Joint SourceChannel Coding in Video Transmission Using Deep Learning
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Behroozi, Hamid (Supervisor) ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
Abstract
In the signal transmission cycle in a telecommunication network, there are two coding blocks, which can be realized in two ways. In the traditional way, source coding is first used to remove redundancies and compress information. Then, channel coding is used to transmit on the telecommunication channel and deal with noise and other destructive factors of the channel. In other words, source coding and channel coding are done separately. In contrast, signal transmission can be done by joint source¬channel coding. According to Shannon separation theorem and with the fulfillment of the conditions mentioned in the theorem, the method of separation of source and channel coding in a point to point...

Abstract
Despite a substantial potential of renewable energy sources, the current energy supply system in Iran relies almost entirely on fossil fuel resources. It has imposed significant financial burden on the country and has led to considerable GHG emissions. Moreover, the country is confronting several challenges for harnessing alternative clean energy sources and promoting rational energy policies over the recent decades. To probe the root cause of these problems, this paper first provides an overview on the previous energy planning attempts in Iran. It shows that adequate commitment to a long-term energy planning could have meaningfully prevented these serious challenges. However, the previous...

Abstract
The sol-gel process as a chemical route is widely used in the fields of materials science and engineering. Historically, the sol-gel techniques have been developed during the past 40 years as an alternative process for glasses and ceramics production [1]. It is reported that the sol-gel process had been introduced by Ebelman [2], who had prepared a transparent SiO2 thin film from slow hydrolysis of an ester of silicic acid in 1845. In comparison with other techniques such as CVD or sintering, the sol-gel technique is a very simple process with considerable advantages. This process is low cost, has high controllability and potential application for preparation of different materials and...

, Article International Journal of Nanotechnology ; Volume 6, Issue 10-11 , 2009 , Pages 961-972 ; 14757435 (ISSN) ; Askari, M ; Sasani Ghamsari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
2009
Abstract
TiO2nanocrystals were prepared by hydrolysis and peptisation of titanium isopropoxide under different pH values. The as-prepared powder of very fine anatase crystallites ranges from 8 nm in acidic solution of pH 3 to 10 nm in basic solution of pH 8. Heat treatment of the powders leads to grain growth and anatase - rutile transformation. Experimental results have shown that the anatase to rutile phase transformation in the heat-treated powders depend not only on primary crystallite size but also the presence of brookite phase. It is observed that in the powders with the same size the presence brookite phase would accelerate the anatase to rutile transformation. Furthermore it has been found...

Abstract
The deployment of flexible ac transmission system (FACTS) devices, despite miscellaneous benefits and applications, has been restricted mainly due to their large investment costs. Accordingly, the notion of distributed FACTS (D-FACTS) was recently proposed. Distributed static series compensators (DSSCs), as a new member of D-FACTS, are directly clamped to conductors of transmission lines. The possibility of controlling the compensation rate of DSSCs from the control center affords the active control of network power flow. This paper presents a comprehensive reliability model for the DSSC. The model is then reduced and a state-space representation is extracted for a transmission line with a...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Moeini Aghtaie, Moein (Supervisor)
Abstract
With the growing population and the development of human societies, the demand for energy increases. And it is expected that for the next few decades, fossil fuels will continue to be recognized as the main sources of energy supply and used to meet energy demand. One of the biggest disadvantages of fossil fuel consumption is the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, which raises the Earth's temperature and has devastating effects on the climate and the lives of its inhabitants. On the other hand, fossil fuels are recognized as non-renewable sources and their lifespan is only for the next few decades. Today, one of the major concerns of societies, especially in developed...
