, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghobadi, Hossein (Author) ; Nemati, Ali (Supervisor) ; Sadeghian, Zahra (Supervisor) ; Ebadzadeh, Toraj ($item.subfieldsMap.e)
    Abstract
Carbon nanotubes were coated with boehmite nanoparticles by sol gel method. According to the TGA analysis, formation of gamma-alumina from boehmite was at 500 . SEM investigation revealed the uniform coverage of gamma-alumina nanoparticles on the surface of CNTs. Composite powders containing 1, 2 and 3vol% of coated CNTs were produced by mixing the coated CNTs with alumina suspension. Phase analysis of composite powder calcined at 500 showed the complete decomposition of boehmite and formation of gamma-alumina. Samples were shaped by cold isostatic pressing at the pressure of 180MPa and sintering was performed using two different methods of conventional and microwave. Existance of the CNTs...

Fine-grained SnO2 varistors prepared by microwave sintering for ultra-high voltage applications

    , Article Materials Letters ; Volume 230 , 2018 , Pages 9-11 ; 0167577X (ISSN) Maleki Shahraki, M ; Mahmoudi, P ; Abdollahi, M ; Ebadzadeh, T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this research, fine-grained SnO2-based varistors with a simple microstructure and the mean grain size of 0.8 µm were obtained by the microwave sintering method. The breakdown electric field measured for these varistors was 12 kV/cm that is 3 times higher than the conventional-sintered varistors. The high nonlinear coefficient (60) and low leakage current density (9 µA/cm2) were achieved in fine-grained SnO2 varistors. The fine-grained SnO2 varistors appropriately clamped pulse current surges and the calculated value of the clamping voltage ratio of these varistors was 2. The excellent electrical properties and protective effect of fine-grained SnO2 varistors showed that these varistors...

    Abstract
In this work, an attempt was made to improve the distribution of CNTs in CNT/alumina nanocomposites. The composite powders containing 1 and 3vol% of CNTs were produced and calcined at 500°C for 2h. Surface coating with boehmite nanoparticles was used to improve CNT distribution in alumina matrix. Calcined powders were shaped into compacted samples by cold isostatic pressing at 180MPa and sintered at 1600°C for 2h in flowing gas atmosphere (95%Ar+5%H2). Phase analysis of the calcined composite powders showed complete transformation of boehmite into gamma-alumina. The maximum flexural strength was 465±31MPa corresponding to addition of 1vol% CNTs. Evaluating the fracture toughness via DCM...

Microstructural characterization and enhanced hardness of nanostructured Ni3Ti– NiTi (B2) intermetallic alloy produced by mechanical alloying and fast microwave-assisted sintering process

    Abstract
In this paper, the rapid synthesis of nanostructured NiTi–Ni3Ti intermetallic alloy from titanium and nickel powders through mechanical alloying followed by microwave-assisted sintering process was investigated. The sintered samples at different temperatures exhibited major phases of NiTi– B2 and Ni3Ti, and minor phases of NiTi–B19′ and Ti2Ni. The density, porosity and microhardness of the sample varied based on the sintering temperature, in which the highest density and microhardness (~750 H V) were obtained at sintering temperature of 1100 °C. Based on the results of this research, the microwave-assisted sintering can be applied to fabricate Ni–Ti alloys with improved mechanical properties...

Preparation of mullite-TiB2-CNTs hybrid composite through spark plasma sintering

    , Article Ceramics International ; Volume 45, Issue 13 , 2019 , Pages 16288-16296 ; 02728842 (ISSN) Orooji, Y ; Ghasali, E ; Moradi, M ; Derakhshandeh, M. R ; Alizadeh, M ; Shahedi Asl, M ; Ebadzadeh, T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A near fully dense mullite-TiB2-CNTs hybrid composite was prepared successfully trough spark plasma sintering. 1 wt%CNT and 10 wt%TiB2 were mixed with nano-sized mullite powders using a high energy mixer mill. Spark plasma sintering was carried out at 1350 °C under the primary and final pressure of 10 MPa and 30 MPa, respectively. XRD results showed mullite and TiB2 as dominant crystalline phases accompanied by tiny peaks of alumina. The microstructure of prepared composites demonstrated uniform distribution of TiB2 reinforcements in mullite matrix without any pores and porosities as a result of near fully densified spark plasma sintered composite. The fracture surface of composite revealed...

Mechanical- activated phase formation of NiTi in the presence of nanoparticles [electronic resource]

    , Article Journal of Nano ; October 2013, Volume 08, Issue 05 Farvizi, M ; Ebadzadeh, T ; Vaezi, M. R ; Simchi, A. (Abdolreza) ; Kim, H. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Effect of Al2O3 nanoparticles (80 nm) on the grain structure and phase formation in Ni-50Ti system during high-energy mechanical alloying (MA) was studied. While the formation of NiTi B2 phase occurs progressively during MA, it is shown that the hard inclusions cause abrupt phase formation at short milling times, particularly at higher nano-Al2O3 contents. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy showed significant grain refinement in the presence of alumina nanoparticles to sizes less than 10 nm, which precedes the formation of semicrystalline structure and reduces the diffusion length and thus accelerates the phase formation. The composite powder reached steady-state MA condition...

Microstructural characterization of HIP consolidated NiTi–nano Al2O3 composites [electronic resource]

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; 5 September 2014, Volume 606, Pages 21–26 Farvizi, M ; Ebadzadeh, T ; Vaezi, M. R ; Yoon, E. Y ; Kim, Y. J ; Kim, H. S ; Simchi, A. (Abdolreza) ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The microstructure and phase transformational behavior of NiTi-based composites reinforced with 6 wt.% of α-alumina nanoparticles have been investigated. Two kinds of starting materials, elemental Ni–Ti and prealloyed austenitic NiTi, were used to prepare the composites. The samples were consolidated using a hot isostatic pressing method. The X-ray diffraction results showed that while unreinforced NiTi mainly contained B2 phase at room temperature, martensitic B19′ phase appeared in the microstructure after addition of the α-alumina nanoparticles. The differential scanning calorimetry measurements indicated that the martensitic transformation temperatures were elevated in the composite...
