CoSALEN as a new catalyst for oxidation of fullerene C60
, Article Journal of Coordination Chemistry ; Volume 62, Issue 20 , 2009 , Pages 3384-3390 ; 00958972 (ISSN) ; Tangeysh, B ; Sharif University of Technology
2009
Abstract
The effect of CoSALEN on anti-oxidative properties of fullerene C60 in the presence of O2 in cumene was investigated. A comparison was made between the role of the CoSALEN as a catalyst in the C60 oxidation and oxidation in the presence of an initiator, i.e., AIBN. A mechanism is proposed for the catalytic role of CoSALEN in oxidation of C60. Oxidation of octadecylaminofullerene C60 at the same conditions reveals that oxidation could be a result of hydroperoxidation of the unreacted sites of C60. We conclude that C60 as well as its aminoderivatives enhance the efficiency of CoSALEN in the oxidation of cumene due to their radical scavenging property of their unreacted double-bond sites. ©...

Abstract
Sleep Spindle is the hallmark of the second stage of sleep in EEG signal. It had been analyzed using different methods, including Fourier transform, parametric and non-parametric models, higher order statistics and spectra, and also time-frequency methods such as wavelet transform, and matching pursuit. In this study, bump modeling has been used to analyze sleep spindle. Bump modeling is a method which represents the time-frequency map of signals with a number of elementary functions. Results of this work demonstrate that bump modeling is capable of analyzing different sleep spindle patterns in sleep EEG signals successfully

Eigen-gap of structure transition matrix: A new criterion for Image Quality Assessment
, Article IEEE Signal Processing and Signal Processing Education Workshop, SP/SPE 2015, 9 August 2015 through 12 August 2015 ; 2015 , Pages 370-375 ; 9781467391696 (ISBN) ; Rahmani, M ; Golestani, H. B ; Ghanbari, M ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
A new approach to Image Quality Assessment (IQA) is presented. The idea is based on the fact that two images are similar if their structural relationship within their blocks is preserved. To this end, a transition matrix is defined which exploits structural transitions between corresponding blocks of two images. The matrix contains valuable information about differences of two images, which should be transformed to a quality index. Eigen-value analysis over the transition matrix leads to a new distance measure called Eigen-gap. According to simulation results, the Eigen-gap is not only highly correlated to subjective scores but also, its performance is as good as the SSIM, a trustworthy...

Abstract
Feature vector extraction, based on local image texture, is a primitive algorithm for many other applications, like segmentation, clustering and identification. If these feature vectors are a good match to the human visual system (HVS), we can expect to get the appropriate results by using them. Gabor filters has been used for this purpose successfully. In this paper we introduce a novel refinement, with the use of Matching Pursuit (MP) to improve the Gabor based texture feature extractor. With this improvement, we show that the separability of different textures will increase. Another consideration in this work is computation complexity. Therefore, we limit the basis function set to reduce...

Abstract
Abstract In this work, two [60] fullerene derivatives were employed as flow improvers for waxy crude oil to reduce problems caused by the crystallization of paraffin during the production and/or transportation of the crude oil. These amine-based derivatives of [60] fullerene have been applied as wax inhibitor for improvement of rheological performance as well as pour point depressant in a waxy crude oil. Moreover, the influence of these [60] fullerene derivatives on the viscosity and pour point was also investigated in an Iranian waxy crude oil sample. The [60] fullerene derivatives were simply prepared by stirring a solution of [60] fullerene and two lipophilic amines. The results similarly...

Abstract
We investigate various types of fuzzy linear programming problems based on models and solution methods. First, we review fuzzy linear programming problems with fuzzy decision variables and fuzzy linear programming problems with fuzzy parameters (fuzzy numbers in the definition of the objective function or constraints) along with the associated duality results. Then, we review the fully fuzzy linear programming problems with all variables and parameters being allowed to be fuzzy. Most methods used for solving such problems are based on ranking functions, α-cuts, using duality results or penalty functions. In these methods, authors deal with crisp formulations of the fuzzy problems. Recently,...

Abstract
Two new heteronuclear Nickel(II)/Sodium(I) complexes of a side-off compartmental Schiff base ligand were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic methods. Crystal structures of both of the complexes were also obtained. The Schiff base ligand was synthesized from the condensation of meso-1,2-diphenyl-1,2-ethylenediamine with 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde. In both of the complexes the Ni(II) ion is coordinated to the inner N2O2 coordination sphere with square-planar geometry and the Na(I) ion is coordinated to the outer O2O2′ coordination sphere. In Complex (1) with general formula [Ni(L)Na(CH3OH)(ClO4)] the sodium ion is seven coordinated while in (2) with general formula...
Synthesis of Azacrown Ethers N2O2 Ligands Substituted on the Ullerene and Investigation of Its Coordination Properties
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghanbari, Bahram (Supervisor)
Abstract
The goal of this project was study on coordination behavior of the 14-membered macrocyclic ligand of type N2O2 aza-crown while it is attached to fullerene C60 nano-particle. For this purpose, firstly the macrocyclic ligand (Fig 3-1, L1) was synthesized and then was reacted with C60 (Fig 3-1, L2) of which the product was characterized by elemental analysis. Since the product was insoluble in any solvents, further study on its coordination chemistry was impossible. In a second procedure, the macrocyclic ligand was reacted with benzylbromide. The reaction mixture gave two macrocyclic ligands with different number of benzylic pendant groups (Fig 3-1, L3-L4). The products were separated by column...
Incremental Learning Approach in Spam Detection
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Beygi, Hamid (Supervisor)
Abstract
Studies show that a large proportion of sent emails are spam. Spam is one of the major problems of e-mail users that result in wasting time and cost. To overcome this problem different ways are used, one of the best ways is detecting spam based on their contents. Separating legitimate e-mails and spam within their contents can be categorized as text classification. So machine-learning approaches are extremely applied in text classification, that machine-learning algorithms can be used for spam classification. However, in the majority of these algorithms, training phase is in a batch. Whereas using incremental learning algorithms is preferred in many applications, especially spam detections....
Using of Exhaust Gas from Gas Turbine for Conservation of Energy Consumption
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Nouri, Ali (Supervisor)
Abstract
Nowadays, the use of gas turbines with low capacity have acceptance in large quantity. This type of gas turbines with a capacity of approximately 5-200kW are known as microturbines. This type of turbines due to the existence of limitations on increasing of turbine inlet temperature and compressor pressure ratio has low efficiency compared to the turbine with high capacity. Therefore the use of a recuperator in the cycle is necessary. Optimum design of heat recuperator has important effect on improving of gas turbine cycle efficiency. In this project for optimum design of heat recuperator, the effect of recuperator on gas turbine cycle efficiency is studied. By determining geometric...

Synthesis and Electrochemical Study of Endohedral Fullerenes Prepared by Arc Vaporizing Method
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghanbari, Bahram (Supervisor)
Abstract
Fullerenes are molecular solid materials which are composed of 3D closed shell carbon-only structure. As soon as mass production of fullerenes was performed, the synthesis and characterization of endohedral fullerenes having at least one non-carbon element in the hollow fullerene cage, was started (in which about 30 atoms inserted in it so far). Furthermore, because of low efficiency and purity of these nano-particles, nowadays characterization of fullerenes is one of the most important research fields. In this project, we firstly optimized the fullerene production parameters in an arc discharge reactor to reach convenient efficiency. Then, the synthesis of endohedral fullerene by vaporizing...
Improving Video Streaming over Peer-to-Peer Overlay Networks
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Ghanbari, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Overlay Peer-to-Peer networks opposed to their high scalability and more robustness against network errors, are more considerable rather than other content distribution approaches such as Client/Server and multicast video streaming. At this thesis we investigate the video streaming over these networks, which includes more than half of internet traffic nowadays.Localized video streaming is one of the techniques for improving quality of service (QoS) over peer-to-peer networks. With localization techniques, video chunks distribute among neighbors that have more proximity with each other and traffic is held localized over the network. We proposed a new metric for estimating network proximity of...
