    Enhanced hardness and corrosion resistance of Zn/SiO2 films by electrodeposition

    Abstract
    The electrodeposition of Zn-SiO2 nanocomposites has been investigated with different electrolytes: triethanolamine as a dispersing agent, and cetyl trimethylammonium bromide and dodecyl dimethylamine oxide as ionic (cationic) and non-ionic surfactants. Appropriate electrophoretic potentials for each solution were obtained using cyclic voltammetry. The results show that the most stable SiO2 nanoparticles with zeta potential range of 25 to 41 mV, along with highest SiO2 mobility of 0.4 to 0.7 m2/V.s were dispersed by triethanolamine in ethanol and the resulting coating adhesion improved up to 5.87 MPa in the standard pull off test, with the enhanced hardness of... 

    A novel double slip loads friction damper to control the seismic response of structures

    In this study, the performance of a proposed friction damper with two slip loads in controlling the seismic response of steel moment resisting buildings structures under moderate and intense earthquake excitations is investigated. The proposed friction damper initially operates with a smaller slip load and could shift to the higher slip load after a certain amount of slippage when subjected to intense ground motions.     Abstract
    The spin and orbital angular momentum of photons can perturb during propagation in few mode optical fiber, and hence, in the receiver, perturbations must be adjusted. For polarization adjustment, polarization controllers have been developed previously. In this paper, we show that in the presence of external effects such as tension and tortion, the entanglement between the different degrees of freedom of a photon does not change. A device for simultaneous adjustment of polarization and spatial distribution in few mode fiber is proposed.     Resonating valence bond (RVB) states are suitable candidates for ground state of the Heisenberg model on various two dimensional lattices. When a singlet valence bond is broken to produce a triplet state, the resulting excitation is called a triplon. In this paper, we obtain formulas for the overlap and also matrix elements of si sjoperator between states with arbitrary number of triplons. Our results are valid for any 2D lattice

    Abstract
    Multi-walled carbon nanotube decorated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs-MWCNT) is used as an effective strategy for modification of the surface of pyrolytic graphite electrode (PGE). This modification procedure improved colloidal dispersion of the decorated MWCNTs in water, affording uniform and stable thin films for altering the surface properties of the working electrode. Robust electrode for sensing applications is obtained in a simple solvent evaporation process. The electrochemical behavior of sumatriptan (Sum) at the bare PGE and AgNPs-MWCNT modified PGE is investigated.     The conventional solar cell architectures include a p-n junction of c-Si sandwiched by rear and front contacts. The conventional approach features a complex as well as expensive procedure. Here, we propose a new architecture for p-n heterojunction solar cells prepared by a simple and cost-effective procedure. In this regard, (1) a silicon wafer underwent surface treatment through electrochemical anodization.     Abstract
    This paper presents nonlinear signal and noise analysis of a wide gate FET mixer. The study is performed using nonlinear sliced modeling. The FET is taken into account as a distributed element and divided into several smaller pieces so that in each slice a lumped model can be applied. Calculation of passive and active elements of each slice is performed using proper scaling approach. For noise analysis, appropriate noise sources are added to the distributed circuit The wide gate FETs have been suggested for high power, wideband and high gain devices such as travelling wave amplifier.     Abstract
    The influence of the loading of the FET electrodes, on signal and noise performances of the device in mixer application is studied. It is shown that exciting the input signal from one end of the gate and extracting the output signal from the opposite ends of the gate can improve the device characteristics, provided that the two remaining ends of the gate and the drain are properly loaded. This structure makes the lines (i.e. the gate and the drain electrodes) to be matched with the loads. Therefore it leads to a travelling wave FET mixer, which is a good candidate for high power mm-wave application. © 2000 IEEE

    Abstract
    Among the many attacks against watermarked data, the gain attack is less supported with countermeasures. The effectiveness of this attack becomes more evident in quantization-based embedding algorithms such as Dither Modulation (DM). In this paper, the general solution for both block and sample type DM schemes that are robust against gain attacks is considered. Among the solutions, we concentrate on a subclass of the algorithms which are insensitive to additive noise attacks; i.e., we introduce watermarking schemes which are both robust against gain and additive noise attacks.     Abstract H2-rich water as a green antioxidant was applied for deoxygenation of graphene oxide (GO) suspensions. The ability of H2-rich water for deoxygenation of GO sheets was found comparable to the ability of hydrazine (as a standard and powerful reductant), using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In fact, the O/C ratio of GO sheets could be reduced from 0.51 to 0.21 and 0.16 by H2-rich water and hydrazine, respectively. More importantly, while C-N bond formation is one of the side effects of GO reduction by hydrazine, no chemical C-N bond was found on the H2-water-reduced GO (rGO) sheets.     The voltammetric performance of edge-plane pyrolytic graphite (EPG) electrode via adsorptive stripping voltammetry was investigated for study of the electrochemical behavior of omeprazole (OMZ) in aqueous solution. The results revealed that the oxidation of OMZ is an irreversible pH-dependent process that proceeds with the transfer of one electron and one proton in an adsorption-controlled mechanism. The determination conditions, such as the pH values of the supporting electrolyte, accumulation time and scan rate were optimized.     Anodic aluminium oxide films were fabricated by well known two-step anodizing process in oxalic acid electrolyte. The ordering characteristics (ordered pore domains, average pore diameter size and through-pore arrangement) of anodic aluminium oxide films, obtained in different growth sequences, were identified by microscopic analysis such as ex situ contact-mode atomic force microcopy and scanning electron microscopy.     A new heterogeneous copper catalyst was synthesized by immobilization of copper ions onto magnetic nanoparticles with a new ligand based on triazole. The catalyst was characterized using scanning and transmission electron microscopies, atomic absorption and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopies, and thermogravimetric, elemental and energy-dispersive X-ray analyses.     Two newly synthesised Schiff bases [H2A3, N,N′-ortho-phenylene(salicylaldimine-acetylacetone imine) and H2A4, N,N′-ortho-phenylene(salicylaldimine-2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldimine)] were studied as inhibitors for the corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 mol dm-3 sulphuric acid. Results of weight loss, electrochemical impedance and Tafel polarisation measurements consistently identify both compounds as good inhibitors, with efficiencies of around 95% at a concentration of 400 ppm. In this study, a combined methodology of full consistency decision-making (FUCOM) and the geographical information system (GIS) was employed to assess the vulnerability of Iran to subsidence.
