    The aim of this study was improvement of mechanical properties and grain refinem ent of aluminum 6061 alloy tubes by combining pre and post heat treatments with Tube Channel Pre ssing (TC P) as a new severe plastic deformation process.     Abstract
    The effect of heat treatment on the axial crushing behavior of thin-walled aluminum 6061 alloy tubes is studied in this work. For this purpose, thin-walled grooved specimens were subjected to different aging heat treatments to obtain different work hardening behaviors. Afterward, quasi-static axial compression tests were achieved to evaluate the crushing behavior. Additionally, a finite element method simulation was employed to determine the distributions of stress, strain, and imposed damage during axial compression.     Abstract
    The effects of die geometry on the deformation behavior of aluminum 6061 alloy tube in a novel severe plastic deformation (SPD) process called tube channel pressing (TCP) were studied using the Abaqus 6.10 software. Using the optimized die geometry, 1 to 3 passes of TCP is imposed not only to validate the simulation results, but also to investigate the performance of TCP as a SPD process. The finite element method (FEM) simulation results show that the moderated plastic strain, the lower inhomogeneity in distribution of plastic strain, and the lower risk of fracture during process can be obtained using the proper die geometry.     Abstract
    The deformation behavior of solid solution-treated AA6061 tubes in a novel severe plastic deformation process named Tube Channel Pressing has been assessed. In order to do so, an analysis based on the finite element method and dislocation density model is utilized, and microhardness measurement is carried out to verify the trends of analysis results. By comparing FEM results with experimental data, the optimized geometrical parameters controlling the deformation behavior of the tube in tube channel pressing are determined to obtain the best strain homogeneity and minimum dimensional changes in tube

    The evolution of microstructure and the mechanical properties of an aluminum 6061 alloy tube subjected to a novel severe plastic deformation process called tube channel pressing were studied. Results show that the tube channel pressing causes an impressive grain refinement and strengthening of the material. As an illustration, mostly ultrafine grained tube (D-=760nm) bearing the yield strength of 352. MPa can be obtained after 5 passes of tube channel pressing. Additionally, the tube channel pressing causes the heterogeneous grain refinement resulting in a bimodal distribution of size of grains after 7th pass.     In this work, the 6061 aluminum alloy tubes are severely deformed through a novel method called Tube Channel Pressing (TCP). The ability of this process in improving mechanical properties, grain refinement and microstructural changes of the alloy with different heat treatments before and after TCP process is investigated. Results show that TCP has notable effect on grain refinement and decreases crystallite size of solid solution treated aluminum 6061 material to 52. nm after equivalent strain of 3.09 which is comparable with the measured data from other SPD processes.     Natural aging behavior of the aluminum 6061 alloy after a novel Severe Plastic Deformation process called Tube Channel Pressing (TCP) was studied. For this purpose, Vickers microhardness test was used to investigate the changes of mechanical properties while TEM and XRD observations were utilized in order to characterize microstructural evolution during natural aging.
