    Abstract
In order to evaluate the dynamic behavior of floating offshore wind turbines, the authors consider two approaches. A numerical method is used to investigate Tension Leg Platform (TLP) offshore wind turbine response behavior under a parked condition. This code considers nonlinearities due to changes in the tension of tethers. The off-diagonal components of stiffness, damping and mass matrices are considered to calculate coupling. This code solves the nonlinear equation of motion at each time step. However, in order to validate the data generated by the code, a scaled-down model was fully tested in the marine laboratory. The importance of these series of experiments is due to the fact that...

A simple method for derivation of the rovibrational hamiltonian: Application to orthogonal radau coordinate systems as special cases

    , Article Journal of the Iranian Chemical Society ; Volume 7, Issue 1 , 2010 , Pages 77-83 ; 1735207X (ISSN) Ebrahimi, H. P ; Tafazzoli, M ; Islampour, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The molecular Hamiltonian of polyatomic molecules has been obtained. A general choice of internal coordinates depending on external parameters was considered. The rovibrational Hamiltonian for this set of coordinate system was derived in general terms as a function of the external parameters a and b. This procedure is also applicable to various kinds of internal coordinates in a straightforward way. The rovibrational Hamiltonian of triatomic molecules is considered as an application of this general formulation. In addition, orthogonal Radau coordinates are considered as cases of this new approach

sp 2/sp 3 bonding ratio dependence of the band-gap in graphene oxide

    , Article European Physical Journal B ; Volume 92, Issue 4 , 2019 ; 14346028 (ISSN) Akbari, E ; Akbari, I ; Ebrahimi, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer Heidelberg  2019
    Abstract
Abstract: Although the band-gap in pure graphene is zero, the oxygenated graphene could have a considerable band-gap. The D/G peak intensity ratio is known as a measure of the size of sp3∕sp2 domains in graphene oxide (GO) sheets and determines the band-gap in GO sheets. Characterization results showed that the photoluminescence (PL) spectra of GO suspensions has a peak at ~604 nm and also the I(D)/I(G) intensity ratio of GO suspensions is 1.73. After reduction, a redshift appeared at PL spectrum (at 650 nm) and the I(D)/I(G) intensity ratio decrease to 1.26. Our results showed that the band-gap in GO is related to the I(D)/I(G) intensity ratio of GO suspensions and offers a mechanism for...

    Abstract
In this article by employing the principle of continuum damage mechanics and solving the governing equations using finite element technique, the damage process in a composite media like a human long bone has been studied. To do this, primarily a CT scan of a femur is converted to proper model usable for a F.E. model. After applying load incrementally with monotonic nature, the state of stress or strain in each element and consequently in medium are calculated using finite element software. Based on the principle of continuum damage and the value of stress in each element, the damage rate is calculated and the mechanical properties at that point are updated for the next step of loading. This...

    Abstract
Today, from information security perspective, prevention methods are not enough solely. Early Warning Systems (EWSs) are in the category of reactive methods. These systems are complementing Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) where their main goals include early detection of potential malicious behavior in large scale environments such as national level. An important process in EWSs is the analysis and correlation of alerts aggregated from the installed sensors (e.g., IDSs, IP telescopes, and botnet detection systems). In this paper, an efficient framework for alert correlation in EWSs is proposed. The framework includes a correlation scheme based on a combination of statistical and stream...

    Abstract
Blur identification is one important part of image restoration process. Linear motion blur is one of the most common degradation functions that corrupts images. Since 1976, many researchers tried to estimate motion blur parameters and this problem is solved in noise free images but in noisy images improvement can be done when image SNR is low. In this paper we have proposed a method to estimate motion blur parameters such as direction and length using Radon transform and Feed-Forward back propagation neural network for noisy images. To design the desired neural network, we used Weierstrass approximation theorem and Steifel reference Sets. The experimental results showed algorithm precision...

    Abstract
A transcritical carbon dioxide (T-CO2) cycle is analyzed for waste heat recovery from a gas turbine. The cycle is proposed to produce combined power and cooling using carbon dioxide as a single pure working fluid. Simple, cascade and split cycle configurations are compared for power generation using a recuperator while a low-temperature loop is added for the cascade and split cycles. In a previous report in the literature the power generation part alone was presented for the three configurations and it was concluded that the split cycle can produce the highest power among the three systems. Here, the same configurations are studied combined with a compression refrigeration cooling effect...

    Abstract
Regarding the increasing number of electrical devices in the smart homes that leads to increase in total electricity consumption and cost, it is essential to use energy management methods to reduce the electricity cost. However, this can cause resident's dissatisfaction. Hence, it is important to define a method in which cost and dissatisfaction be optimized simultaneously. Among different services, an electric vehicle is the one that can be used as an energy storage system, so it can reduce the daily cost despite of increasing the total energy consumption. In this paper, we study the effect of the EV on the cost and dissatisfaction in our proposed method. © 2018 IEEE

Investigation of a mutual interaction force at different pressure amplitudes in sulfuric acid

    , Article Chinese Physics B ; Volume 20, Issue 8 , 2011 ; 16741056 (ISSN) Rezaee, N ; Sadighi Bonabi, R ; Mirheydari, M ; Ebrahimi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
This paper investigates the secondary Bjerknes force for two oscillating bubbles in various pressure amplitudes in a concentration of 95% sulfuric acid. The equilibrium radii of the bubbles are assumed to be smaller than 10 μm at a frequency of 37 kHz in various strong driving acoustical fields around 2.0 bars (1 bar=10 5 Pa). The secondary Bjerknes force is investigated in uncoupled and coupled states between the bubbles, with regard to the quasi-adiabatic model for the bubble interior. It finds that the value of the secondary Bjerknes force depends on the driven pressure of sulfuric acid and its amount would be increased by liquid pressure amplitude enhancement. The results show that the...

    Abstract
Radiation-induced multiple event transients (METs) are expected to become more frequent than single event transients (SETs) at nanoscale CMOS technology nodes. In this paper, a fast and accurate layout-based soft error rate (SER) assessment technique with consideration of both SET and MET fault models is presented. Despite existing techniques in which the adjacent MET sites are extracted from a logic-level netlist, we conduct a comprehensive layout analysis to obtain MET adjacent cells. Experimental results reveal that the layout-based technique is the only viable solution for identification of the adjacent cells as netlist-based techniques considerably underestimate the overall SER....

    Abstract
The Adomian decomposition method (ADM) can provide analytical approximation or approximated solution to a rather wide class of nonlinear (and stochastic) equations without linearization, perturbation, closure approximation, or discretization methods. In the present work, ADM is employed to solve the momentum and energy equations for laminar boundary layer flow over flat plate at zero incidences with neglecting the frictional heating. A trial and error strategy has been used to obtain the constant coefficient in the approximated solution. ADM provides an analytical solution in the form of an infinite power series. The effect of Adomian polynomial terms is considered and shows that the...

    Abstract
Using solid-state power amplifiers for next generation of weather radars becomes feasible by pulse compression techniques. In this study a 1.5 kW solid-state power amplifier (transmitter) for C-band weather radars is designed and fabricated by GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) technology. An experimental setup based on heterodyne receiver with 16-bit digitiser is developed to investigate the behavior of the power amplifier under different cooling methods and back-off points. Several measurements with shaped LFM pulse show an approximately identical pulse to pulse (P2P) stability for 3 dB compression, P1dB and 2 dB back-off points while the best sidelobe level (SLL) is achieved for...

A practical scheme for transmission loss allocation to generators and loads in restructured power systems

    Abstract
This paper presents a practical scheme that can be used for allocating the transmission loss to generators and loads. In this scheme first the share of a generator or load on the current through a branch is determined using Z-bus modified matrix. Then the current components are decomposed and the branch loss allocation is obtained. A motivation of proposed scheme is to improve the results of Z-bus method and to reach more fair allocation. The proposed scheme has been implemented and tested on several networks. To achieve practical and applicable results, the proposed scheme is simulated and compared on the transmission network (400kv) of Khorasan region in Iran and the 14-bus standard IEEE...

    Abstract
Isotropic tensor valued functions of tensor arguments play an important role in the formulation of the equations governing the behavior of solid materials in the field of continuum mechanics. When the tensor argument is non-symmetric, the complexity and the difficulty in dealing with the tensor functions are high. In this work, the issue of expressing an isotropic tensor valued tensor function of a non-symmetric tensor argument is attention by utilizing the Dunford-Taylor integral. An important subclass of the isotropic tensor functions is considered with the commutative property

    Abstract
This paper is devoted to the design of a port Hamiltonian controller for different scenarios of brachiation movement by a two-link bio-inspired robot called brachiating robot. A unified technique for trajectory tracking control problem of nonholonomic (drift-less) port Hamiltonian systems was introduced in the past, which exploits a generalized canonical transformation to form an error system in order to convert the trajectory tracking problem into a stabilization one. Although the method is novel and promising, only fully actuated systems are considered and success of the approach relies on the possibility of solving a set of partial differential equations (PDEs). Considering the fact that...
