    In this study, the effect of hydrophobicity of environmentally responsive surface-modified silica nanoparticles on the stability and surface activity of the nanoparticles is examined. To this end, n-propyl, n-hexyl, or n-octyl chains and methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) chains at various quantities were coated covalently on the surface of silica nanoparticles to regulate the hydrophobicity of the responsive nanoparticles. Various experimental tools such as stability analysis, interfacial-tension and contact-angle measurements, and emulsion formation were performed to investigate the effect of hydrophobicity.     Problems related to the three-dimensional (3D) dynamics of the deploying flexible arms subjected to base angular motions are studied with simulated tip payloads and actual deployment trajectories. To facilitate the solution, an equivalent dynamical system is developed by introducing the inertial reaction forces on the arm, while the equations of motion are derived in the non-Newtonian reference frame attached to the arm. The dynamic behavior of the arm is investigated both by the finite element and assumed Modes methods for the purpose of verification.     The loads induced on the spacecraft orbiting the Earth by the deploying elastic arm are investigated. The coupled equations of motion of the arm with the vehicle orbital mechanics are used to describe the 3D dynamic behavior of the flexible-appendage and the related disturbing loads induced on the spacecraft. To this end, an equivalent dynamical system is derived for the arm by applying an attached Non-Newtonian Reference Frame which is subjected to the orbital motion and geocentric pointing maneuver of the spacecraft.     Deployment inertial effects of a spacecraft appendage on its flexible dynamics are investigated. The Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the actual deployment profile, in which appendage axial motion accelerates from static state and then decelerates to end at zero velocity and acceleration, are employed.     The dynamics of the flexible robot arm subjected to tip mass during an actual deployment is studied. The Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the real deployment are considered in the simulation. A new real axial velocity profile is developed.     Correlation-intractability is a random-oracle-like property of hash functions, so one can expect that constructions that are secure in random-oracle-model, remain secure when implemented using a correlation-intractable hash function. This is true about Fiat-Shamir transform which is a method for eliminating interaction from public-coin interactive proofs.     The effects of addition of an ionic liquid to pure water as a physical absorbent and monoethanolamine (MEA) solutions as a chemical absorbent on carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption through hollow fiber membrane contactors were investigated using a 2D axisymmetric model. A numerical simulation was developed based on finite element method using computational fluid dynamics techniques. Liquid phase flowed in the tube side and gas mixture containing CO2 passed in the shell side of the membrane contactor in co-current and countercurrent modes.     Approximate solutions for vibrations of flexible beam-type appendages subjected to tip mass are studied while uniform and exponential profiles for arm deployment are simulated.     Aluminum Bronzes have many applications in marine environments. These alloys suffer from both hot cracking and cold cracking. In order to overcome the hot cracking and cold cracking, Semisolid Stir Joining method and a proper thermal cycle was used respectively. Effects of temperature, stirring rate, and tool type were investigated in Semisolid Stir joining method.     In this paper we introduce some general necessary conditions for the existence of graph homomorphisms, which hold in both directed and undirected cases. Our method is a combination of Diaconis and Saloff–Coste comparison technique for Markov chains and a generalization of Haemers interlacing theorem. As some applications, we obtain a necessary condition for the spanning subgraph problem, which also provides a generalization of a theorem of Mohar (1992) as a necessary condition for Hamiltonicity.     In this paper we introduce a chromatic parameter, called the fixing chromatic number, which is related to unique colourability of graphs, in the sense that it measures how one can embed the given graph G in G∪Kt by adding edges between G and Kt to make the whole graph uniquely t-colourable. We study some basic properties of this parameter as well as its relationships to some other well-known chromatic numbers as the acyclic chromatic number.     In this paper, we apply some new algebraic no-homomorphism theorems in conjunction with some new chromatic parameters to estimate the circular chromatic number of graphs. To show the applicability of the general results, as a couple of examples, we generalize a well known inequality for the fractional chromatic number of graphs and we also show that the circular chromatic number of the graph obtained from the Petersen graph by excluding one vertex is equal to 3.
