    Abstract
In order to prevent deterioration of metallic interconnects in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), while interacting with glass-ceramic sealant, a nickel electroplated ferritic stainless steel (UNS 430) was used. After applying a layer of powdered glass (SiO2-B2O3-Al2O3-Na2O-BaO-K2O) with thickness around 300-450 μm on the ferritic stainless steel sheets with dimansion of 0.5 × 60 × 60 mm and 0.5 × 10 × 10 mm, samples were heated at temperatures between 770-850 °C and durations of 1 to 15 hours. To evaluate the effect of the Ni layer, two types of sample (only sanded and only electropolished) were also submitted to the same process, and their results were compared with the coated samples. XRF,...

    , Article International Journal of Knowledge Management Studies ; Volume 2, Issue 4 , 2008 , Pages 426-444 ; 17438268 (ISSN) Qazvinian, V ; Sharif Hassanabadi, L ; Halavati, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Automatic text summarisation has long been studied and used. The growth in the amount of information on the web results in more demands for automatic methods for text summarisation. Designing a system to produce human-quality summaries is difficult and therefore, many researchers have focused on sentence or paragraph extraction, which is a kind of summarisation. In this paper, we introduce a new method to make such extracts. GeneticAlgorithm (GA)-based sentence selection is used to make a summary, and once the summary is created, it is evaluated using a fitness function. The fitness function is based on three following factors: Readability Factor (RF), Cohesion Factor (CF) and Topic-Relation...

Feasibility Study on Ultrasonic Vibration Assisted Milling Process of BK7 Optical Glass

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jamshidi Hassanabadi, Ali (Author) ; Akbari, Javad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This research studies the feasibility of the BK7 optical glass milling process with ultrasonic vibrations. Due to the fragility of glasses, especially optical glasses, machining is very sensitive and complex. For this reason, it is necessary to think for the glass machiners to minimize the defects and failures of the process. So far, efforts have been made to reduce the defects caused by machining on brittle materials, such as increasing the speed of the period, reducing the feed rate of the tool, changing the geometry and the type of tool, the type of process lubrication, etc. In addition, other operations performed to improve the surface of the glass are of better quality, using hybrid or...

Simulation of Water Inside Carbon Nanotubes

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sadeghi Hassanabadi, Mohsen (Author) ; Parsafar, Gholam Abass (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis presents a research on the physical behavior of water inside carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Molecular simulations are carried out using the Monte Carlo method in the canonical and grand canonical ensembles. Due to the difference between the inter-molecular forces in the axial and radial directions, the anisotropic pressure tensor is calculated for water confined inside the CNTs with the diameters of 0.88, 1.08, 1.28, and 1.48 nm at different densities using the Monte Carlo simulations. Using the assumption of effective extended Lennard-Jones interactions between the nearest neighbors, a set of new equations of state for water confined inside the CNTs is derived and shown to be...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hassanabadi, Mohammad Amin (Author) ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, Mahmud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In today's world, where consumers are increasingly demanding high-quality electricity supply, particularly with minimal outages and the highest continuity of power delivery, considering reliability indices in distribution system expansion planning models is essential. To simultaneously meet the requirements of both economic and reliability criteria for distribution networks, planning models need to assess the reliability of active distribution networks throughout the optimization process. In order to achieve a reliable plan, it is necessary to integrate the reliability evaluation of the network into the distribution planning problem. This thesis presents an effective model for distribution...

    , Article Applied Mathematical Modelling ; Volume 37, Issue 18-19 , 2013 , Pages 8543-8556 ; 0307904X (ISSN) Ebrahimzadeh Hassanabadi, M ; Nikkhoo, A ; Vaseghi Amiri, J ; Mehri, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
In this article, OPSEM (Orthonormal Polynomial Series Expansion Method) is developed as a new computational approach for the evaluation of thin beams of variable thickness transverse vibration. Capability of the OPSEM in assessing the free vibration frequencies and mode shapes of an Euler-Bernoulli beam with varying thickness is discussed. Multispan continuous beams with various classical boundary conditions are included. Contribution of BOPs (Basic Orthonormal Polynomials) in capturing the beam vibrations is also illustrated in numerical examples to give a quantitative measure of convergence rate. Furthermore, OPSEM is adopted for the forced vibration of a thin beam caused by a moving mass....

A new simplified formula in prediction of the resonance velocity for multiple masses traversing a thin beam

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 23, Issue 1 , 2016 , Pages 133-141 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Afghani Khoraskani, R ; Mofid, M ; Eftekhar Azam, S ; Ebrahimzadeh Hassanabadi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2016
    Abstract
In this article, transverse vibration of an Euler-Bernoulli beam carrying a series of traveling masses is analyzed. A semi-analytical approach based on eigenfunction expansion method is employed to achieve the dynamic response of the beam. The inertia of the traveling masses changes the fundamental period of the base beam. Therefore, a comprehensive parametric survey is required to reveal the resonance velocity of the traversing inertial loads. In order to facilitate resonance detection for engineering practitioners, a new simplified formula is proposed to approximate the resonance velocity

    Abstract
The possible interactions near the triple-phase boundaries (TPB) metal/glass/air, and their effects on joint strength are investigated. Two types of samples (joined couples and glass coated coupons) are prepared with the coupon of AISI 430 (nickel plated and uncoated) and a slurry of compliant silicate sealing glass (SCN-1). The joined and coated samples are heated at 850 °C for 1000 h in air. The joined couples are cooled using two different schedules and then tested in uniaxial tension. For investigating the metal-oxides precipitation procedure in glass near the TPB, glass coated coupons are either cooled at the rate of 5 °C min−1 or water-quenched from aging temperature. The mechanical...

    , Article Ceramics International ; Volume 43, Issue 15 , 2017 , Pages 12546-12550 ; 02728842 (ISSN) Fakouri Hasanabadi, M ; Faghihi Sani, M. A ; Kokabi, A. H ; Malzbender, J ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
A torsion test recently implemented for solid oxide fuel cell sealant materials is analyzed as a method for measuring the shear strength of sealant for solid oxide fuel cells. The finite element method is used to simulate the stress distribution in the hourglass-shaped steel specimens with intermediate sealant layer with different specimen's dimensions and configurations. Also, it is analyzed how stress concentration changes if the sealant does not completely fill the gap or is squeezed out of gap. The reduction of seal thickness to outer radius ratio results in an increase in stress concentration at the outer edge of sealant. The developed specimens with a hollow halve steel plate as well...

Long Term Effective Factors on House Price of Metropolises of Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moeeni, Safoura (Author) ; Nili, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The notable share of housing sector in GDP (approximately five percent) shows this sector’s relation with macroeconomic activities. On the other hand, House as an asset leads housing sector to be affected by monetary and fiscal variables. A dynamic panel data was used in this study to evaluate the relations between housing sector and some macroeconomic variables in metropolises of Iran. As results show, in long term growth of liquidity, GDP per capita and sharp ratio have positive effects, and land per capita has negative effect on housing price in metropolises of Iran. Price increases have not been equal in different cities. Inequality of land price between metropolises and between...

We conclude these government interventions have affected Iran informal economy and their influence is more than indirect interventions influence such as taxation. The estimated index of Iran...

Water Quality Modeling of Urban Streams

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soltani, Maryam (Author) ; Tajrishy, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With altering natural state and increasing impervious surfaces, traditional urbanization leads to deteriorating the environment and water catchments. During the years most efforts in order to control the urban runoff outflow, have been focused on quantity; and awareness about improving water quality has been raised just in the last few years and, which emphasizes on pollution source control. Standard water quality sampling methods are time consuming, expensive and because of sampling in broad geographic areas, difficult; however modeling is a more efficient way in assessing water quality and as worries about non-point source pollution grows, different kinds of models have been used to...

The Political Economy Aspects of the Redistributive Role of Government in a General Equilibrium Micro-founded Macro Model

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zakeri, Hassan (Author) ; Nili, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The role of government in economy has been a controversial subject in economics. Lately, there has been some fundamental change in evaluating this subject. One could mention two of these as 1) realizing the importance of micro-founded macro model for evaluating policy, and 2) taking into consideration the rent-seeking behavior of politicians. In this research, a general equilibrium in a micro-founded macro model will be discussed and then in political economics framework, the effect of government on this equilibrium will be investigated. Only the redistribution role of government has been considered. First, the model in which a benevolent government is seeking optimal policy is Discussed....

Measurement of Gini Coefficients by Means of Household’s Special CPI in Iran(1984-2005)

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghasemi, Mojtaba (Author) ; Nili, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Gini coefficient is the most prevalent index for the measurement of inequality and is usually extracted by means of nominal variables based on income or expenditures of households. In this study we have extracted more accurate Gini coefficients. By using the raw data of Households Budget Survey (HBS) and STATA software, a special CPI for each household of the sample is extracted. Subsequently nominal expenditures are deflated by these special CPIs, and at last, Gini coefficients are extracted from real expenditures. Our findings indicate that in recent years, extracted Gini coefficients are remarkably higher than prevailing ones.

Parametric Evaluation of the Y- Shaped Bracing Frame and Introducing a New Method for Design

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sedaghati, Parshan (Author) ; Mofid, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This paper investigates the behavior of the Y-shaped bracing system. Because of the special type of eccentricity in this system, the behavior of the frame is strongly dependent on the geometrical changes of the braces. So that even in the elastic region, it shows the geometrically nonlinear behavior. The amount of eccentricity is very effective on the nonlinear behavior of the frame. Also the ratio of cross sections of the bracing members has a very important impact on the expected performance of the frame. The results show that this system tolerates large displacements, and can act like a base isolation system. Firstly, using a two-dimensional accurate modeling related to the geometrical...
