    Abstract
Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia, which has been recognized as the seventh most common fatal disease in the elderly over 65 years of age. Despite all the research done to recognize and treat this disease, so far there is no cure for this disease, and even most of the chemical treatments that are prescribed for Alzheimer's patients are only effective towards reducing the symptoms of this disease and lose their effectiveness as it progresses. Therefore, in the last two decades, in order to find a way to better understand and even treat AD, scientists have reached a concept called brain frequency stimulation, which can improve people's cognitive performance without the...

The Effect of Social Security on Retirement Decision in Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khosroshahi, Amir Reza (Author) ; Nili, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main question of this thesis is if and to what extent does the Social Security retirement benefits cause early retirement. This is important because the more individuals are willing to retire earlier, the larger are the Social Security liabilities to pay the retirement benefts, and also it means that more people are leaving the labor force, hence a lower labor force participation. The research was conducted on a sample of men extracted from the Social Security Or-ganization data sets, employing Option Value and Peak Value models to estiamte a binary choice model. The results indicate that Social Security (in the form of retirement benefits) have a significant effect on retirement ...

The present study aims to evaluate the performance of a common metal damper consisted of triangular metal plates known as “Triangular Added Damping And Stiffness” (TADAS). In this investigation, the performance of TADAS, in an eight story irregular in plan steel structure, is extensively considered. A 3-D...

Bukan Reservoir Station Inflow and Rainfall Forecasting Model Using Deep Learning Algorithms

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirzaei, Amir Mohammad (Author) ; Tajrishi, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The amount of water entering the dam is one of the types of information that has a direct impact on how to plan the discharge and storage of the dam's water supply. Given the precise input streamflow predictions of the next few days, the corresponding authorities can better manage the amount of water that should remain in the storage in the days to come. In this regard, it is no longer necessary to release huge amounts of stored water due to the lack of information on the volume of water entering. Consequently, the volume of water stored in the reservoir, increases. Also, the probability of occurrence of potential hazards such as dam overflow is prevented.Over the last few years, due to the...

    Abstract
Art is one of the most dynamic and turbulent areas of human life; Where the artist sees his work as creation and every moment puts a new curtain in front of man. But these artistic creations do not all meet the same fate. Some make noise; But they pass very soon and do not leave a trace of themselves in anyone's mind and heart. Some others capture many lives and remain in the historical memory of people. What is the secret of this difference? To answer this question, the current research focuses on the field of music. We want to answer the question of how some innovations in the field of music fit in the mind of the audience and some of them disappear in a short period of time and are...

Graph Learning from Incomplete and Noisy Graph Signals

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Daghestani, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Babaiezadeh, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The problem of inferring a graph from a set of graph signals over it plays a crucial role in the field of Graph Signal Processing (GSP). When provided with a graph that best models the structure of data, the GSP algorithms can offer high data processing capability. However, a meaningful graph of data is not always available, hence in some applications, the graph needs to be learned from the data itself. When the data is corrupted and missing, this task becomes even more challenging. In this paper, we present a graph learning algorithm that is capable of learning the underlying structure of data from an incomplete and noisy dataset of graph signals. We propose an algorithm that jointly...

Determination of Domain of Attraction in Active Magnetic Bearing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Eshaghi, Jafar (Author) ; Mobed, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Magnetic bearings have been introduced in recent decades to overcome the problem of energy loses due to friction in bearings of rotating machinery. In magnetic bearings, the rotor is suspended by magnetic forces without any friction. These bearings are of the two types of passive and active. In Passive Magnetic Bearings (PMB), magnetic forces are generated by permanent magnets and have the ability to tolerate a small distribution. In Active Magnetic Bearings (AMB) magnetic forces are generated by electromagnets and have the ability to tolerate larger distributions than the PMB can. Since AMB is inherently unstable, it is necessary to use controllers to stabilize it. Due to the nonlinear...

Arbitrary Discontinuities in Transient Dynamic Finite Element Modeling Using the Level Set and X-FEM Techniques

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khaleghi, Maryam (Author) ; Khoei, Amir Reza (Supervisor) ; Mofid, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In computational mechanic, paying attention to new methods of problem solving is very important. These approaches can offer more desirable results than the standard finite element method. The extended finite element method (X-FEM) is one of them, which is applied in modeling of discontinuities, singularities, crack propagation and etc. In this method, we do not need to align the element edge with the boundary of discontinuity. It means that the elements can be cut by interface (enriched elements) in the discontinuity boundary. One of the difficulties in (X-FEM) is blending elements, which happens in elements that are blended to enriched element that can decrease the convergence rate. The...

    Abstract
In the present paper, we introduce the generalized fractional-order control systems with the regularized Prabhakar fractional derivative and investigate the BIBO stability for this kind of systems. For such kind of systems with step functions at their inputs, we establish some conditions imposed on the parameters of the corresponding fractional-order transfer functions under which the steady state error is zero and the performance indices are finite. Further, in order to examine the analytical obtained results, several generalized fractional-order transfer functions are considered. Then, we show that the parameters of the regularized Prabhakar fractional derivative play significant roles in...

    Abstract
A fiber coating from polyaniline (PANI) was electrochemically prepared and employed for solid phase microextraction (SPME) of some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from water samples. The PANI film was directly electrodeposited on the platinum wire surface in sulfuric acid solution using cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. The applicability of this coating was assessed employing a laboratory-made SPME device and gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for the extraction of some PAHs from the headspace of aqueous samples. Application of wider potential range in CV led to a PANI with more stability against the temperature. The homogeneity and the porous surface structure of the...
