    Abstract
Using solid-state power amplifiers for next generation of weather radars becomes feasible by pulse compression techniques. In this study a 1.5 kW solid-state power amplifier (transmitter) for C-band weather radars is designed and fabricated by GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) technology. An experimental setup based on heterodyne receiver with 16-bit digitiser is developed to investigate the behavior of the power amplifier under different cooling methods and back-off points. Several measurements with shaped LFM pulse show an approximately identical pulse to pulse (P2P) stability for 3 dB compression, P1dB and 2 dB back-off points while the best sidelobe level (SLL) is achieved for...

    Abstract
In a graph G a vertex v dominates all its neighbors and itself. A set D of vertices of G is (vertex) dominating set if each vertex of G is dominated by at least one vertex in D. The (vertex) domination number of G, denoted by γ (G), is the cardinality of a minimum dominating set of G. A set D of vertices in G is efficient dominating set if every vertex of G is dominated by exactly one vertex of D. For natural numbers n and k, where n > 2 k, a generalized Petersen graphP (n, k) is obtained by letting its vertex set be {u1, u2, ..., un} ∪ {v1, v2, ..., vn} and its edge set be the union of {ui ui + 1, ui vi, vi vi + l} over 1 ≤ i ≤ n, where subscripts are reduced modulo n. We prove a necessary...

    Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: It is suggested that activation of the transverse abdominis muscle has a stabilizing effect on the lumbar spine by raising intra-abdominal pressure without added disc compression. However, its feedforward activity has remained a controversial issue. In addition, research regarding bilateral activation of trunk muscles during a unilateral arm movement is limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate bilateral anticipatory activity of trunk muscles during unilateral arm flexion.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighteen healthy subjects (aged 25 ± 3.96 years) participated in this study and performed 10 trials of rapid arm flexion in response to a visual stimulus. The...

    Abstract
Heat flux from a premixed methane/air slot laminar flame jet impinging upward to a horizontal target plate is studied experimentally and numerically. Mach-Zehnder interferometer is used to obtain the overall temperature field. The flame jet is produced by a slot nozzle with length of L = 25 mm and width of W = 3 mm. The slot nozzle is parallel to the target plate which has the dimensions of 250 × 130 × 10 mm. The experimentally obtained heat flux distributions were compared for different firing rates and nozzle to plate spacing. A second peak in heat flux to the target surface (an off-center peak with respect to the axis of the nozzle) was observed for the shortest spacing and highest firing...

    Abstract
The luminescence parameters of laser-induced bubble in the presence of an acoustic field in water are studied. A comparison is made between parameters such as bubble radius, interior temperature, and pressure of the bubble induced by laser and an acoustic field influenced by different driving pressure amplitudes. It is found that the bubble volume induced by laser at the collapse instant is more than 106 times larger than the one induced by an acoustic field. It is also noticed, by increasing the driving pressure amplitude, the bubble radius decreases in both cases, however, the bubble interior pressure and temperature increase

    Abstract
To mitigate the environmental issues related to the utilisation of ordinary portland cement (OPC) in concrete mixtures, attempts have been carried out to find alternative binders such as rice husk ash (RHA) as replacements for OPC. This study contributes to moving from the traditional laboratory-based methods for the determination of compressive strength (CS) towards machine learning-based approaches by developing three accurate models (i.e. artificial neural network (ANN), multivariate adaptive regression spline (MARS) and M5P model tree) for the estimation of the CS of concretes containing RHA. For this purpose, the models were developed employing 909 data records collected through...

    Abstract
Switched Reluctance Motors (SRMs) are widely used in high-speed and low voltage applications because of their attractive features such as robustness and simplicity. No winding on the rotor of this type of motors allows reaching high speed which is desired for many applications. Drive circuits of SRMs also play an important role in their performance and operation. In this paper, a new bifilar drive circuit for this type of motors has been proposed. This novel configuration has been tested and investigated by PSIM software. Results show that the new bifilar drive circuit highly reduces the voltage stresses on semiconductor switches, and also considerably reduces the switching losses which are...

    Abstract
    Let G be a graph of order n and rank(G) denotes the rank of its adjacency matrix. Clearly, n ≤ rank (G) + rank (over(G, -)) ≤ 2 n. In this paper we characterize all graphs G such that rank (G) + rank (over(G, -)) = n, n + 1 or n + 2. Also for every integer n ≥ 5 and any k, 0 ≤ k ≤ n, we construct a graph G of order n, such that rank (G) + rank (over(G, -)) = n + k. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

    Abstract
Regarding the increasing number of electrical devices in the smart homes that leads to increase in total electricity consumption and cost, it is essential to use energy management methods to reduce the electricity cost. However, this can cause resident's dissatisfaction. Hence, it is important to define a method in which cost and dissatisfaction be optimized simultaneously. Among different services, an electric vehicle is the one that can be used as an energy storage system, so it can reduce the daily cost despite of increasing the total energy consumption. In this paper, we study the effect of the EV on the cost and dissatisfaction in our proposed method. © 2018 IEEE

    Abstract
Stability of Cassie-Baxter (CB) state is very critical in application of superhydrophobic surfaces. The most industrial applications of superhydrophobic surfaces are limited by the transition from the CB state to Wenzel (W) state. In this research, CB state stability of branched hierarchical ZnO nanowires (BH-ZnO NWs) was investigated as compared with ZnO nanowires (ZnO NWs) by using theoretical and experimental approaches. For this purpose, surface of the BH-ZnO NWs and ZnO NWs were modified by thin layers of methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS). The MTMS thickness was optimized by varying NH4F (0, 5, 10, 20 μL) as used catalyst. The highest water contact angle (WCA) was measured at about 153 ± 3°...

    Abstract
Application of Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) to a Uranium hexafluoride (UF 6) production process is presented in this paper. The process is constituted from three main units: UF 4 conversion to UF 6, condensation of produced UF 6 gas and tail gas treatment. Radioactive gas is present in all parts of the process and occurrence of high pressure or high temperature in the process equipments may lead to radioactive release to workplace and environment. The work is mainly based on PSA experience in nuclear power plants. Accordingly for the process, eight group of Initiating Events (IE) that lead to UF 6 gas release have been identified using HAZOP study. For each IE, based on related...

    Abstract
In self-controlling hyperthermia therapy, once the desired temperature is reached, the heat generation ceases and overheating is prevented. In order to design a system that generates sufficient heat without thermal ablation of surrounding healthy tissue, a good understanding of temperature distribution and its change with time is imperative. This study is conducted to extend our understanding about the heat generation and transfer, temperature distribution and temperature rise pattern in the tumor and surrounding tissue during self-controlling magnetic hyperthermia. A model consisting of two concentric spheres that represents the tumor and its surrounding tissue is considered and temperature...

    Abstract
Background: The typical features of eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage are delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and prolonged loss of muscle strength. It has been shown that passive warmth is effective in reducing muscle injury. Due to the interaction of different systems in vivo, we used isolated perfused medial gastrocnemius skeletal muscle to study the direct effect of temperature on the eccentric contraction-induced force loss. Methods: After femoral artery cannulation of a rat, the left medial gastrocnemius muscle was separated and then the entire lower limb was transferred into a prewarmed (35oC) chamber. With the chamber temperature at 31, 35 and 39oC before and during eccentric...

    Abstract
Several evidences support the idea that a small population of tumour cells representing self-renewal potential are involved in initiation, maintenance, metastasis, and outcomes of cancer therapy. Elucidation of microRNAs/genes regulatory networks activated in cancer stem cells (CSCs) is necessary for the identification of new targets for cancer therapy. The aim of the present study was to predict the miRNAs pattern, which can target both metastasis and self-renewal pathways using integration of literature and data mining. For this purpose, mammospheres derived from MCF-7, MDA-MB231, and MDA-MB468 were used as breast CSCs model. They had higher migration, invasion, and colony formation...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ebrahimi, Mojtaba (Author) ; Miremadi, Ghasem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Ever increasing applications of embedded systems have motivated the designers to pay special attention to the design requirements of such systems. Among embedded applications, safety-critical systems have high reliability requirements as failures in such systems may endanger human life or result in catastrophic consequences. Embedded processors as the computation cores of embedded systems are very crucial from reliability point of view. This is because; a failure in the processor most probably leads to a system failure. One effective way to protect embedded processors against environmental faults is to use system level fault-tolerant techniques such as Master/Checker (M/C) or Triple Modular...
