Minimizing the Error of Set Point Tracking in MIMO Plants with Broken Actuators
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Haeri, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Fault occurrence is an inevitable problem in industrial plants. These faults have numerous types. Some common kinds of faults are faults in actuators, faults in system dynamics, and faults in sensors. In many cases it is not possible to change or repair the broken part immediately. On the other hand, it is not reasonable to shut-down the whole system due to a minor failure. Therefore we should take a measure to have the best output possible in a faulty plant. In this thesis we have proposed a new static compensator by which we distribute the contribution of the faulty actuator among the other ones. At the end we evaluate the method by means of simulations
Development of Particulate Zinc-Iron/PTFE Composite and Nanocomposite Coatings Using Electrodeposition
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Electrodeposition is an old, well known and conventional science surface modification method to improve the surface characteristics, decorative and functional, of a wide variety of materials. This science is considered in nanotechnology as a bottom-up method for fabrication of one, two and three-dimensional nanomaterials. A great variety of secondary components can be added to plating baths resulting in metallic matrix composite and nanocomposite coatings production. Low amounts of iron addition for alloying zinc coatings, significantly increases the corrosion resistance of this generally used metal economically. Superhydrophobic coatings on metallic substrates have shown, during the past...
Determining the Strength of Barrier Coverage in Wireless Sensor Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghodsi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Given a set of obstacles as an arrangement of geometric shapes in the plane, we would like to find a path from the initial point s to the target point t that crosses the minimum number of obstacles. In other words, the goal is to determine the minimum number of obstacles that need to be removed to exist a collision-free path between s and t.On one hand, this problem can be used for measuring the strength of barrier coverage which is a fundamental concept in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), and on the other hand, it has been considered as a robot motion-planning problem. The objective of barrier coverage is to guarantee that any path from the start point to the target point, will intersect at...
Surface Waves Propagation in a Piezoelectric/Piezomagnetic Half Space Overlaid With a Finnite Layer
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Skandari, Morteza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The propagation of the surface waves in the piezoelectric (PE) and piezomagnetic (PM) layered media are studied. The surface BG waves in the PE half-spaces overlaid by a layer are considered and the closed-form dispersion relations for the open and short electromechanical surface boundary conditions are obtained. The numerical results for the phase velocities and the electromechanical coupling factor for PZT-2 and PZT-8 media are presented. Furthermore, the propagation of the Rayleigh waves in the PE-PM layered media is considered. The effects of the imperfect bonding between the half-space and the layer are discussed. Later, we study the propagation of the Rayleigh waves in 4 different...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rahmati, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
This study examin the effect of relationship lending on the contract terms of the loans consist of loan rate, avalibility of the loan and collateral reqierements. For this purpose, we use 4850 data of loan granted by GHavamin bank in three months Farvardin, Ordibehesht and KHordad in 1395. The results of this study indicate relationship lending has a negative significant effect on the loan rate, a positive significant effect on the availability of the loan and positive insignificant effect on the collateral requirements. Thus, relationship lending as a solution for information asymmetry, leading to cost advantage for the banks. Banks transfer this advantage to client by lowering the loan...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Saidi, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor) ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
The main purpose of this work is investigation of coolability of a boiling debris bed. The main governing equations are derived using volume averaging technique. From this technique some specific interfacial areas between phases are appeared and proper relations for modeling these areas are proposed. Using these specific areas, a modification for the Tung/Dhir model in the annular flow regime is proposed. The proposed modification is validated and the agreements with experimental data are good. Finally, governing equations and relations are implemented in the THERMOUS program to model two-phase flow in the debris bed in the axisymmetric cylindrical coordinate. Two typical configurations...
Vehicle Routing Problem with Simultaneous Pickup and Delivery and Maximum Tour Time Length Constraint
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Akbari Jokar, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The Vehicle Routing Problem with Simultaneous Pick-up and Delivery (VRPSPD) and maximum time for traversing of each tour is a variant of the classical vehicle routing problem (VRP) where clients require simultaneous delivery and pick-up. Deliveries are supplied from a single depot at the beginning of the vehicle’s service, while pick-up loads are taken to the same depot at the conclusion of the service. Also the required time for traversing each route should not encroach the specified limit.
In this research, the aforesaid problem was introduced and a mixed integer programming model developed for it. Because of being NP-Hard and impossibility of solving it in the large instances, two...

Vortex Dynamics in Magnetic Phase Diagram of High Tc Cuprate Oxides
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Khosroabadi, Hossein (Supervisor) ; Akhavan, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the 1950s, Abrikosov predicted the mixed state in superconductors (type II superconductors) which lead to a Noble Prize in 2003 with the experimental verification by shubnikov. Mixed-state is a network of magnetic flux lines with quantized flux (vortices) in superconductors. High-temperature superconductors are of Type II which the existense of vortices in a significant part of the temperature-field phase diagram of them, is an obvious phenomenon. These superconductors provided a proper context for understanding physical phenomena related to vortices and access to experimental data to compare with those provided by statistical mechanics. Vortices can move inside the superconductor by the...
Bayesian Model Class Selection and Peobabilistic System Identification Considering Model Complexity
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Mahsuli, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
Abstract
This research proposes a Bayesian model selection framework using the stochastic filtering for rapid Bayesian identification of structures under seismic excitations. Structural identification after an earthquake at a regional scale entails a high computational effort. For rapid damage detection on a regional scale, using simplified and low-cost structural models is preferred over complex finite element models, due to the large amount of information needed for finite element modeling of numerous structures within a region as well as the high computational cost of such models. Timoshenko beams, shear beams, and shear buildings are examples of simplified structural models used in this study to...

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Abbaspour Fard Tehrani, Majed (Supervisor) ; Seif, Mohammad Saeed (Supervisor)
Abstract
In recent years, planing boats have been used in more exposed areas, for instance as patrol boats, pilot boats, coast guard and small naval vessels. When such a small vessel operating in a rough-water environment, frequently experiences violent motions and vertical acceleration. Even on calm water, porpoising may occur and may be severe as the speed is increased. Operation of the crew, equipments and overall operability of the vessel always suffer from mentioned motions. In the present study, the impact of fixed and controlled interceptors on a planing crafts hydrodynamic and seakeeping quality is investigated through application of an experimental and theoretical methods. Two scaled-down...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Golafshani, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
Abstract
In order to improve the performance of structures against earthquake loads, engineers believe that both minimizing the rigidity and maximizing the ductility; can lead to minimization of the energy input of the structure. However, the minimized energy shall be depreciated as much as possible in different stories so that the damage to the main and Irreplaceable structural members remains as low as possible.
Steel with high strength and ductility is relatively an ideal material for this purpose; however, the ductility level of this material is much higher than that is normally in use. In order to have a better utilization of the steel ductility, RBS (Ribbed Bracing System) was invented in...

Design of a hybrid Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion with Solar Thermal Energy (OTEC-STE) system for energy production(case study: Oman sea region)
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Abbaspour Tehrani Fard, Majid (Supervisor)
Abstract
The ocean thermal energy conversion system is one of a variety of renewable marine energy that is made up of a thermodynamic cycle, and it uses the difference between the temperature of hot water at the ocean surface and cold water at the depths of the ocean to generate electricity. The closed cycle is one type in which the system uses a working fluid which its boiling point less than the boiling point of water. Increasing the temperature of the fluid inlet in the cycle increases the system efficiency, which has been applied in this study to increase the efficiency of the OTEC system. The required energy to increase this temperature has been achieved by adding a solar collector to this...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saeedi, Mohammad Hassan (Supervisor) ; Hakaki Fard, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, according to environmental issues and fuel economy in internal combustion engines, the tendency to use of electrical and hybrid-electrical propulsions has become more than the past. On the other hand, still there are some problems like distance and charge time in electrical propulsions. Among them there are Hybrid-electric propulsions that have the benefits of two other propulsions. These propulsions are classified into three categories: series, parallel and series-parallel.Propulsion hybridization will change the cooling system. Internal combustion engine, electric motors, inverter and batteries operate at different temperature levels. So more than one cooling circuit with its own...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Outokesh, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Karimi-Sabet, Javad (Supervisor) ; Norouzi, Ali (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
In the nuclear industry, gas centrifuges are considered of high importance for the purpose of uranium enrichment. Today, with advances in science and technology, the use of gas centrifuges for separating isotopes other than uranium, is so common. With respect to the use of conventional methods such as Pancake equation in calculating the velocity profile in centrifuges, it is needed that A^2=(MV^2)/2RT≫1 (M: Feed molecular weight; V: Peripheral speed of centrifuge; T: Mean temperature of feed; R: The universal constant of gases). While the molecular weight of the feed mixture gets lower, the A2 parameter gets closer to one. So, other methods for modeling the behavior of the gas in the...
