Unpacking Entrepreneurial Alertness: How Character Matters for Opportunity Recognition

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Pirhadi, Homa (Author) ; Feyzbakhsh, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Soleimanof, Sohrab (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Over centuries and across cultures, scholars have consistently highlighted the role of character for achieving personal and societal good. Yet we know little about how character matters for entrepreneurship. This study builds upon the theory of character strengths to extend our knowledge about personal antecedents of entrepreneurial thinking. Specifically, we examine how character strengths of valor, industriousness, and critical thinking can affect different dimensions of entrepreneurial alertness: scanning and search, association and connection, and evaluation and judgment. We use sample of 412 students to test the study’s hypotheses. The results shed light on how strengths of character...

    Abstract
Entrepreneurship is a process that requires high motivation for success. Self-efficacy is to believe the person's ability to organize and carry out certain types of activities to produce specific outcomes. Thus helping to increase self-efficacy beliefs in people who have attempted to entrepreneurship can increase their chances of success. On the other hand Self-leadership has been defined as “the process” of influencing oneself to establish the self-direction and self-motivation needed to perform. And include three major strategies named Behavioral focused strategies, Intrinsic motivation (Natural Reward) strategies, Constructive thought pattern strategies and some specific behaviors in each...

New encoding methods for SAT-based temporal planning

    , Article ICAPS 2013 - Proceedings of the 23rd International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling ; June , 2013 , Pages 73-81 ; 9781577356097 (ISBN) Rankooh, M. F ; Ghassem Sani, G ; Feyzbakhsh Rankooh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Although satisfiability checking is known to be an effective approach in classical planning, it has scarcely been investigated in the field of temporal planning. Most notably, the usage of ∃-step semantics for encoding the problem into a SAT formula, while being demonstrably quite efficient for decreasing the size of the encodings in classical planning, has not yet been employed to tackle temporal planning problems. In this paper, we define temporal versions of classical ∀-step and ∃-step plans. We show that when the casual and temporal reasoning phases of a SAT-based temporal planner are separated, these semantics can be used to translate a given temporal planning problem into a SAT...

Improving Representation and Search in Concurrent Temporal Planning

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Feyzbakhsh Rankouh, Masoud (Author) ; Ghassem Sani, Gholamreza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Temporal planning is one of the branches of AI planning, which has attracted a considerable amount of attention in recent years due to the importance of temporal properties in real world planning problems. Like in many other AI fields, there exists an important trade-off in temporal planning between the variety of solvable problems and the efficiency of the planner. Most of the previously proposed temporal planners use heuristic state-space search method. This method, despite being quite efficient, is not complete for so-called “problems with required concurrency”. On the other hand, plan-space based and satisfiability based temporal planners, which can tackle problems with required...

Developing a model based on sustainable development for Prioritizing entrepreneurial challenges under a competitive environment

    , Article Journal of Competitiveness ; Volume 13, Issue 3 , 2021 , Pages 73-91 ; 1804171X (ISSN) Khalilsanjani, A ; Saparauskas, J ; Yazdani Chamzini, A ; Turskis, Z ; Feyzbakhsh, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In the post-recession period, the business environment in developing countries is still relatively undesirable. Based on the reports published, the number of closed entrepreneurs are significantly more than the number of those newly established. These statistics also reflect that the development of entrepreneurship faces several challenges. However, a strategic management program must be accurately conducted to effectively control entrepreneurial challenges based on the limitation of time and financial resources. On the other hand, the program should provide an appropriate opportunity for competitiveness by producing better quality goods and services successfully marketed to consumers. The...

Rcci Curvature for Metric-Measure Space via Optimal Transport

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taheri, Abolfazl (Author) ; Bahraini, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Ranjbar Motlagh, Alireza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
One of the important questions in mathematics is generalized. In case of metric spaces, one of the questions is: Can we extend notions of Riemannian geometry to arbitrary metric spaces smoothly? Ricci curvature is one of the most important concepts in differential geometry. Ricci curvature is defined for the Riemannian manifold and has many applications in mathematics and physics like Einstein’s equation in relativity theory. There is a good notion for a metric space having “sectional curvature bounded below by K” or “sectional curvature bounded above by K”, due to Alexandrov. Can we define the concept of Ricci curvature in metric space? A motivation for this question comes from Gromov’s...

    Abstract
Seismic design codes reduce loads by using response modification factor. Because of the reserved strength in structural elements and capacity of structure to dissipate energy, structures can be designed for lower seismic loads. This factor has modified over time. In this thesis, the effect of the reduction in behavior factor on the response of two kinds of reinforced concrete systems were evaluated. Moment resisting frames and dual systems with different heights and regularity in plan, heve been design according to the behavior factor which is recommended in the 3rd edition of the Iranian codes of practice for seismic resistance design of buildings (Standard No. 2800). Drift and...

The aim of the current research is to demonstrate that a Meta-heuristic algorithmis capable of solving complex inventory problems and with future improvements it is able to achieve...

The Ricci Flow with Applications to the Poincare and Calabi Conjectures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Safdari, Mohammad (Author) ; Bahreini, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Poincare conjecture is one of the rst eorts for classifying 3-manifolds that was stated in the begining of 20th century. Eorts for proving this conjecture continued for about 100 years and nally Perelman has solved it in 2003. He has used Ricci ow which has been invented by Richard Hamilton in the early 80's. In this thesis rst we will introduce Ricci ow and will state the results before Perelman such as short time and long time existence of solution. Then we will mention some applications of Ricci ow and will state an explanation of the proof of uniformization and Calabi conjecture by Ricci ow. After that we start the main part of the thesis. In this part we will montion one of the...

Identification and Abnormal Condition Detection of a Cement Rotary Kiln

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeghian, Masoud (Author) ; Fatehi, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most important parts of a cement factory is the cement rotary kiln which plays a key role in quality and quantity of produced cement. In this part, the physical exertion and bilateral movement of air and materials, together with chemical reactions take place. Thus, this system has immensely complex and nonlinear dynamic equations. These equations have not worked out yet. Only in exceptional case; however, a large number of the involved parameters were crossed out and an approximation model was presented instead. This issue caused many problems for designing a cement rotary kiln controller. In this thesis, we employed a nonlinear system identification method for identification,...

Entanglement and Decoherence in Optomechanical Systems Coupled through Photothermal Effects

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Abdi, Mehdi (Author) ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Optomechanical systems have attracted considerable attention in the last decade. Such a raising prominence is mainly due to its capability in providing new insight into the quantum behavior of macroscopic objects and exploring the interface between quantum and classical mechanics. Alongside this fundamental quest, cavity optomechanics has many other benefits, ranging from very precise measurements on forces and positions to quantum information processing. In this thesis, we investigate quantum properties of such systems. Particularly, we study cooling of the mechanical resonator toward its ground state and the entanglement between this mechanical resonator and the cavity field. Cooling the...
