels at angles of attack -2, 0 and 2 degree were tested. Both tip and root of all wings were closed by flat plates in order to prevent the flow to roll-up. However the flow field on the wing was still three-dimensional because of the sweep angle. The velocity on the wing has two components; longitudinal and lateral. The cross flow emerges due to the non-equilibrium of pressure and centrifugal forces. The velocity profiles showed that the magnitude of cross flow was stronger near the leading edge of the wing. The cross flow...

An Experimental Investigation of Transition Point Over a Quasi 2D Swept Wing by Using Hotfilm Sensor

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hassanzadeh, Maryam (Author) ; Soltani, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Davari, Ali Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study some experiments were performed to investigate the effect of sweep angle on the transition location of laminar flow to turbulent flow. Three half wing models were used, each having a different sweep angle but with the same aspect ratio in various angles of attack. Two flat plates were used at the ends of the swept wing models to prevent the flow from rolling up over the wing. By simulating flow over infinity swept wing by eliminating tip vertices, the effect of sweep angle on flow transition phenomenon was investigated.
The experiments included the study of transition flow via hot-film sensors, which were glued on the wing surface. We found that the small leading-edge...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Davari, Susan (Author) ; Safekordi, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
packed columns are important in liquid-liquid extraction processes. In most studies, at first, drops are broken to small drops as much as possible and then they contact with packings. But, because of different reasons drops during their moving up coalescence together. So far, there is not serious investigation about hydrodynamics of these large drops and their breakage in packed columns. Thus, breakage of two different sizes of drops while collision to 3 different height of 4 different type of packings with two volumetric flow rates and in 2 cases of straight collision of drops to bed and collision to support plate has been investigated. Then size distribution of produced drops throughout...

    Abstract
The aim of this study is to employ feedback control loops to provide a stable forward dynamics simulation of human movement under repeated position constraint conditions in the environment, particularly during stair climbing. A ten-degrees-of-freedom skeletal model containing 18 Hill-type musculotendon actuators per leg was employed to simulate the model in the sagittal plane. The postural tracking and obstacle avoidance were provided by the proportional—integral—derivative controller according to the modulation of the time rate change of the joint kinematics. The stability of the model was maintained by controlling the velocity of the body's centre of mass according to the desired centre of...

Optimal Batch Production for a Single Machine System with Rework

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haji, Babak (Author) ; Haji, Ali Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research attempts to develop the optimal solution for an inventory problem consisting of a single machine which produces items some of which may be defective. We assume that no shortages are allowed and all defective items are to be reworked. Setup cost for rework and waiting time of defectives are considered. This research consists of two different parts. In the first part we consider two different policies where in the first policy in each cycle after the regular production the machine is setup for the rework of defectives of the same cycle. In the second policy several cycles constitute a period. All the defectives produced in the period are reworked in the last cycle of that period....

Improving the Reliability of Energy Harvesting Wireless Sensor Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jalali, Fatemeh (Author) ; Ejlali , Ali Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Energy harvesters are used in today’s Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) to harvest the energy from the environment. One of the important advantages of the energy harvesting sensor networks over battery-operated sensor networks is that the use of the energy harvester prolongs the life time of the nodes, while a battery-operated node becomes useless once its energy runs out. Although an energy harvester can provide a supply source with a lifetime much greater than a battery, the amount of available energy for an energy harvesting system is a random variable and is not as predictable as the energy of a battery. This unpredictability may cause reliability problems. In order to solve the existing...

Energy Management in Energy Harvesting Wireless Sensor Nodes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rohbani, Nezam (Author) ; Ejlali, Ali Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wireless Sensor Networks have become widespread because of their flexibility, applicability and ability to precept data with high accuracy. However, the most limiting factor in their usage is the amount of available energy in nodes since energy depletion in a node means that it is dead, therefore many efforts have been done for optimum energy management in Wireless Sensor Networks. In many cases, the key solution to prolong the network lifetime is load balancing. In this way, all the nodes will die (approximately) together and the lifetime of network will be maximized. Load balancing can be implemented in all layers from physical layer to application. It should be noted that it is not always...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Abdoos, Hatef (Author) ; Khaloo, Ali Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls with a curved cross-section are appealing structural elements to architects and engineers due to the aesthetic and structural advantages. Owing to the paucity of decent experimental research on curved RC shear walls (CRCSWs), the seismic response of these structural elements is essentially unknown. In that regard, this study includes research on a high-demanding type of structural element, which has found its application in North America, Europe, Asia, and to some extent in the Middle East with relatively no design specifications and laboratory research, structural analysis, and design methodology. Therefore, in order to provide an insight into the...

Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Thermally Driven Exchange Flow and Wind set up in Canopy Steep Area

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Davari, Andisheh (Author) ; Jamali, Mirmosaddegh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Solar heating in aqautic systems, causes tempreture increasing. This temperature difference will promote an exchange flow between the vegetation and open water. The exchange flow generated by the differential heating and cooling associated with depth variation has also been studied through laboratory experiment and modelling. Differential solar heating can result from shading by rooted emergent aquatic plants, producing a temperature difference between vegetated and unvegetated regions of a surface water body. Horizontal density difference between shaded and open water regions drives currents that carry fluxes between biologically and chemically distinct regions of an aquatic system. Such...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Davari, Hoda (Author) ; Jamali, Mirmossadegh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Preservation and survival of ecological systems by vegetation is important. A study focusing on the hydrodynamics of these complex ecosystems could help to explain the filtering ability of vegetation in wetlands and estuaries. Wetlands assist in flood control, shoreline protection, and groundwater recharge. In addition, they play a purification role in removing sediments and contaminants from polluted waters, nutrient uptake, and oxygen production.
Laboratory experiments have been designed to study the influence of marsh vegetation on lateral dispersion in flexible vegetation that has been modelled with inclined cylinder. The flow through vegetation is modelled by a circulating flow...

Coexistense of Dirac and Weyl Fermions in Topological Semimetals

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Davari, Elahe (Author) ; Kargarian, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Dirac-Weyl semimetals are new topological phases hosting the coexistence of Dirac and Weyl points in momentum space. Due to the different symmetry requirements of Weyl and Dirac semimetals, one may wonder whether these phases can coexist in real materials. Based on first principles calculations the noncentrosymmetric compounds SrHgPb and CaHgSn have band structure with the Dirac-Weyl crossings. In this thesis we introduce four band minimal lattice models which preserve n-fold rotation along z axis and break inversion symmetry. The obtained models use the minimum number of degrees of freedom, spin and orbital, and proper symmetries relevant to real materials yielding a four-band model where...

    , Article Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society ; Volume 507, Issue 3 , 2021 , Pages 3387-3399 ; 00358711 (ISSN) Davari, Z ; Rahvar, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Oxford University Press  2021
    Abstract
In this work, we investigate the MOdified Gravity (MOG) theory for dynamics of the Universe and compare the results with the Lambda cold dark matter (ΛCDM) cosmology. We study the background cosmological properties of the MOG model and structure formation at the linear perturbation level. We compare the two models with the currently available cosmological data by using statistical Bayesian analyses. After obtaining updated constraints on the free parameters, we use some methods of model selection to assist in choosing the more consistent model such as the reduced chi-squared (χ 2red) and a number of the basic information criteria such as the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), the Bayes...
