Molybdenum(VI) Complexes and Palladium Nanoparticles in Ionic Liquid-Liquid Biphasic and Supported Ionic Liquid phase (SILP) Catalysis, and Green Catalytic Processes using Polymeric Ionic Liquids (PILs

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Ghazali-Esfahani, Saeideh (Author) ; Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, ionic liquids and polymeric ionic liquids were investigated as solvent and support for immobilization of molybdenum and palladium catalysts. Three newly synthesized room temperature ionic liquids containing molybdate anion, [DMIm][MoO2(NCS)4], [RPy][MoO2(NCS)4] (R = butyl or decyl), and previously reported [BMIm][MoO2(NCS)4] were used as catalysts for the reduction of sulfoxides. For facilitating the recyclability of the catalysts, the ionic liquid solvents, [RMIm][PF6] and [RPy][PF6] (RMIm=1-n-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium, RPy= 1-n-alkylpyridinium), were applied to immobilize molybdenum catalysts. These catalysts showed high catalytic activity for sulfoxide reduction in this...

    Abstract
Palladium nanoparticles immobilized on a cross-linked imidazolium-containing polymer were evaluated as a catalyst for Suzuki carbon-carbon cross-coupling reactions using water as the solvent. The nanocatalysts show good catalytic activities for aryl iodides and aryl bromides and moderate activity with aryl chloride substrates. Coupling of sterically hindered substrates could also be achieved in reasonable yields. The heterogeneous catalyst is stable, can be stored without precautions to exclude air or moisture, and can be easily recycled and reused

    Abstract
A series of cross-linked ionic polymers based on styrene-functionalized imidazolium salts with chloride, hexafluorophosphate, or tetrafluoroborate counter anions have been prepared and characterized using a range of analytical and spectroscopic techniques and electron microscopy. The polymer with the chloride anion is an efficient catalyst for the cycloaddition of carbon dioxide with epoxides to afford cyclic carbonates. The cross-linked polymer is insoluble in organic solvents and is highly stable and therefore can be easily recycled and reused

Path-following in model predictive rollover prevention using front steering and braking

    , Article Vehicle System Dynamics ; Volume 55, Issue 1 , 2017 , Pages 121-148 ; 00423114 (ISSN) Ghazali, M ; Durali, M ; Salarieh, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
In this paper vehicle path-following in the presence of rollover risk is investigated. Vehicles with high centre of mass are prone to roll instability. Untripped rollover risk is increased in high centre of gravity vehicles and high-friction road condition. Researches introduce strategies to handle the short-duration rollover condition. In these researches, however, trajectory tracking is affected and not thoroughly investigated. This paper puts stress on tracking error from rollover prevention. A lower level model predictive front steering controller is adopted to deal with rollover and tracking error as a priority sequence. A brake control is included in lower level controller which...

Vehicle trajectory challenge in predictive active steering rollover prevention

    , Article International Journal of Automotive Technology ; Volume 18, Issue 3 , 2017 , Pages 511-521 ; 12299138 (ISSN) Ghazali, M ; Durali, M ; Salarieh, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
High center of mass vehicles are likely to rollover in extreme maneuvers. Available works present control strategies to prevent rollover. In these works, however, other important parameters such as path trajectory tracking are not a main concern. In this paper conflicts between rollover prevention and trajectory tracking is investigated. Model predictive control (MPC) is adopted to predict and avoid rollover while tracking desired trajectory. For this regard a model based future error estimation is introduced. The control framework predicts both rollover and trajectory error simultaneously. It avoids rollover while tries to track the trajectory. Simulation results for two controllers with...

On endurance of erasure codes in SSD-based storage systems

    Abstract
The wear-out of flash-based Solid-State Drives (SSDs) is a main concern that significantly affects their reliability. One major parameter that accelerates SSD wear-out is the number of write-cycles committed to flash chips. The number of write-cycles in SSD-based disk subsystem is highly dependent on the erasure code implemented in Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAIDs). In this paper, we investigate the impact of erasure codes and the configuration of storage subsystems (i.e., the number of disks participated in the RAID array and stripe unit size) on the endurance of storage systems. The number of write-cycles is considered as a metric to evaluate the endurance of storage system. We...

Path-following in Predictive Rollover Prevention in High CG Vehicles

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Ghazali, Mohammad (Author) ; Durali, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Salarieh, Hassan (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis vehicle path-following in the presence of rollover risk is investigated. Vehicles with high center of mass are prone to roll instability. Untripped rollover risk is increased in high center of gravity vehicles and high-friction road condition. Some researches introduce strategies to handle the short-duration rollover condition. These strategies, however, yield to trajectory tracking error in semi-static maneuvers. Tracking error may also cause tripped rollover. In some other works rollover is prevented by velocity reduction. Rollover is again probable before sufficient reduction of velocity. This thesis puts stress on tracking error from rollover prevention. A lower level...

    Abstract
Job scheduling in MapReduce plays a vital role in Hadoop performance. In recent years, many researchers have presented job scheduler algorithms to improve Hadoop performance. Designing a job scheduler that minimizes job execution time with maximum resource utilization is not a straightforward task. The primary purpose of this paper is to investigate agents affecting job scheduler efficiency and present a novel classification for job schedulers based on these factors. We provide a comprehensive overview of existing job schedulers in each group, evaluating their approaches, their effects on Hadoop performance, and comparing their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, we provide...

    Abstract
Objective(s): Multiple sclerosis (MS) is considered as a chronic type of an inflammatory disease characterized by loss of myelin of CNS. Recent evidence indicates that Interleukin 17 (IL-17)-producing T helper cells (Th17 cells) population are increased and regulatory T cells (Treg cells) are decreased in MS. Despite extensive research in understanding the mechanism of Th17 and Treg differentiation, the role of microRNAs in MS is not completely understood. Thereby, as a step closer, we analyzed the expression profile of miR-9-5p and miR-106a-5p, and protein level of retinoic acid receptor (RAR)-related orphan receptor C (RORC; Th17 master transcription factor) as direct target of miR-106a-5p...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Esfahani, Saeed (Author) ; Khodaygan, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Fatigue life prediction of a mechanical part is one of issues which a group of engineers are engaged with it and always they try to design the parts with the maximum of lifetime. Although many researches have been done in this field but yet we can see that predicted life are different from that happens in the reality because there are some uncertainties in the phenomena. Our effort in this project is creating an algorithm design so that the parts are designed by it, have the maximum fatigue life and the minimum uncertainty in prediction. In this project we have considered geometrical, material and random loading uncertainties as error resources. Older methods those are presented in this...

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 17, Issue 2 C , 2010 , Pages 131-138 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Bagherzadeh, M ; Ghazali Esfahani, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Some cis-dioxomolybdenum (VI) complexes with tridentate Schiff base ligands derived from salicylaldehyde and aminophenols, aminoalcohol or o-aminobenzenethiol were examined as catalysts for epoxidation of different aliphatic and aromatic olefins, with tert-butyl hydroperoxide as oxidant. All complexes exhibited high activity and selectivity for epoxidation of aliphatic substrates during a short time period (95% conversion of cyclooctene after 30 min). The epoxide yield increased with the nucleophilic character of olefin. The catalysts activation strongly depends on the reaction temperature and nature of the solvent. Epoxidation of olefins by these catalysts is inhibited by ligands or...

The Particle-Field Theory On The Possibility of New Formulation of Micro-phenomena

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sadeghi Esfahani, Hossein (Author) ; Shafiee, Afshin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis we are going to explore a new formalism in micro domain which describes quantum phenomena in a realistic casual fashion by introducing an unified concept of matter, energy, and Information. In this theory, a micro-entity, e.g. an electron, is a combination of a particle and its associated field integrated to a new entity called particle-field. The dynamics of such system will be analyzed. Then, some quantum examples which have controversial aspects will be discussed within the new theory. In a generalized form of formalism, the non-linear Schrödinger Equation is introduced, which enables us to predict some experimental data for common Quantum Mechanical stationary systems....

A Counting Formula for the Kervaire Semi-Characteristic

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ismayli, Behnam (Author) ; Esfahani Zadeh, Mustafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Similar to the classical Poincare-Hopf index formula for the Euler characteristic, Zhang gave a counting formula for the Kervaire semi-characteristic of a 4q+1 manifold. We first study Witten deformation techniques in the proof of the Poincare-Hopf formula. Then we will represent Zhang’s formula which uses similar analysis. Both these formulas establish a connection between topological and geometrical data on a manifold. Both proofs will be analytical. Index theory will play the ’bridge’ between the topology and analysis. We begin with an analytic interpretation of the topologically defined quantities as indices of differential operators. We deform the operators with respect to appropriate...
