Abstract
The respiratory system is a vital organ system which makes breathing and gas exchange possible for human's body. The loss of functionality in this system is due to either genetical problems or environmental issues like pollution or toxic gases which in many cases is inevitable. These circumstances may cause different respiratory diseases which may not be curable presently but their side effects can be partly controlled by careful and timely analysis improving the quality of patient's life. So, an appropriate device for conducting different analysis can be effective for people who suffer from respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, occupational lung...

Abstract
Electroactive-Polymers (EAPs) are one of the best soft $mu $ -actuators with great biomedical applications. Ionic ones (i-EAPs) have more promising features and have adequate potential for using in the active microfluidic devices. Here, as a case study, we have designed and fabricated a microfluidic micromixer using an i-EAP named Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite (IPMC). In microfluidics, active devices have more functionality but due to their required facilities are less effective for Point of Care Tests (POCTs). In the direction of solving this paradox, we should use some active components that they need minimum facilities. IPMC can be one of these components, hence by integrating the IPMC...
Algebraic Topology Metheds on Graph Coloring
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Jafari, Amir (Supervisor)
Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to introduce some algebraic topologies methods and apply them on fining the chromatic number of some famous graphs and also hypergraphs. In the first part, we will use a mixture of two well-known technics, Tucker lemma and Discrete Morse theory to find an upper bound for the chromatic number of s-stable Kneser for some specific vector s. to find the sharper upper bound, we will deviate our strategy and use another approach by finding an edge-labeling and apply some theorems in POSET algebraic topology. In this way, we also find a connection between Young diagrams and the numbers of spheres in the box complex related to Kneser graphs and hypergraph. Actually, we can...

Abstract
As microfluidic chips are evolving to become a significant analysis tool toward POCT devices, it is crucial to make the cost and the time required for the fabrication process of these chips as low as possible. Because of the multidisciplinary nature of these systems and the collaboration of many different laboratories and organizations from vastly various fields with unequal types of equipment, it is essential to develop new techniques and materials to make the integration of disparate systems together more straightforward, accessible, and economical. In this paper, we present ethylene–vinyl acetate (EVA) as a new polymer-based material for the fabrication of different microfluidic chips,...

Abstract
Fossil fuels provide the most needs of the world's energy, however, continues to lead to two key problems. The first problem is their limitation, and the second problem is the creation of serious environmental issues. Therefore, the need for renewable energy sources is felt more than ever.As an energy source, hydrogen is the lightest, most efficient and cleanest fuel. One of its unique properties is efficiency, the production of electricity by fuel cells through the electrochemical process, has far greater efficiency than of mechanical energy production from fossil fuels in internal combustion engines or energy production in thermal power plants. A fuel cell is a device that converts...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Fannaei, Hammid Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
All known examples of homogeneous Einstein spaces with negative scalar curvature (non compact) are isometric to standard Einstein solvmanifolds . we prove that any nilpotent Lie algebra having a codimension-one abelian ideal is the nilradical of a rank –one Einstein solvmanifold . In other words this nilpotent Lie algebra admits a rank-one solvable extension which can be endowed with an Einstein left invariant Riemannian metric . also a curve of pairwise non-isometric 8-dimensional rank-one Einstein solvmanifold is given .

Abstract
A Non-rigid Air Flow Active Sensor (NAFAS) to detect the respiratory patterns is introduced in this paper. The main part of NAFAS is an ionic electroactive polymer-based ( ${i}$ -EAP) soft sensor. It can accurately detect breathing patterns and has promising features to develop low cost, wearable, and ubiquitous spirometers. Patients with respiratory diseases need to take pulmonary function tests consistently. Hence, it is time-consuming and expensive. To address these problems, NAFAS presents point-of-care testing (POCT) of the respiratory system's function. The proposed ${i}$ -EAP based sensor is a small strip of Ionic Polymer Metal Composite (IPMC) that has been fabricated using a Nafion...

Abstract
Actuator limitations hinder high-performance control of robotic manipulators. The problem is particularly challenging in case of underactuated robots where the issue has received less attention. In this brief, we investigate stabilization of manipulators under input constraints via total energy shaping. For this purpose, we use interconnection and damping assignment passivity-based control (IDA-PBC) together with an optimization technique to keep actuator torque close to allowable limits. Using a subsequent technique, the actuator torques are ensured to stay within the specified bounds for special classes of manipulators. The results are verified through simulations on a 2 degree-of-freedom...

Abstract
In this paper, we will investigate the efficacy of IMAT (Iterative Method of Adaptive Thresholding) in recovering the sparse signal (parameters) for linear models with random missing data. Sparse recovery rises in compressed sensing and machine learning problems and has various applications necessitating viable reconstruction methods specifically when we work with big data. This paper will mainly focus on comparing the power of Iterative Method of Adaptive Thresholding (IMAT) in reconstruction of the desired sparse signal with that of LASSO. Additionally, we will assume the model has random missing information. Missing data has been recently of interest in big data and machine learning...

Abstract
In this paper, we introduce a novel and robust approach to quantized matrix completion. First, we propose a rank minimization problem with constraints induced by quantization bounds. Next, we form an unconstrained optimization problem by regularizing the rank function with Huber loss. Huber loss is leveraged to control the violation from quantization bounds due to two properties: first, it is differentiable; and second, it is less sensitive to outliers than the quadratic loss. A smooth rank approximation is utilized to endorse lower rank on the genuine data matrix. Thus, an unconstrained optimization problem with differentiable objective function is obtained allowing us to advantage from...

Abstract
The ultra-supercritical once-through boiler (OTB) unit is an advanced power generation technology with high plant efficiency and low emissions. However, it is difficult to realize a coordinate control for the ultra-supercritical OTB unit to achieve the fast and stable dynamic response during the load tracking and grid frequency disturbances and in the presence of unavoidable uncertainties. In this paper, an accurate grey box multivariable coupled nonlinear model of an ultra-supercritical boiler-turbine unit is considered. Steam pressure at throttle valve, specific enthalpy in separator and active power are adjusted at desired values by manipulation of the fuel rate command, feedwater rate...

Abstract
The relationship between art and philosophy has been disputed for a long time and its history goes back to the ancient Greece. The dominant literary form at that time was poetry or tragedy, which are the first side of this relationship. On the other side was philosophical ethics. Plato and Aristotle are the main protagonists in this quarrel, which is known as the "Ancient Quarrel". I will first examine this quarrel and follow its different forms in the modern era, in which Hegel plays a prominent role by proposing the "end of art" thesis. By examining the criticisms made to this thesis, I will make clear the context in which the contemporary defenses that I explained in the following...
Optimal Energy Management of Microgrids using Quantum Teaching Learning Based Algorithm
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Hosseini, Hamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
The most important challenge in microgrids is the coordination of distributed energy resources (DERs), due to the existence of several DERs with fugacious characteristics. Also, energy management in the microgrid is very important because there may be conflicting needs or poor communication between different elements of the microgrid. In this work, a robust frame associated with a quantum version of the Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization (quantum TLBO) algorithm is proposed for the first time to the microgrid optimal energy management problem. Uncertainties in the load and in the output power of renewable energy sources are modeled using robust optimization (RO). The operation cost of the...
