    Improved electrochemical performance of plasma electrolytic oxidation coating on titanium in simulated body fluid

    Abstract
    The effect of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) pre-treatments on corrosion behavior of titanium in simulated body fluid (SBF) is investigated. Three pre-treatments are compared, using silicate, calcium phosphate and mixed silicate and calcium phosphate (1:1) electrolytes, respectively. The resultant coatings in different compositions and morphologies were examined by high-resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy-dispersive spectrometer and x-ray diffraction.     Resonating valence bond (RVB) states are suitable candidates for ground state of the Heisenberg model on various two dimensional lattices. When a singlet valence bond is broken to produce a triplet state, the resulting excitation is called a triplon. In this paper, we obtain formulas for the overlap and also matrix elements of si sjoperator between states with arbitrary number of triplons. Our results are valid for any 2D lattice

    Abstract
    Multi-walled carbon nanotube decorated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs-MWCNT) is used as an effective strategy for modification of the surface of pyrolytic graphite electrode (PGE). This modification procedure improved colloidal dispersion of the decorated MWCNTs in water, affording uniform and stable thin films for altering the surface properties of the working electrode. Robust electrode for sensing applications is obtained in a simple solvent evaporation process. The electrochemical behavior of sumatriptan (Sum) at the bare PGE and AgNPs-MWCNT modified PGE is investigated.     Abstract
    Diffusion flame from electrospray of liquid ethanol and butanol was investigated experimentally. Stable flames were observed at two distinct modes recognized at different flow rates, applied voltages, and distances between the nozzle and counter electrode. The first mode occurred at minimum voltages in which individual larger droplets are dominantly generated. The second mode at higher voltages corresponds to multijets, which produce finer distribution of droplets. Using flame-imaging anal- ysis, flammability margins are introduced and flame lengths are measured versus nondimensional parameters for both fuels and modes of spraying.     Abstract
    Targeted drug delivery (TDD) to abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) using a controlled and efficient approach has recently been a significant challenge. In this study, by using magnetic microbubbles (MMBs) under a magnetic field, we investigated the MMBs performance in TDD to AAA based on the amount of surface density of MMBs (SDMM) adhered to the AAA lumen. The results showed that among the types of MMBs studied in the presence of the magnetic field, micromarkers are the best type of microbubble with a −50 % increase in SDMM adhered to the critical area of AAA.     Abstract
    A novel ion selective electrode is fabricated for naltrexone HCl and used in pharmaceutical analysis and drug determination in biological fluids without complicated pretreatments and extractions, using direct potentiometry. The naltrexone complex with sodium tetraphenyl borate (NaTPB) is obtained by in situ soaking PVC membrane electrode in an 1 × 10 -3 M naltrexone solution. The sensor exhibited fast, reproducible and linear sub-Nernstian response over concentration range of 1 × 10 -5 - 1 × 10 -3 M with a detection limit of 5 × 10 -6 M. The membrane sensor was successfully applied to the determination of naltrexone in capsules as well as for its determination in urine and plasma samples

In this research, a finite element model of chip formation in a 2D milling process is used to predict the occurrence of chatter vibrations, and to investigate the effects of various machining parameters on this phenomenon.     In this study a novel Pt/Ni nanostructure consisting of nano-bushes and nanocubes was fabricated onto TiO 2 nanotubes. The scanning electron microscopy images showed that a large amount of well-dispersed nano-architectures had uniformly covered all over the surface which made an electrode with high surface area.     An electro-catalysis non-enzymatic electrode is proposed based on alloyed Pt/Ni nanowire arrays (NWAs) for the detection of glucose. The Pt/Ni NWAs were prepared by pulse electrodeposition of Pt and Ni within a nano-pore polycarbonate (PC) membrane followed by a chemical etching of the membrane. The electrode structure is characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).     A nanowire arrays system consisting of an ordered configuration of Pt, Ni and Co was constructed in single-bath solution through pulse electrodeposition. This structure was evaluated as a potential amperometric non-enzymatic sensor to detect glucose in alkaline solution. We observed a strong and fast amperometric response at low applied potential of 0.4 V vs. SCE over linear ranges of 0-0.2 mM and 0.2-8 mM glucose with sensitivities of 1125 and 333 μA mM-1 cm-2, respectively.     The nonlinear characteristic of an laser diode, LD, impacts on the performance of optical wireless systems using OFDM(orthogonal frequency division multiplexing). First, the influence of the nonlinear characteristic on bit-error performance is analyzed using a high power LD (LML-808.7B-XX). Next, the paper proposes a pre-distorter to compensate the nonlinearities. Finally, the coherent optical OFDM (CO-OFDM) system is considered and the performance without linearization and after linearization is analyzed via simulations in an AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise) environment.
