    , Article IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology ; Volume 60, Issue 3 , 2011 , Pages 1211-1216 ; 00189545 (ISSN) Ferdosizadeh Naeiny, M ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Selected mapping (SLM) is a well-known technique for peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) reduction of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In this technique, different representations of OFDM symbols are generated by rotation of the original OFDM frame by different phase sequences, and the signal with minimum PAPR is selected and transmitted. To compensate for the effect of the phase rotation at the receiver, it is necessary to transmit the index of the selected phase sequence as side information (SI). In this paper, an SLM technique is introduced for the PAPR reduction of space-frequency-block-coded OFDM systems with Alamouti coding scheme. Additionally, a suboptimum...

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 19, Issue 3 , June , 2012 , Pages 739-744 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Ferdosizadeh Naeiny, M ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Clipping and filtering is a well-known technique used at the transmitter side of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems to reduce the Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). In this paper, the extension of clipping and filtering to spatially multiplexed OFDM systems will be introduced. In the proposed scheme, the channel coding and clipping operations are performed at the transmitter branches independently. Based on this scheme, a receiver is proposed, which is based on the detection method of Nulling Cancellation (NC). In this method, the layer with the minimum average noise power over all subcarriers is selected and an iterative method is used to compensate for its clipping...

    PAPR Reduction in MIMO-OFDM Systems

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Ferdosizadeh Naeiny, Mahmoud (Author) ; Marvasti, Farrokh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, some algorithms for PAPR reduction of OFDM systems are investigated and some of these methods are extended to MIMO-OFDM systems. Two types of multiple antenna OFDM systems are considered; OFDM systems with spatial multiplexing for increasing the data rate and OFDM systems with spatial diversity for improvement of the symbol error rate. For the systems of the first type we have proposed two PAPR reduction algorithms. In the first method, the signals of transmitter antennas are clipped and filtered independently. Then, at the receiver side an iterative algorithm is proposed to compensate for the clipping noise. In the second method, we have extended TR method to spatial...

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics ; Volume 56, Issue 3 , October , 2010 , Pages 1643-1651 ; 00983063 (ISSN) Ferdosizadeh Naeiny, M ; Jafarnia Jahromi, A ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
In this paper, a metric based symbol predistortion method is introduced for Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) reduction of the Space Frequency Block Coded (SFBC) Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems with two transmitter antennas. In the proposed method, a metric is defined which shows the contribution of each frequency domain symbol to the time domain samples with high amplitude at both antennas. Then, the symbols with the highest metric values are chosen and predistorted such that the peak powers are reduced while the SFBC relationship between two antennas holds constant. Three variants of this method will be introduced. Then, this technique is extended to the general...

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 17, Issue 2 D , 2010 , Pages 196-204 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Ferdosizadeh Naeiny, M ; Jafarnia Jahromi, A ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
In this paper, the Active Constellation Extension (ACE) technique is applied to Space Frequency Block Coded (SFBC) OFDM systems to reduce the Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). For the extension of this technique to SFBC systems, it will be shown that the space frequency coded signals are the combination of several subframes and that the A CE method may be applied to these subframes. Using this model, an iterative ACE method, based on Projection Onto Convex Sets (POCS), is introduced. At each iteration, the time domain samples of the subframes are clipped based on their effect on the samples of all antennas. Then, the clipped subframes are filtered and the signals of the antennas are...

PAPR reduction of space-frequency coded OFDM systems using active constellation extension

    , Article AEU - International Journal of Electronics and Communications ; Volume 65, Issue 10 , 2011 , Pages 873-878 ; 14348411 (ISSN) Naeiny, M. F ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Active Constellation Extension (ACE) is one of the techniques introduced for Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) reduction of OFDM systems. In this technique, the constellation points are extended such that the PAPR is minimized but the minimum distance of the constellation points does not decrease. In this paper, an iterative ACE method is proposed for the PAPR reduction of OFDM systems with spatial diversity of Space Frequency Block Coding (SFBC). The proposed method is such that the PAPR is reduced simultaneously at all antennas, while the spatial encoding relationship still holds. In this method, at each iteration, the antenna with maximum PAPR is selected and the ACE algorithm is...

    , Article 13th European Signal Processing Conference, EUSIPCO 2005, Antalya, 4 September 2005 through 8 September 2005 ; 2005 , Pages 2210-2213 ; 1604238216 (ISBN); 9781604238211 (ISBN) Ferdosizadeh, M ; Babaie Zadeh, M ; Marvasti, F. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
In this paper, the performance of the gradient method based on Score Function Difference (SFD) in the separation of i.i.d. and periodic signals will be investigated. We will see that this algorithm will separate periodic signals better than i.i.d. ones. By using this experimental result and the fact that voiced frames of speech signals are approximately periodic, a modified algorithm named VDGaradient has been proposed for separation of speech signals in synthetic convolutive mixtures. In this method, voiced frames of speech signal will be used as the input to the gradient method, then the resulting separating system will be applied to separate sources completely

Impulsive noise cancellation based on soft decision and recursion

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement ; Volume 58, Issue 8 , 2009 , Pages 2780-2790 ; 00189456 (ISSN) Zahedpour, S ; Feizi, S ; Amini, A ; Ferdosizadeh, M ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
In this paper, we propose a new method to recover band-limited signals corrupted by impulsive noise. The proposed method successively uses adaptive thresholding and soft decisioning to find the locations and amplitudes of the impulses. In our proposed method, after estimating the positions and amplitudes of the additive impulsive noise, an adaptive algorithm, followed by soft decision, is employed to detect and attenuate the impulses. In the next step, by using an iterative method, an approximation of the signal is obtained. This signal approximation is successively used to improve the noise estimate. The algorithm is analyzed and verified by computer simulations. Simulation results confirm...

    Abstract
In this paper we propose a new method to recover bandlimited signals corrupted by impulsive noise. The proposed method uses CFAR adaptive thresholding and soft decision making to detect the locations of the impulsive noise. Then an iterative method cancels noise and reconstructs the signal. This estimate in turn will be used to make the approximation of the impulsive noise more accurate. Simulation results confirm the robustness of the proposed algorithm even when impulsive noise exceeds the theoretical reconstruction capacity. ©2008 IEEE

Optimum receiver design for transmitted-reference signaling [electronic resource]

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Communications ; May 2010, Volume 58, Issue 5, P.1589-1598 Farhang, M. (Mahmoud) ; Salehi, J. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Autocorrelation receiver (AcR) is usually used as the general receiver for transmitted reference (TR) communication systems on a quite intuitive basis. In this paper, we apply the principle of statistical invariance to obtain the optimum TR receiver on a decision-theoretic basis, and it is shown that the autocorrelation receiver is optimal only in a special case. Performance of the optimum receiver and the suboptimum AcR for some important modulation schemes is also evaluated. The results imply that allocating a part of the transmitted energy and bandwidth to reference pulses would not help improve the performance of the system and the optimal performance might be achieved via much simpler...

    Abstract
In this research ,lean and agile indexes in S.G.S Co. are evaluated. This company is the first company in engineering and supplying automotive parts as well as the first supply chain management and organization of Saipa Group. In the part of evaluating the lean management level it is the developed model of the suggested approach by Jackson “implementing a lean management system” (Jackson, 1996). As S.G.S is engaged in servicing activities not in production, we have changed some factors in Jackson's methodology. Different with the last model, we got the results and used AHP method for getting the level in each key. Finally by using another AHP the lean index of the S.G.S Co. was identified....

    Abstract
ISO 10303 Standard also known as STEP, is an standard in the domain of mechanical manufacturing that describes data relating to drawings, design, machining, process planning, engineering and other aspects of product which all together can describe the entire life cycle of products. However, as this standard is newly born and developing these data models are expensive and time consuming, so far, no data model for description of cutting tools is developed. In this project we study the STEP parts and protocols to understand how data is stored. We study EXPRESS Modeling language, the language developed as part of the STEP standard which is the official language of data modeling in STEP. And use...

    Abstract
Decision making is one of the most critical issues in engineering field. The Axiomatic Design is recently known as one of the most robust tools for decision making task. Axiomatic design is a engineering theory that provides a systematic framework for decision making using two axioms. These two axioms called Independence and Information axioms are both used to do the task.In this thesis, the information axiom is used to select the best machine (operation) for manufacturing cylindrical parts. To do that, three criteria including surface roughness, dimensional accuracy and cost have been chosen. Finally a comparison to the result of this methodology and the result of Analytical Hierarchy...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Esmaili, Sakine (Author) ; Hesaaraki, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This thesis is based on articles [18,15]. Zhao [18] has studied a free boundary problem modeling the growth of tumors with drug application. In this model live cells are two kindes: proliferative cells and quiescent cells. This model consists of two nonlinear second-order parabolic equations describing the diffusion of nutrient and drug concentration, and three nonlinear first-order hyperbolic equations describing the evolution of proliferative cells, quiescent cells and dead cells. He has proved that this free boundary problem has a unique global solution. Tao and Chen [15] have studied another free boundary problem modelling the growth of an avascular tumour with drug application. The...

Integration of Design and Manufacturing Systems Using Neutral Data Structure

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Mokhtar, Alireza (Author) ; Hooshmand, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In competitive environment of quick market changes, developing an interoperable manufacturing system is a necessity. Process planning as a connection link between design and manufacturing, has never been able to integrate these up/down stream activities and in spite of employing computer systems, CAPP’s information has been managed in an isolated manner. To realize interoperability, the exchange of part and product data must be independent of their platforms. There are two basic approaches for this purpose: i) Utilizing interface and ii) Utilizing neutral formats. STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product data) plays a significant role as a neutral data model to integrate design,...
